I’m one of those weird people who doesn’t just use whatever sound output comes on my mobo. I’m always looking for better, cleaner audio when I game, Discord, listen to music on my PC, whatever. You just don’t know what you’re missing until you get a dedicated sound processor.

I can’t usually fit an internal sound card because my GPU always hogs like 20 slots. I used an X3 for years on my old gaming rig, but some of the nice features on this one prompted me to upgrade when I built my new rig.

I’m happy I did. The programmable buttons are great. I like being able to swap or combine outputs even easier than on my X3, and the audio quality is fantastic. My weak gaming headphones actually sound acceptable when plugged into this thing. That was also true of my X3. People can hear me very clearly online and I can tune my audio sources on the fly. Good stuff. I recommend.

Solid unit, easy to set. Sound quality is far superior to the base audio.

The mike control can be a bit sensitive, really picks up sound from outside of the expected range.

The only complaint I have would be the lack of a symbol/light showing whether it switched to speaker or headset.

Will admit, I do not use most of the features, works my gaming habit.

The EQ only cuts and boosts up to 9dB! That’s terrible! The old EQ had a 48dB range, cutting/boosting up to 24dB per band! I used to praise Creative for having a 31Hz band in their EQ and allowing it to be boosted up to 24dB. I love boosting the low bass for certain types of music. I got interested in this GC7 because of the C1-C4 preset buttons because I wanted to quickly recall custom EQ settings for different genres of music. Because of the narrow range of adjustment, it’s totally useless.

Creative, please add back your plus, minus 24dB range of adjustment, and while you’re at it, add in a 16Hz band to the EQ and/or add a few parametric bands as well (adjustable center frequency and bandwidth Q with at least a cut and boost range of plus, minus 24dB per control) with a lower limit going down to 10Hz.

Also, there also seems to be a bug in the bass and treble controls. For example, if I turn up the bass and then turn it back down to zero, the 31Hz band remains around -1dB. If I turn it all the way down and then turn it back to the center, the 31Hz band is boosted 1dB. It should be at 0dB if I center the control. The same thing happens with the treble control but to the 16kHz band.

The other thing with the bass and treble controls is that it affects several bands in the EQ (with bass affecting up to 1kHz!), and if I make any individual adjustments to certain bands, they’re lost if I set the bass or treble to the highest or lowest settings. For example, if I set the 31Hz band at +3dB and I turn the bass all the way down, if I recenter the bass control, the 31Hz band is no longer at +3dB. Ideally, the bass and treble controls would be their own controls, not affecting the EQ settings. In fact, the best thing would be to give them an adjustable shelf frequency because not everyone likes the midbass boosted when they want the bass boosted.

Right now I’m using a Sound Blaster X-Fi SB1095, and I just love that the EQ gives me a plus/minus 24dB range of adjustment, so again Creative, please bring this back to your EQs for all your sound cards. I will keep buying your sound cards if you do this!

I consider myself as a gamer and audiophile, While having a Focal Utopia speakers in my living room, I chose Audeze LCD-GX as my main gaming headset.

I was looking for a solution that will allow me to switch between my casual desktop speakers and the headset, while giving a drive & quality boost to my Audeze as it’s a shame to use such headphones with my onboard soundcard.

So basically – the gc7 exceeded my expectations, it sounds great, gives you a proper control of the sound and even have 4 programmable buttons, by default one of them is switching between outputs which was awesome.

+ I was very impressed by the Scout Mode as it’s giving an advantage (hearing steps and hints louder and giving the sound more ‘dramatic’ feel).
+ Bass, Treble, Mic, Surround effect controls on the fly
+ variety of inputs and outputs
    + Solid Creative software

    – Super SXFI sounds dull even with the ear scanning mobile software
    – A upper metal plate would bump up the design that feels somewhat ‘plasticy’

Purchased when I upgrade to 250ohm DT770 Pro headphones. Was not sure if the device could power the headphones to their full range, but wanted the functionality of tuning out voice-chat with a knob-turn. The programmable buttons are nice, though a bit limited. The SuperXFI software was easy to install, though not much use for my purpose. There is an AUX port in the front and back, so you can plug your speakers and headset in. The headset is still prioritized when connected.

    – Great Sound improvement, though I know it’s not pushing enough for 250ohm headphones
    – FPS gaming, I can hear footsteps from a DISTURBING distance in games now. Feels like cheating sometimes, its that good.
    – Music-wise, I’m no audiophile, but I hear things much clearer and crisply than before. The BASS boost is nice. Elevated my desktop speakers which was a nice surprise.

If you are an audiophile, this may not be good enough. If you just want to wreck people in games and care more about chat/volume functionality mid-game, DO IT.

The 7.1 surround marketing is worse than just a gimmick and actually destroys game sound. When I first received this, I loaded up YouTube music, and was impressed with the clarity albeit with a fairly low max volume – even when set to high gain.
The next day I then tried a couple games, and when the mode is set to 7.1 or 5.1 and the audio quality is windows is set to the maximum for this device (24 bit) and there is a lot going on in the game then you hear a lot of crackling sound. For example: DCS World, if you start up and you are on an airfield by yourself, the audio sounds great during the entire experience. As soon as you repeat this but with multiple aircraft all near each other, it’s as though the multiple audio sources confuse the GC7 and the sounds become corrupt.
This also happens in other games (not all).

    Will be returning.

A software update actually fixed all of my previous issues. SO if you are having these issues, simply update.

Many Apple silicon Mac owners experience issues with Creative external sound cards because of bad quality of Creative drivers (which Creative app wants to download and install when you need to use Acoustic engine and some other features). I was surprised to find out that GC7 does NOT require any extra downloads, and Acoustic engine (as well as any other optional modules) is available instantly once you install Creative app. I think it’s because this card has dual DSPs so everything is hardware-based (unlike G3, X4, X5, etc). I’ve never experiences any issues with GC7 caused by bad drivers (like static, audio cuts out, etc). It works flawlessly on my Mac Studio with M2 Max CPU so I believe it’s the best choice for Apple Silicon Mac users!

Sound quality is good but not as good as Sennheiser GSX1200. The game/voice knob is useless. The 4 buttons in front are just ridiculous because I’m supposed to remember what C1,2,3,4 is? I only use C4 and I remember C1 just switches sound modes but doesn’t tell you which mode it’s on. Poor design. Also Super-xfi sounds like trash. I just use the 7.1 with headphones instead.
