I have had this all region player about six months now. It works okay, I’ve had no problems. Compared to my previous panasonic player (purchased in 2009): previous player had a metal housing – this player is all plastic, very lightweight not sturdy at all; this player takes about 15 seconds or more to go from the start-up screen to your root menu – it just seems slow; this player makes a bit of noise while its running, not loud but if you are noise sensitive, it may bother you; remote is very small, all black – its hard to make out the marks on the buttons unless you have good light. It just doesn’t seem like a high-quality player. The price however is very low and it is working fine for me.

I initially ordered this product. When it arrived I read the instruction book and it applied only to region 1 DVD. I sent it back. Then I read more reviews which stated that these players were altered to play all regions. I re-ordered the player. It worked fine on my region 2 dvd’s. The first DVD player I received would probably have worked also. This DVD player is not HD, but the picture is very good. It Works very well and I’m so pleased to be able to play my region 2 DVD’s. Very easy to hook up and play.

This is a good, multi-regional player. I had a Region 6 DVD that I couldn’t play before, but now I can watch it. Not a lot of bells and whistles but the price was right and it fits nicely under my TV.Â

This is a nice little DVD player. It does all that is promised in the description. How nice to see all of my PAL DVDs again! My taste in movies is a bit eclectic, and I find being limited to only NTSC formatted films a bit confining. I had an earlier version of this Philips DVD player and it lasted me nearly 8 years. I was so happy to find this newer, lightweight and compact version. I can fit my cable box, my VCR and the DVD player on one shelf. The remote control could be better (be sure to check your manual for how to see the timer–there is no visible timer window on the front of the unit), but overall, I am very pleased with my purchase. For fellow Japanese rock fans, this unit will play the PAL format DVDs that come with the CDs!

Despite my efforts to determine if this would enable me to watch British (PAL format) movies on my computer, the information on line (and in the owner’s instructions) is singularly unhelpful. I spent over an hour of frustration conversing with several tech support people in the Philippines who were in the dark but were able to determine that there is no way to use this with a computer. I do not own a TV, nor shall I ever own one (I am 75 years old and don’t wish to own one or a lot of other techie gear) so the inability to use that as a work around is a major disappointment. The description does mention something about using a USB drive but even with a USB cable to the computer it doesn’t work, and won’t work. So I’m out about $60. More frustrating, however, is that I still can’t watch much loved British movies. I understand the rationale behind coding but for a laptop computer — by its nature designed to travel — the system is absurd, frustrating and counter productive. I can switch several the coding on the computer several times (presumably only a laptop) but why should I have to? It doesn’t prevent pirating of movies or programs…in fact, pirates probably have the films illegally for sale before they are legally for sale!
Someone should do something about the coding system. Or make a work around. Or a device that allows folks in the USA (NTSC coding, region 1) to play British (PAL region 2) stuff. We are a world, not a bunch of nation states!

I love this item! My old Philips Multi Region DVD player recently broke after years of use. I decided to ignore some of the reviews I read and purchased this newer model. It was perfect straight out of the box. Setting it up was so simple and all I did was plug it in and it came right on. The picture is perfect and I tried my DVD’s from Australia, England and Turkey and they played beautifully. The only thing I wish is that like my old player the display was on the front and also wish the remote was bigger. However, my sister suggested I try my remote from my old Philips which is bigger and it worked on this one and even the features not listed on the new remote worked! I love this product and would recommend it! Thank you Philips!

Bought some box sets, but unfortunately they were a different region. My player wouldn’t play them. Was skeptical buying a Multi Region dv.d. Player. Went through a lot of reviews till I came across this one. Received it, It came with everything you need to hook it up, including R.C.A jacks, HDMI Cable even had batteries for the remote. Hooked it up with the HDMI cable, and hoped for the best. Put my d.v.d into the unit, and it worked perfectly. The instructions are a little vague but I have had plenty of experience with electronics. Thank You Amazon. Totally happy with my purchase. Buying a blu-ray player next. And yes will definitely be purchasing it from Amazon.

I have a Sony DVD player that handles all of my Region 1 flicks and TV series, and previously had a Panasonic All Region player that worked perfectly … that is, until it gave up the ghost after about 4 or 5 years. Panasonic, alas, no longer sells that model, so I had to look elsewhere. This Philips does the job, although it plays some recent UK and Continental TV series in an abbreviated view, rather than full screen. (I solve that by playing such on on off-brand British machine.)
If I have one small complaint … and it is a small one, considering the enormous advantages and the very very modest cost … is that there is no >>FF (Fast Forward) button on player or remote. You can do jumps from one scene to either the next or the previous, but once in that scene you need a certain level of Zen acceptance to sit through many minutes of material to get to the part you’re looking for.
Ah, well, as the Zen Master has it: “Life sucks, then you die!”
