I was looking for a blu-ray player with wi-fi for my bedroom. I wasn’t looking for anything special, just something that could play blu-rays and Netflix. I found this one on a warehouse deal really cheap, so I bought it. It is fantastic. It can access my computer, as well as my Samsung smartphone. I have another blu-ray player (not Samsung, and not wi-fi) that also plays Netflix, and it’s very laggy and drops connection a lot, despite the fact that it is a wired connection. This one has no lag and never drops connection. Smart Hub allows you to get all kinds of other apps. It’s a great buy, all around. In fact, I like it so much that I ended up buying another one at full price to replace the wired one in my living room.

I bought this for 1 thing, and that is Plex. Well…that and Blu Ray. Yeah, it’s a little slow, but I have it hooked up via Ethernet, and my Plex library plays great, and that is all I wanted.

I bought this to go with the Samsung 46″ TV I just bought. It was more cost-effective that buying a Smart TV. I had a little problem signing on for the first time because of a Samsung server problem, but once that was taken care of, the player is great! I love being able to watch Netflix, YouTube and listen to all my music, watch my videos on my TV instead of my computer. I gotta say, Samsung has nothing but good products. Deliver was fantastic and quick.
Wish I could give it more than 5 stars! For anyone looking to buy a Smart Blu-Ray player–this is the one to get!

As a Blu-Ray player the Samsung E5700 is great. Plays crystal clear and even does some up-samples standard def DVDs so they look great as well. Plays any type of audio CD too. I love the additional digital audio out jack in the back so I can connect it directly into my stereo when the HDMI cable is just going to the TV.
The downsides are the online aspects. The “SmartHub” is very slow to start up and upon opening apps as well. (This is not my internet connection since I have a very fast connection that works great with all streaming media.) The interface is terrible as well as you have to use the remote up, down, left, right keys to navigate and there is a long lag time. Then when you need to type or login to an app, navigating to each letter and hitting enter to select it takes forever.
So overall it’s a great player, but they need to speed up the SmartHub feature and add a better way of interfacing with it.

As I read on some review, “it make my TV smart”. In fact I recently move into a new apartment and as of now I can’t afford cable nor satellite but really didn’t care much cause with the smart hubs apps I can satisfy my TV hunger. You must consider upgrading your internet speed though cause there are apps like youTube that will slow down quite a bit sometimes. Nevertheless it is still possible to watch a low internet speeds if you are not browsing the internet with any other device at home. Those problems are a thing of the past for me since I upgraded my internet speed to 30 Mbites down/3 Mbites up. Before this I was using 8 up/ 0.5 down. The actual interface of the BR seemed a bit slow to me at the beginning but then I was told by a friend that in general lines all BR are slow and that mine was a bit faster indeed. This is my first BR so I had no clue at first. I trully think it is an affordable solution for people that are running tight on the money. I am paying $35 bucks for the internet plus $8 for hulu plus as oppose to $110 for cable and internet bundle. Apps like hulu plus, netflix and vudu run nice and smooth with great image quality. So as Pandora and the sound quality. The only thing I regret about not having cable is not being able to watch sports :-(.

I bought this after seeing my parents’ and after watching the painful set-up of my Sony Blu-ray with built in wi-fi. NO COMPARISON. Awesome picture. Great functions. Next TV will be a Samsung to pair with this Blu-ray. My Sony is now in the bedroom hooked up to a Sony TV (settings held during move so didn’t have the painful set-up again). Care nothing for 3D, so went without it as I am not a videophile and 3D gives me a headache! Even not paired with Samsung TV, still great.

Set up was quick and smooth. Netflix works like a charm.
The disc-playing component of this machine, however, is AWFUL! Whirs so loudly that it’s woken me up in the middle of the night on several occasions. No BD Live functions work. I can’t access the disc menus at all. Chapter selection, set-up menu, & special features are all unavailable. My other 2 Samsung players (of different models) don’t have this issue. I suspect I got a bum unit which is going back this week.
The remote control is nicely compact. Buttons are closely bunched together, though, and the Netflix button consumes a big portion of real estate. It’s quite easy to press inadvertently, which pulls you instantly out of a movie into the Netflix app or from the Netflix app to the device menu. Kinda annoying. Volume buttons are small and not intuitively placed. Lots of functions available directly through the remote, which is a plus.
The device itself is very small, good for those tight on space. The design is plain, cheap even, but is reflected in the MSRP.
Overall, the lack of aethestics, quality of construction, and 3D functionality make this unit not worth its current price. I’d suggest paying slightly more for a device which offers the features just mentioned.
