the product was good as expected , i’m using for my desktop as well as laptop , i didn’t run any operating system to try with desktop for booting purpose or installing O.S , but it will work , so no problem with the device , the data cable was enough distance to connect the desktop or laptop , the cons : data cable should be 3.0 usb type , so the device can work more faster , body should be improved , when i checked the body i thought it was metal body , but it was plastic fibre , price should be low ,so i hope next version would be better , over all ok , but HP should improve alot in design segment !!!

Very well built, easy to use, plugged it into my HP laptop and worked without the need to install or download drivers and without errors,
played DVD movies, MUSIC CDs and burned a couple of DVDs fast and easy.

I love HP products for quality and this drive is no exception. Excellent read speed. The cable provided is not very long ( aprx. 1 ft) but is sufficient for most purposes. On Windows 7 and above it’s just plug n’ play for reading/writing DVDs. Be sure to place the drive on flat surface and do not move the drive when it is connected to computer/laptop to avoid damage. The provided DVD writing software is adequate for most purposes. I simply use default windows in-built DVD writer so can’t say much about the software. Overall really satisfied.

After three months, the drive got some code 19 problem and stopped working. I tried to uninstall it and reinstall but it just won’t work. I paid a lot for this drive when others are cheaper and I am past the Amazon 1 month policyy on returns so I just ate $80. In checking online, I can not update the driver software on HP. If you are looking to overpay and get screwed, this is the drive for you.

The drive works great. It reads and write as I expected. I have two complaints about it:
1) The USB cable attached to the drive is only about 9.50 inches long, not a whole lot. A 20 inch cable would be decent.
2) The HP Slimline computer I have WILL NOT boot with this HP USB CD-DRIVE. I tried opening up the BIOS and it appears I don’t have any control over whether to bypass booting the drive.
I got this USB drive because the CD drive installed in my HP (the slimline model) was installed with a really cheap CD drive that would not allow you to use the drive if the PC was setup in the standup position as the casing was built for it to be. So everytime I need to use its internal CD drive, I would have to lay the PC down where the HP logo is turned 90 degrees clockwise. Anyway, if anyone had the same problem and figured out how to get the PC to boot with this drive plugged in, please let me know.

Extremely good product.
I have burn almost 15 dvd(s) back to back in first day I brought it and there is not even single complain about it. It is silent, it is compact, it is handy to use, no heating issue after burning that much dvd(s). I am totally satisfied. And moreover we get a burning software of cybelink. As well as we get other editing and all software of cybelink. Some of them are lite versions though, u have to pay for that full version. But that was not a problem. Its look is also so much attractive. Its connecting wire is mini usb port and have enough length.

Got this as my laptop did not have a optical drive and i am not a cloud person ( Don’t want a big online footprint).
PROS: neat, tight package.
Amazon did an incredible job. No damage to the equipment.

don’t know about other laptops, but my laptop is HP and this device automatically synced with my laptop. No installation issues

This looks, feels and IS delicate. Please be careful while handling it
Use an absolutely flat surface while using it.
It makes more noise than my laptop cooling fans. But for me, i like the whine….Sounds like the drive has a turbo.

Works fine! I have used it, and it serves most of my needs. Wish it would play
DVD’s/CD’s. Oh, well! You get what you pay for I guess. It is compact.
It will do for my needs! I will use it sparingly! It is just nice to have one if you
need to DVDRW/DVD-ROM/DVD Drive anything! So far it has worked just fine!
It performs as promised! Cool product for the price!

I purchased this DVD drive, as opposed to some of the other less expensive ones, because it is an HP product and I’m using it with an HP Sleekbook. All I had to do was to connect it to the USB and within seconds, I was able to use it. Very easy!! No problems whatsoever!!

I love this drive since its very quick and very quite along with very portable all in one device . Its very hard to find stuff like this off of other websites . So If you get a chance to own more than one of them its okay to do that if you lend out stuff to people you know daily .
