My old Charge 2 came with an XL band and I had it going for years until I broke the display. I needed a new fitbit but NONE of them had straps or straps available large enough to fit my wrist. I am a large man and needed the XL band that some rocket scientist at fitbit decided they didn’t need to offer for a while. Seriously a lot of us big folks use the fitbit to track our progress to not being so big! Please don’t put obstacles up! Anyway a friend recommended the Sense 2, and I figured it listed a band the right size so I ordered knowing I could return it if it didn’t fit. Well it did, and all functions are as I expect from Fitbit. Now the bad part…

The band is made of silicone and DOES NOT allow your skin to breathe. So it holds sweat against your skin not allowing it to dry off, this causes a flaky peeling disgusting rash.

Thankfully the aftermarket apparently got on the stick and started supporting large bands in fabric again. So I ordered a nice elastic strap for mine and am tickled silly with it.

I have a GI issue that I need to track symptoms, and since I am in the fitbit app already, it would be fantastic if they could offer some sort of freeform tracking / daily health diary in the app so I could track it all in one place.

Battery life is good, not great, but good. And in typical fitbit fashion the charging adapter is anything but standard. Aside from those minor quirks though, function is great. Phone notifications are good, text messages are good except when my friends text me pics of dumb stuff…

The ability to set the watch face to a design I like is awesome. I went with an analog sport watch face and love it.

I feel like I’m cheat with my steps because, I noticed the steps be counting a lot when im driving down the highway. I also noticed one of the clock faces don’t work anymore. Fortunately when using the app, there are many other faces to use! Lastly, the watch isn’t consistent at tracking my activity. It usually can “sense” an elevated HR and more steps would equal some sort of activity. The last time I played soccer it didn’t track my activity. I guess I’ll have to be mindful and select the sport activity prior to playing.

Bought this for my hubby because he has Afib and it has many other options to help monitor his health, sleep, breathing etc. He has been wearing it the last few months and wears it most all the time. The Afib usually picks up at night and sends him a report. The watch provides additional data to provide the Cardiologist, we also have the Kardia mobile that made to monitor Afib. The watch works really well and so far he is really happy to have it. I fell better knowing he can monitor his heart rate while at work or sleeping.

I highly recommend this smart watch for anyone who wants to track their health and fitness. This watch comes with many features and is easy to use. My daughter is able to get her Dexcom notifications as well. I enjoy being able to monitor my heart rate, steps, sleep, activity levels, and many other health features. I can also receive text messages and other notifications. It is easy to use, set up and maintain. The app itself also is easy to navigate. I like the large square face to the watch, helps being able to see things clearly and you can customize it as well. Battery life is very good, the more apps running and customized wall paper i noticed a slight battery extra draw but nothing that causes the function of the watch to become unreliable or in constant charging. Very happy with the purchase.

After 5 years of good service my old Versa was struggling to keep a charge for 24 hours so I decided to replace it with a Sense 2. Huge mistake!

This device drops to 20% charge in about 12 hours and then requires charging for about 2 hours. You can wear it during the day or at night, but you really can’t do both unless you set aside a couple of hours for charging.

The watch has all sorts of sensors, but they all need to be turned off if you want 12 hours of life. Searching the message boards this seems common. I will play with the recommendations Insee there for a couple more days before returning it, but I’m not hopefull.

It is inexcusible for a company to try to market a product that falls so short of their written claims! Avoid Fitbit if you are looking for a smart watch!

Update: Turning off things like stress management and a restart apear to have imroved the battery life. Yesterday it dropped to about 60% including a 40minute walk with the GPS on. Unfortunately, it won’t charge back to 100% in the time it takes me to shower and dress like my old Versa. So it is probably a charge twise a day affair rather than the advertized once every 6 days. As others have remarked, the HR monitor seems to be incredibly inaccurate. It takes quite a while to react when starting a vigourous exercise and the HR laghs the obvioud signs like heavy breathing by several minutes. It barely registers exercises like the rowing machine in spite of the evident level of exertion. On a very steep hill that left me huffing and puffing it barely cracked into the fat burn zone. For some reason, the weather app has decided to stop working, too. The Google Maps shows turns that have nothing to do with the route being shown on the phone. This came and went, but I certainly wouldn’t trust it if I needed to get somewhere. I’m still quite dissatisfied. More later…

Well, I did get the weather app to work by turning location services to “always”. On days I don’t use GPS I can actually charge it during my morning shower and get close to 100%.

The heart beat monitor continues to be awful. My old Versa was often slow to recognize exercise, but the Sense 2 can take 10 minutes to even notice increased heart rate.

I started the trial offer on Premium but don’t see anything there that would persuade me to pay for it once the trial period ends.

Further update – for some reason, the Sense 2 has begun to mistake driving for bicycling. Based on it’s claims, I should easily win the tour de france. Pretty good for an old fat guy😃

Update after another month. The charging seems to have sorted itself out enough that I only need to charge once per day. The GPS IS some sort of random number generator, with the distance for the same exact walk varying by around 30% from day to day. Very brisk walks often show a slower pace than casual strolls.

The Sense has begun to begrudgingly acknowledge my heart is beating during rowing sessions, but is wildly inaccurate. For the stationary bike it tends to not register anything, then overshoot to ridiculous levels before settling in to reasonable agreement with the HR monitor on the bike.

The sleep logging seemed to stop at 14 days even though I have worn the Sense every night for at least 40 days. I’m not sure I care what my “sleep animal” is anyway – is this intended for children, or what???

My next fitness tracker/smart watch will definitely not be Fitbit. I will miss having 7 or so years of history, but if most of it is bogus, who cares?
