ITI –
Bought a pair for mirror, one drive shows 64 bad sectors after a week, but stable for months after that.
Sammy Miami –
HDD for enterprise applications. I used in RAID 5 NAS.
Michael D –
This is not a new product.
The product I received did not work and was not in manufacturer packaging.
It was scratched and the manufacture date was in 2017.
If Endless Technology Solutions is the seller, do not buy unless you intend to purchase a refurbished drive that may not work. (At a higher price than others selling remanufactured drives)
Timothy Larson –
Great Drives, no issues have them in Raid 5 configuration
Nomad –
I believe these drives are discontinued. Swallowed up by Western Digital. A historically reputable drive, however I bought 4 and one totally failed within 24 hrs of installation in my NAS.
D. Etchells –
I’ve used big HGST drives pretty much exclusively for years now, because they’ve been just dead-reliable. I did worry some, when Western Digital bought them out, and maybe this drive is an example. I test all new drives with repeated read/write tests that take about a week to complete on a drive this size (6TB), and this drive passed them just fine. I tested it and put it on the shelf until I put it in a Synology RAID box about two months ago. A few days back, the Synology server started complaining of excess bad blocks, and early this AM it took the drive out of the RAID array due to IO errors. It could be a one-off fluke, but other than one DOA and two failures of drives that were a couple of years old, this is the only HGST drive that’s failed like this on me. I have a couple of recently-purchased 10TB HGST drives that went through the burn-in tests and have been working fine as backup volumes for a few months now, so I guess I’ll stay with HGST, but this was a negative experience. (Not only that, but HGST wouldn’t accept the serial number for warranty replacement, but directed me back to the reseller Otoric. Not sure what that means; the drive wasn’t sold as a refurb…)
Joe Petrie –
I bought this to replace 3 (2 320gb and 1 160gb) internal hard drives and an external hard (500gb) drive I have setup on a computer build to run older games on new hardware.
JustMe3 –
Used 2 chassis of 12 drives each to create a SAS/SATA disk array under ZFS. Original creation was Sep 2010 using these enterprize class disk drives. This is the replacement for the first one to fail. Hot swappable drives were easy to physically replace then 1 command to rebuild the RAID6 array and then wait for normal maintenance re-silver. So absolutely no data lost and a good life time for these drives running 24/7/365 for over 10 years.
