I bought this because I have bought dozens of HP products over two decades and they have all been excellent products which were very well built and lasted a long time. I wanted to scan literally hundreds of family photos. I tried for about 30 minutes, but the feeder never worked. It never fed a single photo. So, I turned it back in and bought an Epson 680 FastFoto. It works like a charm. I have scanned hundreds of photos. Very quick and easy to use.

Cuando la conecto, no la reconoce. He tenido que instalarla 2 veces.
No me respeta el formato que deseo. Aunque en el panel del escaner tiene opciรณn de PDF y JPG, al escanear solamente me da la opciรณn de JPG. Se puede cambiar esta configuraciรณn?

My 6-year-old flatbed scanner died last summer, and I couldn’t be happier.

Oh, I grumbled a lot, procrastinated about replacing it, and worked around its absence in clumsy ways like smartphone photos of documents I needed to email. But as an author of heavily illustrated textbooks, I couldn’t put things off much longer. With a new book about to launch, I was going to need one soon, so I bit the bullet and bought the HP ScanJet Pro 2500 f1.

So much has happened to scanners in this price bracket since I bought the last one–or else I just couldn’t get them at that time for a price I was comfortable with. I’m a bit of a techno-klutz (I’m still trying to figure out how to program my VHS VCR), but software installation on my iMac was easy-peasy. If I just want to quickly scan a single-page document on the platen or a multipage one through the document feeder, operation is a simple matter of two buttons on the scanner: Power and Scan. No need even to boot up the software; it comes up automatically. If I want to do something a little more sophisticated, though, the software offers a lot of flexibility and is still easy.

The document feeder takes up to 50 pages at a time. If the pages are printed on both sides (duplex), the scanner automatically recognizes that and captures both sides in a single pass. My royalty statements come in paper form, printed two-side in landscape format with one side upside-down relative to the other. The scanner recognizes that, inverts the upside-down ones, and generates a multipage PDF with all pages upright. The searchable PDFs it produces (through Optical Character Recognition, OCR) are going to enable me to discard a mountain of paper by converting big documents to PDF. If I need to scan a multipage bound item such as a research journal article where I have to turn pages and lay them on the platen one at a time, the scanner can still make a single PDF of that. If I need to send my editor a photo or color sketch of an art concept, I can use the scanner to automatically generate an email (or to generate a JPEG which I then attach to an email–but the automatic email generation is quicker).

In the first few days of use, I’ve found so much I can now do at home with this for which I used to have to make a run to campus or a copy center. This scanner simplifies my life in ways my old one didn’t. There’s still more that I have yet to explore and play around with.

I love the two-button simplicity of basic single- and multipage scanning–as easy as my photocopier–combined with the many options I get through the software driver. A great work tool.

Purchased b/c of COVID 19 and the stay at home directive. Running OS 10.15.3. The scanner comes with CD’s which you need if you are running a Windows operating system. If you have a MAC, you connect the scanner to your MAC via the supplied USB cord and download 2 pieces of software. Do NOT download both at the same time. Rather, download the first set of drivers, install it and then go back to the HP support web page and download the second software patch. Trying to download both concurrently failed twice for me; the “one download at a time” worked fine. Once you install both sets of software from HP, the scanner is good to go. The scans are great, the speed (if that matters) is fast enough for a home machine. It has a modest footprint and so it is easy to set up in your home office. I wish it was bluetooth enabled, but alas it is not so the only “hassle” is connecting the scanner to your MAC before you initiate the scan. Other than that, drama free.

Bought this as a replacement for a Canon USB scanner which finally died after about 20 years. The scanner works right out of the box. I installed the enclosed software, hooked up the scanner, and was back in business. The software is intuitive, and the scanner can do multiple sheets, and can scan one or double sided if you use the feeder. Quality of the scans so far are good. It seems to be well built. I have had good experience with HP products, and I expect this scanner will last a good while.

I bought this for the office since my partner and I needed to upload a case file to the computer. It took several minutes to figure out. You can set your own settings as to where you want your stuff to go and where someone else’s stuff can go. My bosses were not too happy that I bought it because we had one of those “regular” scanners that scan 1 document at a time!! Surprisingly, they’ve used this evil contraption. Why? Because it’s so much easier!! Make sure you check the documents before scanning. If you don’t think it will go through automatically, the scan it separate.

PRO: It’s a breeze scanning documents. You can set up a custom folder per se – documents will go to a specific folder automatically once you saved the scan. You can preview the scan, delete, and rotate prior to saving.
CON: When it gets an error or something doesn’t scan right, it will show an error message and you have to turn it off/on in order to clear it.
If anyone knows of a better way to fix that issue, I’m eager to learn. It’s so frustrating sometimes.

I have one of these at work and knew I wanted this model for home. Yes, sometimes it isn’t always the greatest at feeding the paper without a little babysitting, but it doesn’t happen all the time once you figure out how to meet its needs. I have scanned many items and am pleased with the quality it gives me. One of the things that sold me on it was how user-friendly it is. All of the software features are easily understood and provide convenience in working with documents and photos. I like the feature that allows it to read both sides in one feed. Being able to add additional scans to what was just scanned is a great feature for me. Even removing a jammed document is simple. I suggest once you’ve installed the unit and loaded the software that you re-start your computer. It has a tendency to not recognize the scanner until you do. Make sure you turn the scanner on before you click the scanner icon or you’ll get the same message. It’s a little annoying but no biggie. If you’ve dealt with difficult scanners before, you’ll find this one to be a relief and a joy.
