With SATA Interface is a two plug 5 minute install, some complain about needing software, cables etc which means they do not understand SATA and have no business messing around inside their computer.
Works beautifully and seamlessly like I expected. The first internal DVD recorder I have had that accurately demonstrates layer-break anomalies on a poorly recorded DVD DL.
My only concern was that it was poorly packaged, with little cushioning but appears to work well and will give it contiuous use over the next 30 days.
Have always had good luck with ASUS – their products seem to run forever.

Optical drives are consumable items. They’re apparently not made to last. I can understand that the optics would get dusty, but optical drives have a short life and often can’t be resurrected by cleaning the optics.
This ASUS was an inexpensive quick fix. I was back up in a few minutes and it’s been good about playing just about any CD or DVD, including those from other burners.

These are usually my go-to drives when I have clients that need replacements or I’m in need of one myself. These are quite a bit louder than the LG drives I’ve spec’d out and used in the past, but these ASUS drives generally work well and do the job they’re asked to perform.
It is important to note that this version of the drive is sold in two separate packages here on Amazon: the bare drive (this package) and an OEM drive. While both packages contain the same drive, this bare drive package includes only the drive and a CD in an antistatic bag and does not include a SATA cable. The OEM package comes in retail packaging and includes a SATA cable. If you need the cabling to connect the drive to your motherboard, you should choose the OEM package. If you already have a SATA cable to spare, the package sold here will be sufficient for your needs.

I built a new computer and had to replace my old CDROM because the new motherboards no longer have the old ATA interface. I tried to used a ATA to SATA adapter but that did not work. The drive works great.

I bought this as a replacement for the drive in my neighbors computer. That drive had somehow exploded a disk into hundreds of small fragments that damaged the heads, jammed the drawer, and stalled the spindle so that the motor failed. It couldn’t get much deader.
This was at a good price on an excellent brand, arrived on time, installed easily, and is running fine for him. I’d buy again if I needed another.
I have a little over $600 in Asus products in my personally assembled computer. Whatever they build is quality.

My old drive was ripping at about 4X. I was redoing my whole CD collection and it would’ve taken til next Spring. This Asus drive ripped at almost 10X the old speed. Love it. Quick at making copies, too.

Works well but the DVD tray doesn’t slide all the way out and sometimes I have to pull it some to retrieve the CD/DVD.
Foster’s Old Boy –
It arrived on time, but did not fit the computer for which it was obtained. That computer was just too old.
However it fitted in our Vibox, and with the help of the local shop (supplying extra cables) it works fine.
Fast & easy to operate, it downloaded the drivers while I was wondering what to do next!

I am ordinarily reluctant to purchase anything from an “OEM Bulk” dealer, even when a name-brand product because I and friends have encountered some disreputable outfits (example: selling video cards as new when they were cryptominer cast-offs). However, the reviews for this particular drive were so positive I decided to gamble. Installation was straight forward and as expected. It is a real ASUS 24F1ST and performs every task I’ve put to it with speed and accuracy. I’m getting such confidence in it that I’m considering using it for archiving, something that I’ve wanted to do in the past. Solid build with no unusual sound levels. It has read all media I’ve dropped into it without difficulty. I have not used any of the for-fee software available, so I can’t comment on whether any compatibility issues arose with them but so far my free stuff has worked without a hiccup. I know many users believe the day of CD/DVD is passed – after all, the internet never crashes, servers are always available, and you never need to reinstall a program in the middle of a business crisis.
