Does the Varizoom Rock Style Zoom work with the x2? & the answer for myself using it was yes, but the w to T is very touchy so you have to practice being gentle with touching either side or it will zoom in or out to quick and doesnt look professional. I owned a panasonic hmc 80 before this camera and alot more controls that I need to make a great quality sports live stream and filming and I work with the shutter settings for night time exposure for football so their is good lighting and contrast of the colors, so sometimes I switch to the auto shutter for the best results

First of all, this camcorder produces truly exceptional images. This is due in large part to the great zoom lens and low-light capability of the big image sensor. You’d have to drop 3K in glass alone if you went with a mirrorless camera over this camcorder. The audio, however, is a different matter.

The audio became unusable with any external XLR mic. The internal mic was even worse. Labor to fix this camcorder is on you after 90 days. Parts are covered for one year. You also have to pay for shipping to the one and only repair center in the USA. Panasonic pays for FedEx ground return, “as a courtesy”. The online tech support person used that phrase.

The whole process took 4 weeks insteead of the advertised 72 hours. Two printed circuit boards had failed and one of the boards was not in stock. When the camcorder was finally sent back to me, it shipped in the very thin cardboard product box it came in rather than putting the product box into a proper cardboard shipping box. The very thin product box arrived damaged (surprise, surprise), but the styrofoam shell the camcorder comes in saved the day.

The post-repair audio is noticeably better, but it is still completely unacceptable. A noise gate filter must be used in post to clean up the hiss. I have an old Nikon DSLR that has a better preamp than this thing has. Even my iPhone records better audio with an external wired mic. Audio this poor would be completely unacceptable for a 500 dollar Walmart consumer camcorder, let alone a 3100 USD prosumer camcorder. If I could return it, I would. This will be my last Panasonic purchase.

Just what i wanted, the camera is spectacular , sure ! it won’t beat a full sensor and higher megapixels, how ever; the image is very clear, and does feel like 4k at 59. frames, zoom blows my mind compare to a DSLR camera, this camcorder is an all in one feature specifically purpose for pull out and shoot, way faster auto tracking, auto setting often keeps it at f8 wile compensating, so image looks great even at full zoom looks like a bigger image at high quality in 4k mode; as if it was a 90xzoom lens, often other cameras will have the same range at just HD an they have smaller image size lower quality, this camera retains clear image and wider picture. probably a quick observation on a downside is that the auto balance in front of a strong light source darkens the image, how ever it can be fix in pose with absolute certainty or using manual mode, this tool camcorder is mainly for video capture but at each 59. frames it retains a nice picture quality image, DSLR purpose is hybrid with more tedious settings but of course quality is at professional level though also twice or more expensive for one scenario occasion. so it just depends what your looking for and what you need it for, i value the camcorder as indispensable equipment, unless you want to buy a 6k or 12k~15k camera equipment then skip this one. I suggest getting both DSLR and a Camcorder.

It’s relatively inexpensive, and it’s nice to have a 20x optical electronic-controlled optical zoom. This is the most definite benefit that no full-frame camera seem to offer. However, the camcorder is much larger and heavier than a comparable mirrorless full-frame camera, and produces poorer footage in low light.
I needed to set a remote zoom, because manual operation produces too much shake on a tripod.
No remote control was found to work with this camcorder, but it’s supposed to offer similar functionality through a smartphone app. The camcorder is supposed to create its own WiFi hotspot, to which one connects a smartphone and controls the camcorder through a downloaded application. The default password is buried in a lengthy manual, and once found, input, and accepted by a WiFi connection setup on my iPhone, it refused to connect. iPad refused to connect either. Switching WIFI channels, and changing other settings brought no joy. No help found online, nor any response to my posted question. Amazon said unable to help, go and get support from to Panasonic. Panasonic hid its support number, but offered a chat. I tried the chat, but it said the chat is unavailable out of business hours. It was around noon on Friday, not on a holiday, definitely within their business hours. I gave up and returned it. Too much hassle.

I come from more of a cinema camera and DSLR / mirrorless world, so this was my first professional camcorder. It’s actually quite convenient to have such a wide zoom range built into the camera.
The battery life is impressive, and the image stabilization is also quite amazing.

    Pros:
    – very detailed image
    – Fairly light camera
    – decent in camera natural sound.

    Cons:
    – I suggest using an external monitor and the HDMI cable sticks out the back. Which is hard to then plug a cable in and hold it against your chest while you look at a top mounted monitor. I have broken 1 HDMI cable already. So now I might get an SDI monitor since that cable comes out the side instead.
