This four-book set of biology books are very well researched and presented, and they have a great balance of information, photos, and recommended activities. For example, the book about ants by Beverly Gerdeman, PhD, starts with information about the history, anatomy, life cycle, and roles of ants, with facts sprinkled throughout the book. Then, it gives some activities, including building your own ant farm. It then goes into a part two which covers several different species of ants and photos of each type. Each book follows a similar formula, though spend more pages on the different species while others spend more pages on the science of the topic. The authors are all very well qualified to write these books, and yet they are written in a way that is interesting and engaging to young readers. Every school library should have this book set, and any household that has young children who are interested in biology should have a set at home.

This is a really nice set of quality science books for children. The information is interesting and seems accurate. The recommended age for this book set is 6 to 9. I do believe that these books are better for the 9 and up age range. But depending on the child , that can be variable. I think that for the younger age range, you might have to read and discuss these books rather than independent reading. But that is great too. Nice to have reading time with your child.
The quality of the books is very good and the pictures are nice and interesting. The four books are about insects , fish, butterflies and ants …topics of interest to most kids that age.
I can recommend these books for children age 9 and up, possibly 8, for independent reading. Any younger and I think it will be books to read to your child. Nice set of science books.

I am so happy that I ordered this Junior Scientists Nature Book set for my grandchildren to read! There is so much interesting information in them and the most vivid and beautiful photos. You’ll receive four different high quality books in a book box which are specific to learning about ants, butterflies, fish, and insects. Although these books are designed for children ages 6-9, I am 65 and learned a lot by reading through them. Take for instance the “Ants for Kids” book. I learned about ant colonies and the different roles of family members—queens, drones and workers. I also learned about the ants body from its antennae to its feet. Many pages have a little green box for “Did you know” information which I found fascinating. The book describes different types of ants and has photos of each one, along with “Ant Facts”. A few pages will guide your child in learning how to make an ant farm. These are just a few examples in just this one book!
Overall, these four books are really interesting, fun and have vivid photos. They certainly should keep your child’s interest, as well as yours if you are reading them together. The book set is definitely a steal at the price listed. I will be looking at other book sets from this company to order. I highly recommend them. You won’t regret it!

4 year old just starting to understand the science of the outside world. Good size, easily manageable in small hands. Good pictures, on sturdy pages, not easily torn.
Off-Grid Family –
My 5 year old is OBSESSED with bugs and these are so up her alley. Her reading skills aren’t the best right now but these books give us another thing to do together. The set comes in a nice little ‘case’ to keep them together. All hardback, good book binding, paper weight, and print quality.
I really like how each book is focusing without tons of bloat when it comes to the amount of pages. There is a good amount of content per page to keep the kid engaged without overwhelming. We’ve spent plenty of afternoons going between the pages of the books to exploring our outside areas to see if we can either find what we looked over in the book or similar and expand the learning from there. It’s been a great little collection. Even without strong reading skills she stays engaged enough that I find her picking up the books on her own to check out the pictures.
I’ve been as pleased with these books as she has and suggest picking them up for the 6-9 range without hesitation.

Fish, Insects, Butterflies, and Ants – four engaging books that will entertain kids (and caregivers) for hours! I own several other Junior Scientist books and have found them not only scientific, but interactive and approachable in their method of sharing content.
The 4 titles come in a 8.25 x 8.25 x 1.25 inch slipcase box that’s rigid and durable to protect the softcover books. The case and book covers share the same soft touch paper that elevates the packaging a bit above the basic standard paper out there.
Each book is about 62 – 88 pages including the back glossary and index and printed on a dull coated stock with bright 4-color photography and diagrams. Each book is split into 2 parts: one about the general topic of ants, fish, insects, and butterflies, then the second part “up close” to learn about different types of each species. The books use fun facts, recommendations for hands-on activities, and diagrams etc to break up the longer text. While this set is recommended for ages 6-9, you may find that younger readers are also interested in the series if a caregiver is involved in the reading. It makes a great gift to encourage kids to read non-fiction books.

My toddler has been very interested in learning about bugs and little critters he sees when we go for a hike. I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to bugs and this book set not only worked to educate my toddler but I was also able to learn about insects! It is easy to read and explain to my little one, the images are photographs and it also has realistic drawings. Each book is filled with facts and basic information you need to know in order to distinguish the little critters. Towards the end of the book there is a brief description of the insects and an image to show you what they look like, similar to a glossary. These books are more suited for older children, but the images may keep any little one who loves reading captivated long enough to read a page or two.
