I’ve only used this modem with the Comcast network thus far in the 2 apartments that I’ve lived in this year (South Florida resident) – so far, no problems, no hassle. Modem has steadily maintained the always-on connection and is connected to my trusty Cisco-Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router that I’ve owned now for the past couple years.

Upload and download speeds are fine – torrents download fairly quickly, am able to stream Hulu with no problems.

Overall, extremely reliable and a great value. It’s a great alternative to the steady $5/month rental fee Comcast puts in your cable bill for their Motorola modem – and I’m fairly certain that I’ve never had to do the “unplug-wait-replug” cycle to restart a connection – which I had to do a LOT with the Motorola surfboard modem that I had from them previously.

    Highly recommended.

When I had my cable installed I knew the moment the tech pulled out an outdated RCA modem I needed to upgrade. The ridiculously slow speeds coming from said modem further proved my suspicions. I started researching modems and came to the conclusion it is a 50/50 crap shoot…either it will work for you or it won’t. I chose to look at Cisco because I already owned a Cisco router, Cisco-Valet Plus Wireless Router which has yet to let me down and I wanted to stick with the same brand for my modem. I am really glad I did. Setting up the Cisco Linksys modem was so easy, I’ve never had a modem/router set-up so fast and easily. All I did was plug everything in, swap it out with my cable company online, and voila I was online…and my online speeds jumped from a crawl of 2.5mbps…to blazing fast speeds of 12mbps and up. If you are having problems with your cable internet speeds, odds are its the modem they provided you with. I dumped my cable originally because of lousy speeds, and went back out of necessity. If I had known I could have resolved my issue with a new modem I would have done this years ago, and saved myself countless hours of customer service calls.

This is an update after owning the modem for just over 30 days: Originally given 4 Stars, I have reduced the rating to 1 Star. The modem died after a month of use. That left me stuck without service for several days until the weekend could pass and the cable company technician check what the problem was with my Internet Service. After a great deal of checking and cross checking, a new Motorola modem was put in by my cable guy. They sell it for $75 (as opposed to Amazon’s $50) but offer 1 year on-site warranty with immediate replacement and installation of a problem unit – not so bad a deal if you really need to be online for certain. The new Motorola Surfboard SB5101 was instantly recognized by my Linksys router – so the problems described below with instalation of the Linksys cable modem wre not encountered. It strikes me as odd that there would be less compatability between a Linksys router and modem than between a Linksys router and Motorola modem.

I got a LinkSys modem because of the good reviews, but also because I thought it would “play nice” with my LinkSys router. My router is the WRT610N Dual N-Band so it is pretty good.

When I got the modem I plugged it in and gave the MAC Address to my cable company. However, I couldn’t get on the itnernet; my cable company supplied modem had worked fine – I just got tired of paying the rental. They had me direct connect the modem to the computer – no problems. The problem was with the router! The modem and router did NOT play nice together at all!

Since my router is just over a year old, my call to LinkSys let me know they could tell me how to configure the router to get it working… but it would cost $29. to do so. Their products don’t work so well together, so they charge to make them work! I refused to pay.

I got out my LinkSys Router CD, looked up my router login and password and other info, then re-installed the router. The reinstallation process fixed it up so it got on the internet.

If you get this modem and have a router, be prepared for a little hassle getting it going.

First impression of the modem after getting it operational with the router is that it seems to provide faster internet access than the old modem from the calbe company did – though only marginally so, but still enopugh to notice.

This seems to be an excellent modem and works really well. But, if you have a LinkSys WRT610N (and probably any other LinkSys router) be prepared for a little extra work to get the modem going.

i gave it 3 out of 5 because during early 2012 the interent would go out probably 3-4 times a day. when i first used the modem it worked great. then i had problems. Comcast said the signal going to the house was fine. I constantly had to unplug the cable internet going to the modem, then unplug the power supply to the modem and let it sit powered off for about 1 minute. Then I would plug it all back in and watch the lights all come back on and it would work fine. This went on for about 3 months. very inconveinent. sometimes i had to insert a paperclip into the reset button. now during those few months it did suck and thank goodness it happened in the summer when im not home much. in the past 4 months it has worked fine. Although i had that little hiccup were i had to constantly reset the modem, it did pay for itself in several months rather than renting one on a monthly basis from comcast.
