Michael –
I purchased these for my sister since she really likes the author. She has enjoyed the first book quite a bit. The set arrived well packaged and without any damage. I have ordered soft covered books in the past from Amazon and have not been so lucky with the packaging, so I was pleasantly surprised at how well these arrived.
David Henry –
Great story, full of adventure, surprises, heros, romance and loss. A very good read and hard to put down. I recommend this trilogy for escape and entertainment!

Just finished this trilogy and I just have to sayโฆ this was the most enjoyment Iโve gotten out of reading in a LONG time. The characters were amazing, and I really found myself rooting for the bad guyโฆ even though I knew, it couldnโt end well for him.
Because the author was drawing from a lot of different cultures and several of the characters are mixed, I had a hard time picturing it at firstโBUTโ thereโs a tv show! Also amazing by the way. Once I had some faces and images to go with the books I was hooked.
The author is also writing the tv show, so their portrayal on screen is true to the characters but she does change some stuff! Itโs sort of like the book is her second draft and the tv series is the third draft, and I love both!
There is a second series I havenโt read yet, house of crows or something and that series is being tied into the tv show, Iโm not sure in what ways because I havenโt read those yet.
Over all, it has a similar feel and hook as the twilight series, though less teeny. Itโs not about high school students, thank goodness ๐ . But it has an interesting take on a familiar subject (magic vs vampires), fantastic characters you want to know more about and care how things work out for, and really nice romantic tension that feels spicy-without getting raunchy or over the top. Also, the plot was not too predictable but played out in a way that felt like a good pay off in the end.
Being in a book club and a writing club, I spend a lot of time picking apart writing/booksโฆ these were amazing! Itโs such a rare treat to say thatโฆ but they were really, really good. Wish I could high five this author and the whole team of people that helped her make these books shine the way they do. ๐ค

En lo fรญsico, es un hermoso trรญo de libros. Lo malo es que la etiqueta de Netflix es impresa y no se puede retirar.

These books are well written. If you’ve watched the “Shadow and Bone” series on Netflix you’ve gotta get these books. Leigh Bardugo has a way of bringing the Grishaverse to life as the words fly off the pages.
Jerry from North Carolina –
The author tailors the story so that the reader is drawn into the fabric of the story. The reader is there with the characters as the story unfolds. Perfect ending to the tale. Satisfying.

This series is just magical โจ๏ธ I enjoyed it so much. No spice but still amazing writing. The story has captured me and the characters have took up space in my heart. Would highly recommend ๐

I read Six of Crows before Shadow and Bone so I expected the series to be similar. While I did enjoy Shadow and Bone, it doesnโt compare to Six of Crows. Six of Crows had an intricate storyline and complex characters that made the book engaging and exciting. Shadow and Bone had a lot of potential but it fell flat because of a few things.
The characterization was often frustrating and made no sense. Alina would get angry over something major and then just be over it the next moment. The villain was unoriginal. The minor characters like Zoya and Nikolai had more personality than Alina, Mal, or the Darkling. Character storylines had potential but they weren’t explored to their full extent. For example, we are constantly told that Genya is being taken advantage of by the King but we don’t get to see it and we don’t see the affect it had on her until the last book. I feel as though that is something that would consistently affect that character, but we don’t see it. These books are the epitome of telling and not showing in terms of character’s backgrounds, personalities, and storylines.
The romance was poorly written. Mal and Alina had very little chemistry and almost no pretense to be in relationship aside from the fact that they grew up together. I still donโt know why they like each other. The jealous and overprotective boyfriend trope is grossly overused and boring. The fact that they were undeveloped as characters also prevented me from liking them together, which ultimately took away from the plot.
The plot was often rushed and illogical. e.g. Baghra a minor character who was unsympathetic and rude to Alina helped her out of no where. Nikolai was a prince but was allowed to basically do whatever he wanted for seven years without anyone wondering where he was or what he was doing. New major plot points came out of no where, as if the author wasnโt quite sure where she was going with the story.
Regardless of its faults it is an interesting series to read and I would recommend it. I think I compared it to Six of Crows as I read, so I focused on that rather than the series on its own. It has an original storyline, amazing world building, a great writing style, and is an easy read to get through. If you can get past some of the issues with it, youโll be sure to enjoy it.

I love it. Came fast and it does not have unremovable Netflix stickers! It’s perfect.
