Bought 2 pairs of these for my kids for road trips and I am very pleased with them. (The kids love them too). The noise cancelling works well when trying to dampen road noise so my kids don’t need to play music and movies as loud. I’ve tried these myself and the sound quality is actually pretty good – clean bass and treble without much distortion. When switched off, they’re not very good, frankly. But when switched on, they sound pretty great. Not quite like a high-end pair, but very good for this price point. They are snug – fairly comfortable but after 2-3 hours, your head might need a break. While they work well in a car/office environment, they do NOT reduce noise enough for good airplane use in my opinion. They’ll work in a pinch, but only at full volume.
UPDATE: after 2.5 years of steady use, they are still going strong. Nothing broken, torn or worn out. Sony makes a quality product with solid materials. I keep them in a mesh bag when not in use, but am continually picking them up off the floor of the car on trips where they’ve been dropped and stepped on. Also – they work great with rechargeable batteries.

Very comfortable easy to use. Great sound

The best part is it’s not too heavy. The sound is good, but it’s that noise cancelling.

I use my mp3 player at the gym. I had a problem with the earbuds because I had to reinsert them several times per workout, and they didn’t block out the noise very well. These headphones are great. They’re comfortable, they fit well, they reduce a lot of the ambient noise, and the sound quality is excellent.

I find these headphones excellent for the price. I bought a few pairs at $17 and you can’t beat that. They are on ear so they don’t completely isolate ambient noise but they do a decent job. The noise cancellation similarly does not remove all ambient noise, but it does a good job removing hums and buzzes. I like that the headphones take one AAA battery and that they are usable without it (same as if you turn noise cancellation off). That way even if battery runs out you can still use the phones. They fold up and are great for travel.

I bought these headphones because I was looking for a pair of noise cancelling headphones that wouldn’t break the bank. These headphones were some of the top rated and the price was reasonable. I didn’t want to spend $50 for a pair of headphones. I wanted noise cancelling headphones because my husband is an awful snorer! It is ridiculous how much and how loud he snores! I read the various reviews of what people said these worked at cancelling out sound. I figured I’d give it a try. I was worried about how big they would be when sleeping. I sleep on my stomach so my head is on its side. Little earbuds usually hurt when I lay down to sleep. These headphones came and I tried them out while my husband was playing video games. I could still hear the sound of him talking and the game. Next step was to try them in bed. I turned them on and I could still hear my husband snoring. They did muffle the sound, but I could still hear it lightly in the background of the classical music I listen to to sleep. Even though I could still hear him snoring, turning on the electronic noise cancelling feature did help more than without it. They are very comfortable to sleep in and I’m happy that I bought these instead of earbuds. The battery for the electronic noise cancelling feature doesn’t last too long, especially when it is on all night. Overall they are good headphones and have excellent sound quality but they don’t cancel out the snoring husband in the bed next to you.

I bought these back in 2016 and have used them on and off since then. Most recently as a college student, driving my need for wireless option.
SOUND QUALITY: While the sound quality is adequate, I am a person who loves heavy bass, which this does not give, but the sound quality overall is pretty good.
NOISE CANCELLATION: It also does not completely cancel out noice, but does muffle/buffer it. In Starbucks, I had to turn up the volume on my computer to 75% to drown out talking. Likewise, poolside at the YMCA, I also have to amp up the volume to get any true buffering from the high sound. I am easily distractible so these are not ideal for noise distractions. Even at home with dogs and kids, I find that, no matter what, I have to amp up the volume for buffering, otherwise I hear quite a bit. I don’t notice a significant difference in turning off the ANC. The same goes for vacuuming, yard work (such as using a blower) and mowing the lawn.
COMFORT: The headphones are over ear and pretty comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. I have yet to experience significant fatigue from it. I don’t notice any extensive sweating while wearing them, either, which some have said is an issue with over the ear headphones. Granted, I’m not sleeping in them, either.
DURABILITY: Over the several affordable on/over ear headphones I purchased for my daughters’ use with online work, these were the ones she kept coming to and the only ones that have held up over the years. The cord is pretty durable, especially since I don’t have a case for it and it often gets tossed into a drawer or backpack willy-nilly (yes, an outdated term, I know).
COMPARABILITY: I have tried the Bose SoundLink II and Beats Solo3, both wireless headphones. If you are looking for comparable sound, you won’t find it. Both Bose and Beats have these headphones beat, as would be expected based on price! However, I see quite a few complaints regarding durability of the material over time. I have no experience with comparison of Bose or Beats as these are recent purchases from family members. I can attest to the durability of my Sony headphones.
CONVENIENCE: I like that my Sony headphones can work well with my 2018 MacBook Pro, as Apple didn’t see fit to change the headphone jack for any of their computers from the 3.5mm jack to a lightning jack. I use the adapter on my iPhone and it works fine. I’ve used these headphones to run on a treadmill several times and they stay put. I’m not running sprints or marathons, though. However, they are wired, and wired ONLY. Meaning I can’t be wireless, and they don’t connect to my iWatch.
For convenience due to connectivity with all of my devices, I would say that Beats Solo3 Wireless has everything I need, since I have all Apple devices and I really like having everything working together. Even my Alexa devices and Alexa Compatible plugs work harmoniously together and with my Apple devices. As a result, I will be looking for a wireless option that offers good durability and superior noise cancelling capabilities, though I won’t be getting rid of these, as they really are great quality headphones, as expected with Sony (considering I grew up in a time where Sony was considered right up there, before Bose became a more well-known entity in the market).
