I wanted a small, discreet camera to use on our dog walks because, if an untoward incident occurs, video evidence is better than recall.
I had to send for info to apply the time/date stamp, as I could not download the text file from the boblov website. In the text message (yq_config_file) I received, I changed to the correct time and date. With the camera connected to the computer via the USB cord, I then saved the revised text file to the USB file (F: drive, in my case, Windows Vista).
Time will tell about durability, but so far:
Pros:
(1) It’s small (75 mm x 26 mm x 15 mm) and black so as to not be easily noticed. The small flashing light is to the side, not the front.
(2) A 64Gb TF (micro SD) card is included.
(3) It takes good video (1080p at 30 fps).
(4) The audio is surprisingly good for such a small camera.
(5) It does a good enough job in low (indoors) lighting, and seems okay in drizzly rain.
(6) Our dog walks last 60-75m, and the camera is still running at the end.
Cons:
(1) The instructions say
(a) video recording: flashes blue
(b) charging: flashes chartreuse
To my aging eyes, these appear to be reversed in my camera.
(2) I needed to revise the clip after the camera fell off my sling pack strap while I was shoveling snow on a walk. Good thing I felt my strap and looked back. There it was–lying on the sidewalk! Back home, I cleaned the clip. Then using one-sided sticky Velcro, applied rough Velcro out (facing camera body) on the outside clip. It seems to have helped retain the camera better.
REVISION (3.25.24):
Well, initially, I liked the camera very much. I even bought another one. Now, I have to downgrade my review from 5 stars to 3 stars because in varying (not so much) outdoors lighting, the video would go almost dark, like the darkness of dusk just before nightfall. I thought it was just the one camera, but the 2nd one has the same problem. If I can see pretty well with my aging eyes, I expect the video camera to record almost as well as what my eyes saw.

I like the camera, hence now 4 stars. The biggest drawback is that the clip alone is not enough to hold the camera to a sling strap. I would suggest Boblov include a lanyard. I lost one of my cameras on a dog walk when I stopped to cut tall weeds.

I used this to record dog walks and encounters with off leash dogs. My dog is a bully breed and is reactive to other dogs. If anything were to happen, even if it weren’t our fault, my dog would get blamed. It has proven to be beneficial two times and I’ve only owned it for three weeks.
Still trying to figure out what these pieces are though.

At first impression unboxing, it’s pretty nice little unit. It seemed like it would work well. Well, it didn’t.
I set it for video and turned it on, and went about testing it for 2 hours. What I got was about half an hour of usable video on one file, and then a corrupted second file of about 20 minutes or so that can’t even be viewed.
I need to be able to depend on this thing recording for my personal safety. It’s useless to me if it can’t record consistently and save it to files properly. What is this nonsense?

I need to take pictures of certain hostile people who constantly cross my path. But I want my camera hidden and be under the radar or normal people. This camera is great for that purpose! I love the price too! This films nicely when I’m in my car from any angle I want, as a dash mount only videos the front, and the garmin only films from one angle. I can hold this in one hand as I steer the steering wheel and still be legal under the hands free law. And I can point this thing any direction, and not look sus myself. This is the best camera to remain hidden, as it’s very inconscipsous when i clip it to my pocket. or leash or bookbag. I love this thing. It’s very easy to open and view the files on my desktop. The one thing I had to learn is to make sure the thing is switched to ‘off’ when i view the files. The only thing I wish is that the time stamp file was more easily downloaded. it downloads directly to google docs, then google docs automatically zips ‘nothing’ and makes it impossible for me to access the file. So I’m emailing help support for that.

Given that there are a LOT of competitors in this space of cameras. Very few if any attempt to achieve what BOBLOV has done with their BOBLOV W1. By far it has the best optics and lenses. They’ve managed to include a camera image sensor from SONY, the SONY IMX307. Which is incredible with how much detail it can capture at 1080P video resolution. I have many of these W1 and they are so handy and versatile. The W1 features two clips, one on the front and one removable clip in the back. Or you can just use the clip spacer after taking off the back clip and add a bar magnet with double sided 3M tape and you’ve now got a super simple mounting option to anything metal. Use this with a metal plate from a cell phone/magnetic mount and you’ve now have a super clip to a shirt solution that is not going anywhere or falling off. The BOBLOV W1 is one of the simplest and reliable cameras I have ever owned. It has NO interface, NO screen, NO USER SETTABLE options, just a single ON/OFF – Recording start, TURN OFF, recording closes…camera then shuts off. To take a Photo you can at anytime the video is recording. Or toggle the other switch to record only Audio when the W1 is turned ON. The file format is simple. Vides are saved into a folder on the SD Card (32-64-or even up to 128GB) in to a folder called Novatek under that folder will be a Movie folder. The 1080P videos are saved in a standard .MP4 format at 8479kbps with Audio recorded in the file as mono. 25Minutes of video is 1.5GB, so a large card will hold MANY hours, if needed. The W1 is great with image details all due to the SONY IMX307 2MP image sensor. In a single word, “AWESOME” and HIGHLY recommended. It has some of the best audio I’ve head from in a small single pin-hole MIC setup, almost no clipping and if it is very very loud, such as a concert the Automatic Gain will adjust so it will not distort the audio. WOW! It’s absolutely amazing for the price. The resolution test chart shows just how good the SONY lenses are.
