4 months in and this printer has worked really well for my new engineering firm. 11×17 double-sided printing lets me print off check sets of drawings cost-effectively. It is quite a bit faster than I was expecting and the print quality has been more than adequate for my needs (mostly printing structural and architectural drawings in B&W and color on 11×17 paper, forms on 8.5×11, and bank checks on 8.5×11 high-security check paper). The 2 large trays for letter and 11×17 paper are great. The duplex ADF scanner works well, and it integrates with Dropbox. I don’t print from my phone often, but it worked pretty simply too. Nice big ink tanks that look like they’ll last a while. The touchscreen menu is large and easy to operate. So far, my only complaint has been that the bypass tray tends to feed sheets unevenly, so printing check from the bypass tray came out skewed slightly. But putting my check paper in the regular letter tray works well for that. Printing business cards requires using the bypass tray, so I do have to seat each page of cards carefully to get them to feed correctly. But otherwise, I’m very happy with it.

I finally bought Brother MFC-J6955DW after also debating for some time to buy Epson, HP or Canon. I have been using Epson multi-function inkjet printers and my current unit is ~10 years old.
I wanted a new printer that is also capable of printing good quality Ledger-size photos and my expectations have been exceeded. This is especially more so for a 4-colour ink tank printer. The other brands would have cost considerable more for quality Ledger-size photos.
The touchscreen is somewhat small for my fingers, but I can change settings through a browser to its built-in web portal. I also had an initial setup problem with the printer being detected by Brother iPrint&Scan software, but their Technical Support helped me to resolve the problem.

OK, below is my ORIGINAL post for the printer we purchased in August 2023, which was nothing but problems from day one, spent over 500 dollars in ink. (SEE MY ORIG POST BELOW) After several online sessions with their upper level tech support, and trying all the deep “secret” menu tests, they finally agreed that it was indeed a LEMON. They did not want it back, so we dropped at a recycle facility. The REPLACEMENT printer, same model, seems to work PERFECTLY so far. No hourly cleaning, and no partial colors (could not even get a deep black on the lemon machine) SO…if you have a problem similar to mine, DO NOT HESITATE to ring the support line and jump through their hoops as it seems they actually honor their product. After using this POS for a couple months, it is DRINKING the ink, very poor for a new machine. The cleaning cycle runs EVERY DAY…we only print maybe 20 pages per day, the ink is gone so fast.
Ink is VERY expensive for this printer. The so called year of ink turned out to be less than 2 weeks. I complained to Brother and they sent me a set of cartridges which have lasted less than a month. WE ARE NOW ON THE THIRD SET OF CARTRIDGES WITH THIS INK HOG…COSTING US OVER $100 PER MONTH SO FAR…AND WE DO NOT NOT NOT PRINT MORE THAN NORMAL DAILY USE OF 20-40 PAGES. Example today the black was not printing clearly so another cleaning dropped the usage based total left from 750 to 300 pages. I will be only buying generic cartridges at 1/3 the cost…warranty be darned. WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER BROTHER PRINTER. BUYER BEWARE THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE LESSON>

Very fast & easy to set up. WiFi was immediate and no complex settings. Just put in SSID and Password and it worked immediately. Fast printer, double sided and 11×17 if needed. Copies fast as well. Have not tried scanning yet. No monthly subscription like HP. But has “auto-order” for genuine Brother Ink, cheaper than elsewhere (let the reader understand)!

This printer is a replacement for my 10 year+ old 11×17 inkjet Brother printer that a power surge killed. This one is DEFINITLEY and upgrade. So much faster, easy printing from my phone, excellent print to edge with no wet ink warping (even on plain paper). Plus double sided scanning on the ADF and it works very well. Even the scanning was better. Very happy with the printer. Even the setup was better. A Brother new printer setup with all the software downloads and all is probably longer than most other printers but it was much faster and easier than my old printer. Only two complaint are 1 – wish it came in black (my old one was black and it matched better all my black CPU and monitor housings). 2 – Wish the Brother printer names were shorter and more memorable. I keep telling folks about my new printer but the model names are too long (yah, I know. First world problems…)

Do not buy if you are looking for a space saving printer – this one is big. For the money, however, the features and performance so far are terrific. Printing is very fast, and the quality is super. No issue getting onto my 5G home network.
Scanning is impressive, and even has ability to scan directly to your mobile device or cloud. I had it scan receipts directly to my phone as a PDF, and also directly into Google Drive – it created it’s own folder.
You an even create shortcuts for the most used feature with settings. It’s going to take me a while to explore all of the features.
For the cost of just over $400, I do not feel there is anything else that compares for a small home office setup. Previously had another brank “tank” printer, and had nothing but connection issues back to my PC. Seemed every time I wanted to scan, I had to unplug printer and reboot PC. So far, Brother seems to be flawless – even from sleep mode.
Will see how long the ink lasts – did a few prints on 11 x 17 as well as borderless – much better than my previous printer.
Purchased this one with my own $$ – no free product – I am an actual user, and so far it’s nothing but thumbs up. To me, the quality of construction, materials, screen and just fit and finish is on par with more traditional Office grade equipment versus just a “home” printer.
