Not only does this microphone look cool, it actually produces some amazing vocal quality. My daughter is an up-and-coming professional singer and I bought this for her 21st birthday. She loves it and it is now her go-to studio microphone. So now she sounds great, and looks amazing doing it.

This is such a great microphone. Not only is it probably one of the best looking mic’s on the market it sounds good too!
This mic sounds really clear and is ideal for me looks good on my stage. To say I’m impressed is an understatement,
I just wish for the price that it came with a a bag or box to protect it from damage.
But I knew it didn’t before I bought it. It does not detract from the looks or the sound quality
Marcos –
Not only does it sound good, the quality is top of the line and the old-school vibe it gives off really sets me apart on stage.

Sounds crisp. Full. And has REALLY good feedback rejection. I can leave this microphone on near a blasting monitor speaker and I donโt get any feedback at all. Most microphones Iโve used have given feedback and itโs been a constant struggle to find the sweet spot of loudness and not having feedback. 10/10 microphone. And itโs so rockstar looking.

The iconic look of the Shure 55SH microphone is enough to justify it’s purchase, but it helps to compare it with the similar (and considerably more expensive) “Super 55” also offered by Shure. While the 55SH is more affordable and offers the additional feature of a switch, it isn’t as sensitive as some of Shure’s other excellent microphones. You can compensate for this either by increasing the gain on the amp or using a PA preamp, and with those considerations the mic performs extremely well, especially in live conditions. The effective “super-cardoid” pickup pattern means that monitors can be placed directly in front of the singer and it will not feedback. I’ve used it for several months now in a swing band, and we love the way it looks and the way the singers look and sound when they are using it.
The only cons I can offer are a) we thought we would like the switch on the front, but it turns out that the switch can accidently be turned off by the singer (problem until the singer figures out what happened), and b) a singer who prefers to hold the mic in their hand will not like the heavy weight… it’s meant to stay attached to the mic stand. We solved the first problem by putting a clear plastic guide over the switch plate to hold the switch in the “on” position. Remember this mic is meant to mimic the “good old days” when microphones were big, heavy things and no one held them in their hands. Elvis used mics like this when he first started, and radio announcers could hide behind their mics.
Shure holds it’s retailers to a minimum retail price, so it’s hard to get a deal on one of these. We were happy with the sturdy brushed chrome construction and performance of the mic, and I’ve already been asked to allow friends to borrow it for special functions. This one’s a keeper!
Bottom line is… you can get smaller Shure mics that sound just as good or better, but if you want both retro looks and great performance, the Shure 55SH will be your first choice.

My wife just bought this for me for our Anniversary. I’ve been looking at getting one for quite some time, and now that I have one, I can say without a doubt that the mic does not disappoint in any way. First thing you will notice is the substantial heft to the mic. It’s built like a tank, and with the pedigree of Shure…it will last a lifetime. I have a couple of SM58’s for stage vocals…but those will now be relegated to Back up vocals because the 55SHII Is that much better. It has a crisp sound, with real depth and clarity, easy to eq any troublesome frequency out of it. The shock mounted diaphram is a lifesaver on stage, you can touch the mic, move it, grab the stand and really get into your performance…without a ton of noise. Much like the SM58 it has a sort of built in compression…you can lay into it…put your lips right on it, without distorting or getting feedback. Great Mic.

We needed three vintage-looking mics for our theatrical production. We’re delighted with the Shure 55SH. Great sound, good looks, decent price.

A really good sound through this. Once on the stand itโs a little tight to get the lead in, but an excellent quality solid piece of equipment.
