I wanted a replacement Blu-ray player for my four-year old Samsung Blu-ray player that could handle 3D programs. I was attracted to this model because of it’s high-speed dual-core processor which for me suggests this player can handle image improvements such as noise reduction and deep color with ease. It appears to be faster loading and is definitely much faster at toggling the scan and slo-mo speeds as compared to my older player.

The streaming apps for this player number about 400, up from 300 available for my older player. I was able to install an app for Amazon Instant Video which is not available for my older player. Unfortunately there is no app available for Archive.org. For some things you have to have a Roku device. If you have a Roku device, then you are probably not concerned with the streaming feature of any Blu-ray player or TV. Whatever you want to watch by streaming, Roku seems to do a better job. If streaming with a Blu-ray player is important to you, then I suggest you go to the Samsung website and look at the apps available for their players–you can select the apps based on the player model number and then look for the apps important to you.

As a plus, this player can produce the 4K upscaled images for newer TVs. I’m sure my next TV will be 4K so that will be important someday for me. It’s important to understand that you should always do the upscaling with the player whether it is a Blu-ray or DVD player. Players can do a much better job of upscaling than any TV especially when it comes to multiple signal processing tasks. Connections should always be by HDMI cable to the TV or pass-through feature of a surround sound amp.

This player has a separate HDMI jack for connection to a sound system which will allow the video signal to be connected directly to the TV. It also has separate analog outputs for 7.1 sound (8 RCA jacks) which may be helpful for those with multiple audio amps or an older AV surround amp. If there are latency issues there is a adjustment for audio sync in the setup of the player. There is no master audio level control built into this player, so using multiple amps will require a separate coordinated level control method.

This player provides limited control for a Samsung TV such as power and audio level. But it cannot control a TV made by someone else. This is the only negative, but for me it’s a big one. I would not go so far as to reduce the rating by a star for it, but you need to be aware of this. In this day and age this strikes me as excessively unfriendly. My older player controls my 75″ Brand X TV just fine.

There is a function that will provide fast startup for this player. This function does not improve the speed of disc loading as such, but merely keeps the memory hot with software loaded that will shorten the boot time when the player is first turned on. The player uses more power when in “off” mode if this option is selected. I’ve turned it off after trying it for myself and recommend you do the same. Boot time is not a significant factor for me as my TV takes longer to come up than this player.

I recommend this player for anyone who wants an advanced unit with a fast processor and competent signal processing or needs 7.1 channel discrete audio outputs. It should keep you up-to-date for the foreseeable future. I am pleased with this model apart from it’s head-in-the-sand attitude toward other-brand TVs. I have not tested it with a 4X TV nor have I used it for 3D.

First the obligatory “I am not a Lawyer” – I read legalese as English not lawyer-speak. My interpretation of the license terms may or may not be “correct” in a Legal sense – but as I read the terms they are awful and I could not imagine agreeing!

Based on how I read the four separate sets of terms to which you must agree to use smart hub or install any apps (i.e. to stream Amazon, Netflix, etc.) you must agree to allow Samsung to monitor what you watch through any App (including using technology to identify what you’re watching even if it comes from somewhere other than Samsung). The setup process claims you can opt out of agreeing “supplemental” terms (two of the four agreements) – but you really can’t if you want Apps or SmartHub.

After noting the invasive monitoring language, I read all the agreements more carefully and found a real gem – it appears to me that if you agree their terms and post your own content (to some user content service they offer) you have agreed to indemnify Samsung against any costs they incur should your content have a virus that costs Samsung money (i.e. to remove the virus from their systems and recover from any damage, any legal costs they incur, etc.). You also appear to be allowing Samsung to use your content (family photos, home movies?) to advertise their service.

So as I read the agreements, Samsung could bankrupt you if you accidentally upload content with a virus that harms their systems – but if your home movie goes viral they can use your video for their own marketing without paying you a dime. Heads Samsung wins, Tails you lose.

Overall I find the terms truly outrageous. I was so angry I called Samsung customer service and once it was clear I would not agree their terms, but still expected advertised features like apps to work, the tech hung up on me – I don’t blame him as there was nothing else to say, but it was rude.

The terms I read also seem to indicate that you will be required to truthfully identify yourself to use some services – I didn’t get that far so I don’t know whether agreeing the above terms anonamously gets you anywhere or whether you have to identify yourself (real name, etc.) as well if you want to actually use any of the Apps or SmartHub features. That would be even more outrageous and offensive – and also hints Samsung will keep asking for more and more information and/or agreements. No telling what you really have to give them to actually use their advertised features.

