This router is not for the faint of heart. It’s not a ‘plug-and-play’ out-of-the-box type of device. You’ll need to go to MikroTik’s website, use their wiki pages, and get familiar with RouterOS to set this thing up properly. If you’re an IT professional and understand networking, you won’t have any issues setting this up.
It’s a fully managed, 10-port switch with PoE on port #10. It has an SFP slot is you want to add a module for an extra gigabit RJ45 connection or a fiber link. The wireless operates on 2.4G and / or 5G bands with full customization of the SSIDs and security. It supports VPN, firewall rules, routing tables, VLAN tagging, and more. Search up their website for full specifications.
Running a speed test, it’s hitting 1 to 2% CPU utilization and consistently hits 700 to 800 Mbps with my provider. That’s the max I’ve been able to get from any routers I’ve tested so far.

Lan is great. Handles lan perfectly. Wi-Fi couldn’t be slower. Have no idea why. Maybe defective maybe not. I’m waiting to here back from microtik to find out what’s up, but this device out of the box does not do 1gb wifi. Definitely doesn’t do 1.7. terrible wifi. Get the router only option and use a separate WiFi access point.

Bought this to replace a 4 year old Mikrotik hAP ac that had been acting up. I’m very pleased. It does run hot, been stable at 41 C, but haven’t had any issues with performance, and doesn’t seem to be varying any. The room I have it in isn’t particularly warm, so I think it just runs hot. It is acting as my primary home office/household router and the speed and stability have been much better than the previous hAP I had been using. Wireless range is about the same, but that is, in my opinion, primarily client limited. Originally I got a unit where the first 5 ethernet ports were dead, but the replacement unit has worked fine since I got it and set it up. Set up is the same as any other Mikrotik product. There have been some complaints on the forums about wireless stability, but I have WMM enabled and haven’t had any issues, and significantly better than my previous router was.

I live surrounded by many 2.4 GHz wifi signals, which resulted in pretty poor performance of my wifi, and often it would just stop working. I was hoping that this router will run them over by having much stronger 2.4GHz signal.
While it works OK at 2.4 GHz, noise still reduces wifi throughput a lot, although it’s working stable. The real pleasant surprise, however, is performance at 5GHz. It’s great – the router is at the edge of the house, not at best place at all, yet it covers the entire house with great throughput (e.g. over 10 Mbps, and full 40 Mbps if closer to the router). With 2.4 the best I can get is 5-6 Mbps, and often only 1Mbps depending on location. 5Ghz also seems to have shorter latency.
The built quality is something I have never seen in any other router. Really, really good, with heavy metal on top that I suppose works as a passive cooler.

I am a fairly advanced user of and I have barely scratched the surface of what this router can do.
Very steep learn curve for someone with limited experience with a router like this though. If you’ve never dealt with an enterprise level device, you can get in over your head fast.

This thing is a beast! I saturated my gigabit connection both ways simultaneously using two PCs and there’s only 25-30% load on the router. This router will serve me well in the next few years while WPA3 and 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) is still being rolled out. I wonder if Mikrotik can push out a software update that will enable WPA3 in the distant future?
Unfortunately, the RB4011 carries an inferior switch chip (RTL8367) than its predecessor, RB3011 (QCA8337). If you don’t need to do any crazy VLAN switching, HW-based rule table, etc. then this router will serve you fine. It also doesn’t have any USB ports….
Before you connect this thing to the Internet, *please* change your administrator password and block ALL ports from the WAN side (don’t expose WinBox or any management ports to the Internet!). You might also want to upgrade RouterOS to the latest version.

There’s a lot to say about this router but I’ll keep it as brief as I can.
It does provide an easy config method so it’s not impossible for new users to use this. The problem will be if you need to modify settings, or open a port, you’re going to have a tough time making the changes if you’re a beginner. The concepts are the same as a home router, it’s just very different to work with than what most home users are used to. It’s also loaded with features and highly configurable.
Among other things, I use this for Open VPN to allow access to a network that I use for some work/lab virtual machines. My home network is on a separate vlan and I also have a separate wireless SSID for my work laptop. It’s also my main router and it barely goes above 5% when doing ~500Mb downloads during a speed test. I don’t have a ton of rules, but the same rules would make an RB2011 go up to 100% and I could only get around 150Mb down on that router. I have a gigabit connection, but the max I hit is usually 750Mb on Comcast but typically, ~500Mb. Either way, this router barely breaks a sweat.
I still have my RB2011 and I power it with the PoE out of this router. I have fiber running to an HP switch and I have both ends as trunk ports.
I’m pretty happy with the router. It’s nice to have the 10 gigabit ports and I’ve moved a few things from my HP switch to the router instead.
If you’re running an older Mikrotik router and you’re taxing its CPU, this is a great upgrade. If you are looking to get into networking with Mikrotik but are not sure if you’ll stick with it, try a cheaper router first. Exact same configuration and options are available in most routers. The only different is the interfaces that you’ll have available.

Wer einen Router von Mikrotik kauft, muss sich bewusst sein, dass diese Geräte nicht für den Laien gedacht sind. Wer aber einigermaßen fit ist in Netzwerkthemen und zudem bereit, weiter dazuzulernen, für den ist ein Mikrotik-Router ein echtes Geschenk.
Auch der RB4011 (mit oder ohne WLAN) bildet da keine Ausnahme. Leistung ist im Überfluss vorhanden, und Features wie ein 10-GBit-Port (SFP+) findet sich bei keinem mir bekannten anderen Hersteller in dieser Preisklasse. Das Gerät läuft absolut stabil und bietet wirklich alle erdenklichen Möglichkeiten in Bezug auf Konfiguration und Features, nicht zuletzt dank seiner eingebauten Skriptsprache für das automatisieren von Abläufen. Da verkommt der lebenslange Support und Versorgung mit Updates schon fast zur Nebensache.
Ich persönlich bin sowohl mit Verarbeitung als auch Ausstattung mehr als zufrieden. Die Einrichtung dauert von wenigen Mausklicks (dank Setup-Assistent) bis hin zu mehreren Tagen, um fortgeschrittene Feinheiten wie erweitertes Routing, IGMP, lokale DNS-Auflösung, VPN, WLAN-Verwaltung usw. usf. einzurichten – aber das macht ja auch irgendwo Spaß, und wenn erst mal alles konfiguriert ist, läuft es einfach. Wer bspw. schon einen Mikrotik-Router besitzt, kann ganz einfach dessen Konfiguration übernehmen und anpassen. Der einzige Punkt auf meiner Wunschliste wären noch mehr PoE-Ports, aber das ist wirklich Jammern auf sehr hohem Niveau.

This is the third MikroTik product I’ve bought. Like all of them, it is highly configurable and very powerful. RouterOS can get the job done, but you need to spend the time learning its interface. Many of the config options are under non-obvious menus. That being said, I have mine running a fully separated guest network with WiFi APs for both 2.4 and 5 and even a gigabit port on a network isolated from everything else.
The two main issues I have (making it 4 star instead of 5) are as follows. First, the 5GHz network is very sensitive to “detecting radar”. I am unable to run the router with 160MHz channels. 5GHz for me only works if I set the channel size to 80MHz and set the frequency between 5180-5240. Anything else and the router reports that it is detecting radar and shuts down the 5GHz AP. This is a bit limiting and I don’t remember this being an issue on other routers. The second issue is the device runs noticeably warm to the touch. While the system health indications don’t seem to show a problem, I am worried about the temperature overall.
