El disco lo puse de entrada en un HUB UGREEN con el convertidor USB-A que viene incluido y la lectura era de aproximadamente 345 MB/s No tenรญa otro puerto USB-C libre en la Macbook Pro ya que tengo un Pen Display pero ya despuรฉs lo que hice fue conectar dicho Pen Display por HDMI en el HUB y conectar el SSD en el puerto USB-C de la mac y subiรณ a entre 687 a 745 MB/s en escritura y en lectura 763 MB/s lo que mejorรณ significativamente. Estoy muy contento con la unidad Crucial X8 SSD. Son 4TB, el material excelente, casi no se calienta . Muy recomendable!!

USB is such a confusion standard, I’ll categorize it as follows( year 2020 ):
USB 4(draft) = Thunderbolt 3 = 40Gbps
USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 = USB 3.2 = SuperSpeed USB 20Gbps = 20Gbps
USB 3.2 Gen 2 = USB 3.1 Gen 2 = USB 3.1 = SuperSpeed USB 10Gbps = 10Gbps
USB 3.2 Gen 1 = USB 3.1 Gen 1 = USB 3.0 = SuperSpeed USB = 5Gbps
So what we take here is an external SSD using USB 3.2 Gen 2(USB 3.1 old name) or simply call it 10Gbps as transfer speed.
Review:
The SSD is made of Aluminium as chassis and ruber on sides, there is a plastic band across the device as decorative with this SSD name and spec on it. there is only one USB-C 2 USB-C cable, with a USB-C 2 USB-A adapter on it. I tried shake it, no moving parts inside, And it’s a bit on heavy side as of external SSD.
It’s a world that technology keep shifting and changing, one thing keep evolving constantly is the pursuit of speed, or more precisely: transfer speed.
Since the era of NVME SSD, we have quite a lot selection of internal SSD speed range from 10-32Gbps (real world 3500MB/s). But the external storage always lack behind.
Crucial is one of the first kind release 10Gbps product while other brand like Samsung and Sandisk still sell 5Gbps product for the same price.
I tested mine with both native connection to MacBook Pro with thunderbolt3 using USB 3.1 and through USB 3.0 hub, it’s perfectly picked up in system management page and test result perfectly matching the tech specs.
USB 3.1 – 10Gbps – 920-960 MB/s in real world file transfer
USB 3.0 – 5Gbps – 420-430 MB/s in real world file transfer
I even tried using accompany USB-C to USB-A adapter and a USB-A to USB-C adapter to connect and reach the sam 10Gbps result, so it’s USB 3.1 definitely a speed bump over USB 3.0.
I tried a backup using Time Machine of 100G system to it, total time is 2 hours. the SSD surface barely feels the warm.
But to my surprise, this SSD doesn’t come with any LED indicator, so you don’t know if it’s work or not. consider it take such a big footprint on case, it’s almost unacceptable that there is no working condition LED.
Tl;DR:
Pros: Fast 10Gbps, $ for value, sleek design, sturdy build quality, 3 years warranty
Cons: No LED indicator, a little big large compare to Samsung, only one USB-C cable w/ USB-A adapter, no sheath for protection.