I’m debating whether to return the player out of sheer anger, or keep it as Blu-Ray only (forgot to try that before boxing up to return). I got a great deal so might be worth keeping as Blu-Ray only – but even if it’s a good Blu-Ray it is among the worst products I have ever purchased. I can’t believe what companies expect people to sign away just to use key advertised features of their products (with no up front notice that I could see in the Amazon product page as to the additional “costs” you incur based on their license terms).

    Other things to know:

Setup was quick and easy – but getting the MAC address came after a failed network login. Odd but not a big deal.

Clearing Network info before sending it back – not so easy. I’m not sure my local information was deleted. This is bad (for return and for anyone who wants to re-sell their player). I may keep the player just to avoid disclosing my network info to whoever buys it.

It is FAST compared to my now old Oppo BDP-83 and my more recent Sony set top box.

The Web Browser, on the other hand was slow and seemed very clunky. You can get to the web w/o the nasty license terms – but you don’t seem to be able to change default search – as far as I could tell you are stuck with Bing (but you can set your homepage to Google). Even “very fast” pointer speed is slow. I didn’t do much with the browser, and doubt I ever will – Chrome on my Samsung tablet is infinitely better and equally available from my easy chair.

Overall I’d really like to use the BD-F7500 as a media hub and retire the Sony – everything about the BD-F7500 was terrific, except the license agreements which are so offensive to me that I am reconsidering Samsung wholesale. We have one Samsung phone and one tablet – and I was trending toward Samsung for the whole family. Now, not so much. I don’t even want to have to read their nasty agreements closely enough to decide what I can live with and what not. Spent too much time on the four I had to read today, don’t want to go there again. I may never buy from Samsung again!

Big disappointment in the product, even bigger disappointment in the company.

  5. Happy Customer

My previous Samsung Blu-ray packed up recently after 8 years of devoted service. As it was connected to my current Samsung TV, I really wanted another Samsung player. I only recently discovered that Samsung have now pulled the plug on producing players now so I decided to have a look on Amazon for a replacement.
I still wanted one with the features of my previous player such as the counter on the front of the player so I decided to take a chance and purchase a replacement from one of your sellers.
I was pleased with the quick delivery of the player and was also impressed by the condition it was in.
It was a bit like my old player and had no scratches or other cosmetic damage. Although not required, there was even a mark on the back of the casing to show you where the HDMI cable was to be plugged in. I already knew this but thoughtful of the seller anyway! The only thing I was not too keen on was the dinky remote control but this seems to be the norm for TVs and Blu-rays now. It worked perfectly well but some of the remote functions were in different places this time but fortunately, I kept my remote from my old player so no hassle now.
So, thanks again to the seller!

The sound and picture from this blu-ray player is super crisp and clear; coupled with my Panasonic 60″ plasma, it is a tremendous upgrade from the player it replaced. My previous unit had been the core of a packaged home theatre system (not that old, and not cheap, either!) that was starting to lose functions … first it stopped recognizing and playing blu-ray discs, then wireless began stuttering, and finally the sound started fading. In short, scarcely a year after purchase, it was basically useless. I couldn’t find a direct replacement, so in an effort to save what I could, I bought this Samsung and hooked up my speakers to an AV receiver. The results are much better than they ever were with the packaged system. So my advice if you’re tempted to buy one of those theatre in a box solutions, is … don’t. When they try to do too much with one piece of hardware, they end up not doing any of it very well.

I bought this Samsung to stream video and play blu-rays … and boy does it ever. I couldn’t be happier. Setup was simple, and while it is not VIERA, it communicates beautifully with my SMART tv regardless. Color is gorgeous, and I can see every hair that’s out of place. I generally prefer the layout of Samsung’s apps vs. Panasonic’s, particularly Netflix. The only thing I haven’t tested is the web browser, mainly because I have no need of it–I have a computer for that.

I purchased the Samsung BD-F7500 for my theater room to use with my projector. It provides me with all of the benefits of a smart TV along with the ability to search the net as one would do on a computer. Through the USB port on front, I was able to install a dongle to connect to a wireless key board that makes it all so much more efficient. I have a Samsung S4 smart phone that easily pairs with the unit that allows me to project any and all content on my theater screen. It appears to me that I am getting a much clearer and better defined picture on the screen. This item most certainly addresses all of my needs and performs much better than expected.
