I was easy to install and included what I needed to do so. I recommend the dvd player!
I installed the Nero Essentials that came with it and tried to play a DVD. I could see video but there was no sound. When I tried to open Nero settings to figure it out, the app kept sending me to their website to buy their product. Eventually I downloaded and installed a free version of Nero from their website and the sound issue was solved.

I finally got this DVD writer (LG model #GH24NSC0) set up so it plays movies etc. as it is intended to. I am running Windows 10 and I Initially had to run a “repair” sequence on Windows in order for it to work properly. The only thing I was concerned about is that the DVD Writer makes a few “clicking” sounds on bootup. This, according to LG’s technician, is normal. So far, my build, including the DVD Writer, is running perfectly. Although I was prepared to give this item a lower rating, because the price was very fair, and LG’s technicians have been so helpful, I am giving it five stars.

Awesome and fast drive! Quiet, too. Hooked up in a flash, power and connection cords were included (bonus!).
Be aware though, that the Nero software is only a TRIAL VERSION, although nowhere on the ad (from which I purchased) mentioned this, and is the only reason I got this particular one from this particular seller (Platinum Micro, Inc.) as other sellers had the Drive at a little lower price. Although when I did call them (Platinum Micro, Inc.) to ask about the version discrepancy (the picture on the ad does not state it is a Trial Version, but the CD I got clearly did), they did allow me a small credit on my purchase, for which I was entirely satisfied with. If getting a full version of this bundled software is important to you, I suggest you contact and confirm with the seller before you buy this Drive whether it is or is not a Trial Version.
As far as the Drive itself goes, it plays/burns perfectly, and at top speed. Am completely happy with my new Drive, and wouldn’t hesitate to purchase this brand/model number again.

What is “sheerness”? Ditto for “thickness”?
I don’t CDR / DVDR very often. My use is cyclical like when the PC that I built is new, or has been upgraded; usually to burn software such as a newer or different ‘flavor’ of Linux. Every damn time I have a problem either with the DVDR / CDR drive or the software. In the last 20 years my far I have replaced or installed more optical drives than any other hardware, bar none.
This time has been as usual, and I am very frustrated, as usual. My ‘coaster’ to ‘useable, good burn’ is like 10 to 15 ‘coasters’ to one that was successful.
So for now I am doing without even trying to use this drive. I’ll go back to futzing with it when I have more time; and after I purchase more DVD’s. I ran out after 12 ‘ coasters’ in a row’. Don’t know if this new version of Nero is what I am having problems with or not. But I am pretty sure it’s not the drive itself.
I upped my RAM from 4GB to 12GB as part of this upgrade, which was I include a return to a Linux 64-bit OS. Been stuck on Tiny-Win7 32-bit and never installed Linux (again) when I first built this box 5 years ago. Yeah, the frustration with the DVD writer that time, too; 1TB on 4 SATA drives (was planning on doing RAID with a pair of them, which didn’t work out. Too different than setting up a Fast Track 66 card / software as I used with my 2008 build PC, so out of frustration in 2015 I opted out of RAID.)
Sorry, strayed far from doing a hardware review. But now I am stuck without even being able to take advantage of the RAM I just installed! Barely eeking out 3GB of usable RAM due to a 32-bit Windows OS; Firefox sucks now with only having 3 GB of RAM. Honestly though, the only place I am having issues is with YouTube; too many videos in the queue waiting to be viewed. I guess my eyes are bigger than my ability to restrain myself from pre-selecting too many videos in a sitting. But I will get beyond it in a month or two, once I get beyond this DVD / software issue; and can burn a more modern OS. Yeah, I should have gone Win10 5 years ago, but stuck with 7 instead; with unrealized plans to get back to Linux. (Had Linux on dual or triple boot until 2015 and never got it installed since.) And @ 71 yo I have become more of a “user” than even a late adapter, which has been the case for like the last 12 years or so.

I ordered this to replace the original OEM part in a compact desktop computer. It was an exact fit and works perfectly. Replacement was easy and only took about ten minutes. It came with the cables and software I would need if building a PC, or adding an additional drive, but since I was replacing one, I didn’t need the extra hardware and software. I recommend this drive, and would purchase again.

Works just fine. It is an OEM product meaning that it does not come in retail packaging or with instructions. The software with it is a trial version according to the disc, but a label on the back of the disc sleeve says it doesn’t expire but is a reduced feature version compared to the full version. I can’t say what that means exactly because I don’t use Nero.

The speed is good , The software Nero 12 should not be installed, Malware /junk also wants you install a hijack browser .called ask. its totally malware and takes over your PC and browser. products great, take the Nero 12 CD and through in the trash can, has nothing to do with CD player/ at all. Nero is malware.

I am building a new desktop and want a DVDRW drive. I had a new retail boxed Plextor with lightscribe (Great drive) in a prior build which is about 9 years old and still runs great. I used the old Plextor in the new build and placed the new LG in the old desktop to fill its slot. It is recognized and works. The LG is essentially a bare drive (Not boxed/retail) with some extras (screws, cables and Nero 12 essential disc). I don’t know if the Nero software is any good yet. The disc says “Trial version bundled with OEM hardware only”, but the envelope has a sticker that says “This trial version will NOT EXPIRE after 30 Days”. The old Plextor came with Nero 9 essential full utility. If I knew the LG was not retail/boxed, I would have likely opted for a bare LiteON or ASUS, but the LG works well so far.

Good value burner. I’ve given this burner a pretty good workout since purchasing it and there has been no issues whatsover. It’s reasonably fast and quiet. The ability to burn DVD M-disks is really nice. Very happy with this burner.
