I started playing saxophone in band in 1973. I had an alto sax and was looking for to buy a tenor sax (which I played both in high school and college). After reading the reviews from previous buyers and mostly positive ratings I decided to give this Mendini by Cecilio a try. The instrument came well packaged and protected. As with other comments about the case it is not a hard case but will do the job that I need it for.

As far as the instrument itself, I was pleasantly surprised at how heavy the instrument was. It seems to be a well built instrument. Again as with other comments on the mouthpiece, neck strap, and reeds, they are very low quality, but I had the foresight to have ordered a better mouthpiece, reeds, and neck strap. I ordered a Selmer S-80 C* mouth piece, an Adorence padded Saxophone Neck Strap, and Vandoreen reeds (I like #3). The tone of the instrument was amazing and using the enclosed tuner the instrument played amazingly well in tune after adjusting my mouthpiece. Having played saxophone for nearly 50 years in elementary, high school, community, big band era, and college, for the price this is an amazing instrument. So if you are on an limited budget or just wanting to see if this is an instrument you or a child would want to play it is well worth the money.

Beautiful! Better then I expected. Case was hard, protecting the sax, and with everything included the price is awesome! My son, 12 yo, loves the color and his set!

    ย Spectacular value for money.
I bought this Mendini tenor saxophone on Amazon. I confess that I was impressed with the quality of the timbre and the tuning.
    Total cost benefit.
Based on the reviews here, I wouldn’t buy it. I decided to take a chance and I was very happy.
I want to test the curved soprano saxophone and the alto saxophone made by Mendini.
I highly recommend it to everyone!!

    1) Arrived a couple of days earlier than expected with everything advertised and needed to begin playing immediately
    2) Well packaged and arrived in perfect condition
    3) The instrument case itself is not a hard case, but it is well built, sturdy and will probably travel well. I only use this at home, with not much travel., so it is perfect for me. I do think it would be fine for back and forth to school, but a student would have to be a little more careful with it than a traditional hard case.
    4) The instrument itself is beautiful, seems well built, and plays smoothly. No sticky pads, keys are spaced normally and it feels as good as any other saxophone I’ve played.
    5) One complaint: The neck strap is cheep and thin. It is functional and holds the instrument fine, but I will have to replace it with something more comfortable if I’m to play the instrument for a long time.

Over all I am really impressed with this instrument at any price, but at this price it is a real hidden gem. The tone is smooth and rich, but a little “breathy”. It handles beautifully and it has made me excited to get back to practice and be able to call myself a musician again! The breathlessness of the instrument is most likely a problem with my skill level and not the instrument itself. It HAS been over 15 years sense I’ve owned a saxophone and much longer than that sense I’ve played with any constancy. That said, I would recommend this saxophone to any beginner. The instrument itself looks beautiful and not “cheep” as i feared it might., I imagine it would really stand out, in a good way, on any stage.

Final thought: Great price. Great sound. Great quality. A real deal for anyone looking to make a joyful noise, or become a serious musician.

ย Unfortunately, the neck screw arrived damaged.
Also, there was a note in the case about it being refurbished, when everything online said new.

However, I paid $200 for something that could have easily cost $800 and I wouldnโ€™t have been surprised. Or even more.

Itโ€™s going to take some work, the mouthpiece is pretty bad and I have a replacement coming in. The reeds were not very good either. I ordered a nice synthetic reed.

As a learner instrument this is excellent for an excellent price. Iโ€™m giving it 5/5 even with the problems, the value is just too great

My order came in and had a strong odor to it, you know the kind that starts to show up after playing a Brass instrument and has accumulated a little moisture? There were two boxes it was shipped in, one was already cut open. The sleeve the sax was in was torn, indicating this had already been removed once before. The keys had no cork stoppers, again another sign of previous use. Fingerprints were present throughout the horn and more. I bought this new, not used. I have to assume that someone bought this and realized it was unplayable in its current condition and returned it. The store then sold as new………

The Sax was also unplayable below middle G. This would not suit a beginner player whatsoever as most of the notes a beginner would play are on the lower side. It would be impossible for a beginner to know if it was something the player was doing or if its the horn (based on their knowledge). Extremely bad leaks, I counted 4.

I don’t understand how you can supply an instrument with the understanding that it more than likely wont work and will require some adjusting, and not adjust it. As a service to your customers and to protect your companies profits I feel it would be in your best interest to ensure the item works, to help eliminate returns and negative reviews. If this is truly a music store as it leads you to believe, adjusting a brand new horn shouldn’t take more than 15-30 minutes of your time. Then again I guess you could always create a new account or change your name, that’s probably about the same time frame. I would also suggest not reselling used equipment as new.

To put things into perspective I own a Kessler and Sons Dark Handmade One Soprano sax. These guys grabbed the horn I purchased and tested it prior to shipping it to me. Even left a thank you note and assurance of testing and playability. I didn’t need to return the horn because it worked and does so flawlessly.

To give my review some context, I played various saxophones for 7 years in school. After a decade away, I decided I wanted to play music again. For the price, this thing is great. Yea it’s not as good as a Yamaha, but it plays just fine. What I paid works out to renting a better instrument for about 10 months, and as this comes with a 1 year warranty this seemed the smart choice. You probably wouldn’t use this sax as a career musician, but if you’re a student or someone who just likes to play every now and then for fun, this is a great inexpensive option. And it’s gorgeous!
You will want to buy something to use to swab out the neck and bell, and you might want a better neck strap.
Pro tip-there’s not a lot of solo music out there for tenor sax, it’s generally a support instrument. If you want solo music, get music written for the clarinet-the instruments are in the same key.

Company gives great support, the sound is impressive, esthetically pleasing to the eyes, however poor quality build. I’m not able to transport it due to the shoddy craftsmanship. I left the house once with it and something fell off. It needed to be serviced within the first 4 months. I had trouble finding someone who would service this brand. Mendini does not have a good reputation. Good for home only. Try to pay less if you can.

I am a complete beginer on the sax so didn’t want to spend a lot of money. I purchased this sax and it arrived way sooner than expected. It looks great and feels solid to hold and has some weight to it the case is great for what I need but if carting the sax around I would recommend replacing it for a hard shell. I liked that it came with all the extras the reeds are ok. BUT the tuner does not work ended up downloading a free app to tune the sax and that worked way better. The neck strap keeps coming unattatched during playing (plastic clasp) and is of poor quality so I have orderd a new one with metal clasp. The mouthpiece is poor quality so I am replacing that also. All in all so far sax is worth the money and seems like a good student sax if you accept that the extras are garbage and will need replacing right away.
