Caithleanne Logan –
This book has been around for nearly a whole generation now and is considered the holy grail on Foreign Language Teaching since its first edition in 1993, yet as a reader I could not help noticing the excessive number of references interrupting the flow of the text and the author’s thoughts. It would have been better if these references had been included as end notes. I also had an inkling that despite its voluminous 498 pages, much of the content was a rehash of earlier work by others in the field. As such I got the impression that this text book was published as a “Best of” in its genre. Interesting topic and needed but a more memorable rewrite and more modern formatting are long overdue.ย

Maria C. –
I remember using it in a course I took a few years ago, and I was thrilled to find so many different aspects of language teaching covered in one volume. When I was thinking of buying the present edition, I asked a friend, someone with a Master’s degree in TESL/TEFL, her recommendation, and she said: “Well, Doug Brown recommended it to me.” So I bought Teaching Language in Context, and am very glad I did.

Even though I have 25 years teaching at all levels (school, college, adults, children, etc.), this book is giving me new ideas on methodology and new resources that were not available before.

i would recommend this to anyone who is going to teach a language as a profession or just by the way.

Got this book in time for class. Unfortuantely, the professor didn’t really use it. Waste of money? Probably, but maybe I’ll use it in my future teaching.

IT MAY BE OUT OF DATE, BUT IT IS ESSENTIAL IN TEACHING L2 /FL.

Still one of the best books for training graduate students to become foreign language teachers.

It is a gift. My friend likes it. She thinks it is a good book.

This is a great book for foreign language teachers, although the theories are quite verbose. It includes awesome samples than can be modified according to the language that you are teaching and the proficiency of your students.
