My first unit got hot and failed after a couple hours of using it, the display would just say ‘err’ — I have a replacement from amazon but I still have to ship the first one back. Now, the second one has a problem. Something all the knobs attach too has come loose inside. So they all rock up and down a little, like if the nut on a potentiometer needs tightening, but there are no nuts, just a rack of loose knobs. The sound, features, package and price are all amazing however it’s not a win if the package is not solid! Not sure if I’ll get this one replaced too, or just return and try the more expensive MicroFreak.

I purchased this from Amazon for £109. That’s £36 cheaper than a Volca Keys for much more synth. At this price I don’t think there is another product that comes close.

The lightweight, plastic case might not be to everyone’s taste but if portability is a factor then it can be seen as a plus point. The synth architecture is similar to an old fashioned entry level mono synth such as the Moog Rogue. The sound is good with non-ladder filter delivering a lot of low end frequencies. It sometimes feels weird to hear such beefy tones from a toylike box!

PROS – very portable, very affordable, patch memory and a useable keyboard.
CONS – susceptible to noise, requires software editor for deep patching, possibly fragile. The factory presets are not great but you can download plenty more via the editor.

It took some experimentation with audio and USB cables to eliminate the digital noise from the output. The software provided is Windows or Mac only though the editor runs happily under Wine on Linux.

Overall, I’m very pleased with UNO.

Things I like: Can save patterns and presets. Arpeggiator has many modes. If you connect the synth to computer you can store unlimited amount of sounds you make and load them any time into a synth. Computer app gives even more options for tweaking sounds. When registering the unit – register it to the whole new email address as if you gonna sell it in the future you will transfer license easier, otherwise new owner has to pay 20 bucks to transfer license for the software.
Things I don’t like: The body of my unit was curved. It does look like it comes like that from the factory as there is no damage signs at all. The body of the unit shakes when you press buttons on the right lower corner and I had to put two layers of double sided scotch tape to level the surface. Also sometimes my synth scroll presets on it’s own and if I haven’t saved preset I work on – it’s gone… I feel like the unit I got was just a return item and I got it next as it was 149.99. I wonder if I’m right…

My package was delivered to the wrong address and I thought it would be a hassle to get my product replaced. Let me tell you, I was thrilled with the customer service from the seller! IK multimedia took care of my issue super fast, got me my product within a week, was very friendly, and on top of that, this synth is phenomenal! It’s so fun, not complicated, easy to take anywhere, and it sounds great! I highly suggest this to anyone who’s interested

I started my journey into analog synth world and music itself with that UNO Synth.
Much cheaper and smaller than Korg/Moog, but I think it has some limitations in sound too.
But it is good for newbie like me.
I glued small rubber pads to the bottom, because it doesn’t have them (to avoid annoying sound when you hit keys hard and plastic hits a table).
IMHO, with USB connection and their UNO Synth Editor Software it’s much flexible, than without (all controls on the screen, not matrix-knobs interface). They’re some tricks in the setting to select USB port, but it works well after you select it.
I have heard Default preset no 86 on some youtube reviews – for me it was enough to buy it, like that sound so much.

I might leave this on 86. That sound and variations on it make my heart sing. I pushed it through a stereo chorus and my plants grew two feet, and my hair grew back. It’s that good.

Otherwise, it’s a very capable little monosynth with a terrible interface. I recommend sequencing with something else. Oh, get a keystep. Any of them. Glue this to it. Put it on 86. Leave it there. : ) Pull it out when it’s raining or you are blue. Or, leave it tethered to a laptop and keep the synth editor software open. Or get the Pro X where the knobs are less virtual. I’ll be leaving mine on 86. : ) I have a Typhon. Pairs nicely with this. It can do the fancy stuff. This thing is on 86.

The point is, it doesn’t matter that it’s about 5 bucks of plastic and no metal. Ok the shafts in the encoders might be metal. That said, it does not matter for two very important reasons:

    1) You have a vast library of outstanding presets, then even more online. Free. VERY good presets.
    2) It sounds absolutely astoundingly good

It’s the most bizarre thing. It’s like watching a cat beat up a bear. This thing sounds better than any virtual analog synth I have. It sounds better than the Roland S1. It took it’s spot instantly. It sounds better than the J-8. It’s mono presets sound better than my virus snow. And to me, sounding the best wins. Every single time. Maybe I’m crazy. Maybe I’m not hearing the difference brownian motion is making on the electrons in the analog circuit, or whatever. It sounds better. The S1 had been on board because it sounded so good. Now it’s off the island unless I get more space. I’m busy pushing this synth through a pog pedal and giggling like a fool. It sounds as good or dare i say better than the Typhon, if you don’t add in the Typhons outstanding quality effects. And the Typhon sounds amazing. This sounds at least as good as it does. This is the absolute best bargain on a monosynth on Earth right now. If you plan to sequence it with something else.

Had for a couple of weeks, paired with a Arturia keystep keyboard and three Korg Volca’s.
A blast to use, easy to learn for me, and very smooth synth sounds from the 80’s
the LFO is very good and the whole system has little background noise. My only complaint is that its powered by USB or batteries. No dedicated power only connector. I am not a fan of mini USB connectors. they tend to fail after some use. if it does I will modify it. Also as others have stated the software is fantastic, but your license can’t be transferred I think this hurts the resale market, because the new owner will haver to register and PAY for the software… not a good deal…

No matter what you connect the USB power to – computer, console, or grounded wall outlet – the noise is overwhelming. You are stuck using batteries which have a quoted “three hours of continuous use” spec, but the low bat warning starts flashing well before that.

Basically this is a good product that fails miserably in the power department. They spent a lot of time packing in features but failed to address basic infrastructure needs. This unit should have a wall wart, not a USB power feed. If that meant increasing the price by $20, so what.

Don’t buy it, you’ll just return it. Or buy a lot AA batteries.

Wow! In all of my years of owning synthesizers(over 43), I would have to say this is the MOST impressive for the size and money!! It’s super easy to play and has massive potential!! The arppegiator and sequencer really are quite good! LOTS of modulation potentials. Good filters and envelope! annd….it goes on! For two hundred….it’s a NO BRAINER! Especially for you people who have NO synthesizer experience or knowledge! OH…and it sounds so BIG for a little “shrimp”! LOL! ♫♪
