This trumpet (180S43) came with 3rd valve completely stuck. I didn’t want to use too much force to free it, so had to returned it. Looking at the silver finish, it seems the instrument was previously handled, it has many whitish smudges everywhere.

I’m starting to wonder maybe the music stores do some custom work on these trumpets before they sell them, ‘cos the one from Amazon is simply unplayable!

I started playing a cornet in 1950. Cornets are cool, but a good trumpet can bring down the walls of Jericho! In the 1950’s, I played what my family could afford. By 1960, I was aware that much better instruments than I had were being made. When I could afford a better instrument, I tried a lot of them out. I was blown away by the quality and sound of the Bach Stradivarius line. My other love is physics and I ended up serving in the U.S. Army for the better part of three decades as an officer in the Nuclear Weapons program and never had the time to play music. After my retirement, I returned to the trumpet and found that a host of new instruments were being made. Yamaha is making some good trumpets…and Schilke…and Martin…and more. I tried all of them again (I had to visit many music stores in many states). I was impressed with every one of them and it was obvious that some were very good. I tried the Bach Stradivarius line and found them all to be top-of-the-mark, but the ML-180S-43 jumped out as the one I had to have. For me, it has many tones. I could create a bright sassy and brassy tone when I played jazz and I could create a beautiful dark tone when I played the classics. I could generate nice vibrato tone when I played balads. I could do all this with the same horn…one that played IN TUNE and slotted well. The .459 bore made the instrumnent easy to play and the high notes were higher. Equally important, the low notes were full and steady. I know it makes no sense, but the horn just sounds COMPETENT! Of course, the player has a lot to do with that, but this instrument helps the musician’s natural abilities and never seems to hinder anything. With a lesser instrument, I always felt that I would soon ‘hit a wall’ beyond which I could never progress. That kind of feeling is GONE. Some of you may have heard that the silver plated horn sounds brighter than the lacquered one, and I’ve heard that, too. I discovered that people seem to hear a brighter tone when they SEE a silver trumpet and a darker tone when they SEE lacquer. When these same people cannot see the horn, they could not hear a difference. If you are looking for a great instrument, I suggest you try out the major professional trumpets, but save the Stradivarius for last. That way, you won’t have to suffer with the lesser instruments and you’ll KNOW you’ve found the best one. Also be advised that some Bach Strads are better than other Bach Strads.

It was totally awesome, it plays good and sound great. Even though you’ll probably need to get it really warmed up for like 2 hours- it’s when you start concerning about the quality, but then it’s just … too good. However the case was different, it is way heavier and way better looking. It’s a hard leather shell. I just so liked it…
