I unknowingly bought this DvD/Rom twice. The first time I bought it was for a new computer I had built. It would not work when attempting to boot Win 7 to install the OS. I had to use another CD Rom to do this. After the system was installed and everything set I tried to use the DVD/Rom yet again. The player seem to have issues so it was returned.
Wanting a Blu Ray player / DvD burner I ordered again. I’ve had much better luck with the second DvD/Rom. How ever if you wish to watch blu rays it does not come with software to do so. So if your buying this to watch blu rays be prepared to fork out another $40 for software to watch it.
Blu ray software —- The software I found was called Aurora. Not available on Amazon but you can download it off there site and test it for free. Good to verify you Blu ray is working.

This is a great drive for anyone who uses their computer everyday and doesn’t like the hassle of having to move the family console every time they need to watch their quickly expanding blu-ray collection. As a long time fan boy for vlc media player i was sad to realise before buying this drive that vlc does not have blu-ray support. This is a great drive but to get the most out of it i would highly recommend something like Power DVD 14 Ultra. This software means I can not only watch my blu-rays and DVDs on my computer but also has great support for returning to exactly the same location on a disk if you have to swap it out of the drive at a moments notice. This drive is definitely quiet, I have no clue how quiet because the rest of my system is an awful lot louder but this drive will definitely not ruin the quality of your viewing even with your pc positioned right beside your head up on your desk like mine.

特に問題なく機能しています。
駆動音は静かではありませんが、全体の中でどの程度に位置するかはわかりません。
以前、使っていたLGのDVDドライブよりはだいぶ静かになりました。

Using this in an Ubuntu Linux system and it works great now that I have all of the appropriate libraries installed. My kids tend to destroy all of their discs so I need electronic copies. I am in the process of ripping both DVD and Blu-ray movies to use with my Plex server using MakeMKV and/or Handbrake. Unfortunately, a few of our movies are so scratched up that this drive was unable to rip copies, but these same discs also fail/skip in other blu-ray and DVD players so this drive isn’t at fault. However, it was able to handle some discs that I thought it would fail on.
The drive came with a SATA cable and some power converters, which I didn’t need but they were a pleasant surprise. It’s definitely not silent, but it is quieter than my old DVD-ROM. I feel like it is loud at first, but then once it starts spinning at a constant speed things quiet down a bit.
Great value for the price.

This drive works quite well on DVD and Blu-ray disks, BUT it is very slow when it comes to CD’s. It writes CD’s at only 4x and reads at 12x, not the 40x claimed by Pioneer. I originally ordered this to replace my $20 Samsung drive that works great on CD and DVD but didn’t have Blu-ray capability. However this Pioneer’s CD performance is so bad, I’m now using my old Sansung drive (which really does 40x on CD’s) in addition to this one. If you don’t use CD’s for viewing photos or booting your system, then this drive might be okay for you.
I’m running Win 7 64-bit on a Dell Precision T3400 in case it might be of help to others.

I bought this Blu-Ray drive to play Blu-Ray discs on my projector, which I have set up to my computer. The physical set up was pretty easy and fast. Then, I configured VLC (open source, so totally free) so that it can play Blu-Ray discs. If you want to do this, see my directions below. Once set up, I watched the Planet Earth series on Blu-Ray, and it was beautiful! The drive played smoothly without skipping or waiting at all, and it was completely quiet. The only thing I regret is not paying a bit extra to get the Pioneer drive that can also write Blu-Rays.
Setting up VLC to play Blu-Rays:
Google “play blu ray on VLC” to get a few useful links. You will want to see two of them.
1) If you don’t have VLC, download and install it here: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html
2) Next, go to the link: http://vlc-bluray.whoknowsmy.name/
From there, you will need to download the key database and the AACS dynamic library
Make sure you get the correct version (32 or 64 bit)
3) Check out the YouTube tutorial at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZAbZQDOOio
After you have copied both of those files to the correct location, open VLC.
Under “Media” click “Open Disc…”
Click on “BluRay”
Change the “Disc device” to the appropriate drive (after obviously first inserting the disc)
Click “Play”

Buyer beware: This drive died on its third use, and Pioneer Electronics has been a nightmare to work with from a warranty stand point, I am currently at day 47 without a blu-ray drive, and Pioneer has told me they have no timetable on when I will receive a replacement.
I bought this drive back in October of 2014 for a custom built computer. I only used it twice in the first couple months and it worked as advertised.
Come Christmas 2014, we received quite a few blu-ray movies since the computer was now blu-ray capable. The first week of January, I tried playiig a couple of the movies. Nothing was detected. It no longer detected CDs, DVD, or BD media. I called Pioneer and was given clear instructions on how to handle sending it into their warranty center. All was well up to this point.
13 days after I sent it in, and 7 days after It had been received- I still hadn’t received any acknowledgment of it being received or a repair order #. I had to contact them to get that information. No huge deal, but still annoying. On February 18th, I see that the repair status has been listed as ‘complete’. Great! Well, a week later and it still hadn’t been sent out. So I contacted them again.
“It shows it was complete because your unit was scrapped. We processed a
replacement unit and that should be shipping out shortly.”
that was on February 27th.
So I contacted them again, today on March 6th, 8 days later, to check on the status once again.
Pioneer’s response: “We unfortunately don’t have any exact matches of your unit stateside, therefore we are still waiting to receive more of your units before we can send a replacement. However, there was a strike at the port, and we are trying to move product, but we have no time table on when that will happen”
So basically, we are approaching 50 days without a disc drive or BD player- and pioneer still hasn’t sent us a replacement unit. I don’t even care if its the same unit! I just want to play blu-ray discs!

Exactly what it says on the box, there’s not a lot to go wrong with it, it’s an e book for heavens sake!

Works perfectly, quiet too !