Iโve known the name Crucial for about as long as Iโve been in the computer business yet I canโt say for sure if I ever ordered from them by brand. I do know their reputation is good. Iโve been spending my spare hours cleaning up files on my endless array of hard drives and SSDโs, I just got finished cleaning 205,000 files and I have more to go. One of the pitfalls of being a professional photographer and cinematographer and running a business is managing a lot of data. Today I went to open an often used Excel file and guess what, it was gone. And it was a super important one. So I stopped everything and did something I have meant to do for a long time. Get this SSD to do continuous backups of those things that I absolutely canโt lose, ever. I do have a good manual backup routine, hence all those backup drives but what was missing is being able to keep a history of my work on a daily basis
I wanted something small that I could plug in to one of the USB-C ports of my Z2 G9, a very capable workstation. I have three such fast ports so no worries there. I didnโt need anything fancy or a cool belt lanyard or bright colors or lots of fluff ware and I donโt plan to drop it but there are no moving parts so that doesnโt concern me. What I did want is speeds keeping with the latest standards, because why not, and I wanted media thatโs as relatively safe as possible, which I will never believe is a hundred percent possible with any storage drive, disk or solid-state. I scoured as many tech articles as I could find and the X9 seems to be one of the most highly regarded there is. I avoid the brand that starts with s because it seems everything I buy from them I regret and I try not to do business with them.
THE NEED FOR SPEED
I stay miles away from any discussion having to do with speeds for a gadget like this. Itโs all a game with no winner. Itโs like saying my brother can run faster than some guy in Cincinnati or my Yugo is faster than yours. There is only one answer to storage media speed โ your speed will depend on stuff. Everybodyโs computers, phones, files, and everything else are different, and a bench test is just that, unless thatโs all youโre going to do with this thing. In real life the speed you get will depend on stuff. Knowing my workstationโs ports can support it I did do a quick test and found that I was able to achieve some fast read speeds. Then in real life I did a full backup using TrueImage and my overall average was about 203 mbps. Any other speedy capabilities of this device were pretty much wasted.
OH PLEASE
This is where I air my disappointments. Why is this thing plastic instead of aluminum or magnesium or titanium? Whatโs inside is three cents worth of silicon, couldnโt they spend another five cents on a decent case? And, what happened to including a basic version of some brand of backup software? I got the impression from their poorly done product page that they were saying they include Acronis, well they do but it is so stripped down that it is for all practical purposes worthless. They push hard on upgrading it, but itโs very clear that Acronisโ target client base is the IT departments of major corporations not us lowly consumers. The upgrade process went terribly, Unlike other software if you donโt pay the annual ransom they deactivate the whole product instead of letting you continue to use it. That subscription includes some questionable virus ware I donโt want or need, automatic renewal and worst of all it is set to allow them and anyone they sell your information to the right to spam you forevermore. And if you change your mind one second after paying for it youโre out of luck, they wonโt give you your money back. They also include a three month trial of some photo cloud storage app that I would never use for my client work because of privacy concerns. And oh yeah, they will give you a whole whopping month of Adobe if you give them a whole lot of private information and agree to get their ads pushed to you by email.
Storage Executive is another app you can download. I found it of dubious value, it features things that I can already do on my computer without having their app in the way, and by installing it you give them the right to automatically get access to your SSD for upgrades, this also is a privacy concern to me.
Although this review is for the SSD, if my intent is to use it as a backup device, I found it was necessary to discuss this companyโs poor choices when it comes to their embedded software apps. If you donโt use them this doesnโt apply to you.
YES NO MAYBE
The case is very lightweight and angular in shape, and very lightweight. If I bought this as my travel drive I would have been very disappointed that it is plastic. And I may have been disappointed that the included C-to-C cable is only a few inches long. But the cable is good quality, with strong strain reliefs and a robustly braided covering. I used a piece of #M Command tape to mount the drive to the bottom of my workstation where I could leave it permanently plugged in to a dedicated data port on the back of the computer. And I spent the thirty-nine bucks to get a paid version of TrueImage because it works for me. With my x9 mounted out of sight it is always plugged in and backing up, that was my intent when I bought this so overall I am fully satisfied.
Despite the things I wish they would fix how can I say no to this thing? Itโs a piece of functional gear that I need and it has a job to do. If it ends up not doing that job it goes back and I let the world know, wimple as that.

So I am including my benchmark. You will see that this drive is a bit slower than the other benchmarks and likely because I already have over a TB added to it. I have two devices on my 3.2 on board motherboard USB controller. Processor is i7 10700 and 32GB RAM. Write caching turned on.
This is about half as fast as my older internal NVME .M2 SSD and as you can see pretty much in line with other benchmarks and what I expected.
I set a goal to replace all spinners on my desktop except for one drive that I use as a backup. This was probably the easiest upgrade possible and I replaced my 2012 2TB USB 2.0 drive finally.
As for this drive it does not get hot at all. It is surprisingly heavy and solid feeling. I guess I am used to cheap crap these days, so feeling that the drive was made of great materials and had heft to it was very nice. It is extremely responsive but to be fair I haven’t done anything demanding.
I did turn on write caching before running the benchmark but I have no idea if that’s necessary as SSD’s are usually ๐ฅ in the performance department. If I ever start having issues with this drive I will update my review as drive failures are a huge pet peeve of mine. For now 5 stars. 30 years in IT, etc.
