I purchased this unit to give maximum video source flexibility for a minimal price. I primarily use Netflix streaming, so I considered an Apple TV for $99. However, I occasional play DVD or BlueRay discs, so having that capability is helpful. This device gives me both for the same price as the Apple TV. Plus it has numerous other streaming services, like Vudu, YouTube, etc.
Device operates well. One reason I bought the Panasonic unit was because I also bought a Panasonic TV. That enables some nice integration through their “Viera Link” functionality. It allows you to control both TV and disc player through either remote, causes devices to switch on and off or change input source in response to each other, and other convenience features–as long as you connect the devices with an HDMI cable. I find it convenient and intuitive.
The unit boots fairly quickly and the streaming functionality (NetFlix, at least) works quite well (in fact it looks identical to the implementation of NetFlix on my older LG player).

The cd open/close button is on the opposite side of the cd drawer. The on/off button is directly above the cd drawer. This makes many, and I mean many accidental turning off the cd player when one only wants to close the cd player.
I mean really want kind of retard puts the on/off button above a cd player?

I bought this product refurbished and at first after reading some really bad reviews on the item I was really nervous about it working ok. But it works fantastic, not weird sounds or clicking noises all is smooth. Sometimes on the blu-ray it takes a minute to get going but that it.

I bought this a couple months ago and I love it. I decided to go with the Panasonic due to I have a Panny Plasma to use it with. No issues and it works great. I wasn’t even sure I wanted or would use the network features. But, They are a welcome addition that I’ve used a few times and was pleased with the ease of use.

All Blu-Ray players will provide excellent picture quality, it’s the extra features that make the difference. I bought the BD655 because it claimed to be able to connect to the internet via wireless USB. NOT TRUE! The only way to get wireless connectivity is to purchase the proprietary adapter from Panasonic, which cost more than the player itself. There is nothing on the box that would warn that no other adapter will work. If the Panasonic adapter is the only one that will work, it should be included in the box. Why not sell the remote separately, or the HDMI cable? At least they provided a power cord. I never got past the setup, boxed it up and returned it. Very misleading.

Well, I have a stack of Technics and Panasonic equipment. I’ve never been disappointed with anything I bought that was made by this company. I’m sure there are duds, but I haven’t landed any of them. This product boots up pretty quickly compared to some of my older DVD equipment. That’s nice. The remote handles my other equipment without any fuss, and can be easily set up to avoid conflict with my same-brand DVD player that I still have in the rack. We don’t really prioritize time to explore and use all the features to advantage and mostly just appreciated the unit price and the ability to buy newer media now that Blu-Ray won. We don’t use the online features, so can’t speak to the networked capabilities. We generally don’t subscribe to a lot of online services.

The sound is great! The player does not display the times for the movie it is playing on the TV screen when pause is used. I have never had a player that does this. However Sony has a button you can push to get the times.

If you want an inexpensive Blu-ray DVD player that plays just about any format, this is for you. It is also Wireless System Ready, which means that with the proper router and setup you can stream Netflix. The quality of sound and vision is just as good as any other Blu-ray player I have owned (Samsung and Sony), but I would warn that the DVD takes much longer to load than the other players I have used. This can be a bit frustrating, as you are not really sure if it is loading or is stalled (it is loading). As the adage goes, you get what you pay for, but for the price, you really can’t complain too much. It’s not high performance technology, but it gets the job done and its inexpensive. Personally I would go for the Samsung BD-D5700 Blu-ray Disc Player with Built-in WiFi (BD-D5700/ZA).
