This is a very good book for teaching argumentation in post-secondary institutions. The book no only has explanations and examples of arguments and fallacies, but also activities which are interesting and fun for students. There are prompts for essay writing and an informative chapter on Aristotle’s rhetoric.

Honestly, I’ve read so many teacher/pedagogy books. This one, Teaching Arguments has been so insightful. If my house was flooded and I have to save one book, this would be it.
If you teach anything related to English, Writing, etc, you have to pick this one up. Study it closely.
If quality matters, this should be at the top of the Amazon list, and it’s sad that it’s not.

The book is written in comprehensible chapters that explain the concepts and provides resources with lesson ideas for the classroom. Each chapter introduces new concepts that build on information previously stated in the book, but does not need to be read in sequential order. There is also an appendix with resources for classroom lessons.
The book has changed the way I teach analysis of texts in the classroom.
As a high school English teacher and AP language and composition teacher the book is a wonderful resource.
I would highly recommend this book and it should be required reading for new teachers.

I purchased this book because I was looking for ANYTHING that would help me understand the complexities of rhetoric, and how to teach it to students. I was taking on AP Language and Composition for the first time, and felt really underwater from the get go. This book is chock-full of strategies to help students understand complex reading and writing around rhetoric. I took away so much from this book, because it is clear throughout the book the Fletcher is an educator at heart and everything comes back to THE STUDENTS, and how we can help them see complex concepts more clearly, and therefor engage with them more fully!
If you are a teacher like me, and always question whether a book is worth the price tag — if it will give you enough to actually use in classroom — do not fret with this book! It is well worth your hard earned $$
