It’s a reliable gigabit router. Does everything it’s supposed to and does a great job of it.

Simple to set-up and works seamlessly.

My only suggestion would be to add mounting holes on the bottom to allow mounting on a panel or wall.

One warning to those new to network equipment: 5 ports means that you can connect up to 5 RJ45 connectors. If you are connecting to a network, be sure to count that connector (i.e. network plus 4 devices). These smaller switches seem to fill up fast.

In my office I have 1 port to the larger network, 1 port each for my laptop, scanner and printer (my scanner and printer are stand alone). That leaves only one free port.

Was on the fence about getting this because it was pretty inexpensive compared to some.
But I got it because I’ve had good luck with D-Link switches for decades.

This is a sharp looking ultra small and light weight unit. The wall wart to power it is big and cumbersome by comparison. As long as you can hide the wall wart, this thing looks really great, and it’s hyper-fast. I got it to replace my formerly high end 100MBPS switches that were quit sharp in their day. This is smaller and tighter and nicer. Takes up less space and looks great and works great.

Phenomenal product! Works way beyond my expectations!!!

I bought two of them to work as a repeaters for a very long run of cable (150m) across my building site from the public fibre connection to my mobile home here in Western Ireland so I wanted cheap and cheerful rather than wasting the costs on a fibre link as it is only temporary until my house is built.

Before I split the cable to go crimping I just tried them end to end to see how they worked… to my astonishment they worked brilliantly with ZERO packet loss! I was using similar brand switches (but I won’t mention the manufacturer as I don’t want to defame any other product as the distance to be fair is beyond the max Ethernet length) and it had severe packet loss, but now I am able to keep my long cable length without cutting it mid section to install a switch as a repeater and work away without having to fork out hundreds of Euro on fibre optic cable that I might only use for a few months more.

The device is really nice too and very tiny, has no annoying fan and literally works away without any fuss! The Ireland and UK power plug is nice and neat too unlike the horrible brick of thing with the previous product I was using. I’m laying blocks on my house that are smaller than that last power supply plug I was using ๐Ÿ™‚ The D-Link one is just slightly larger than an Apple iPhone charger so very handy if you want to install it in an IP66 enclosure for example where space is tight.

So whatever your need for a quick and handy switch/hub this is your toy! I don’t normally give such reviews but I am so amazed by the product I think it is only fair! And for such a tiny price too! As I say I thought it would be basic and just get me out of a problem… I had no idea it would be this good.

I was searching for a device that could split my ethernet cable to my work and personal computers similar to a router and this was it! It took almost no set-up and this was plug and play for my two computers. The speed is also relatively the same as the wifi from the router but it feels a lot more stable. The only con I notice is that this device will need to be plugged to a power outlet to function and the power cable is only 3ft long, which could be too short for some, but still well worth it for the stability. I would certainly buy it again!

I installed 4 of the D-Link switches with a mix of 5 and 8 port types connected to a Netgear R6700v3 router with 1G ports and to each other to improve my home network backbone to 1G to reach 4 corners of the house. This particular 8 port switch is at the home entertainment center so lots of streaming and data usage. The switch performed wonderfully. Read on for how I evaluated the switch.
    — These are very small and light, much smaller then the impression left from viewing the pictures.
    — There is nothing more to the installation then plug it in and power it up.
    — Its connects to all 8 ports almost instantly. I reach back to plug it in and view the front and all the ports were connected .
    — The ethernet ports on the rear are well labeled and the numbers easily read.
    — What is a true convenience is that the lights on the front phsically match the port on the back. Many other switchs reverse the order and its a total annoyance. On this switch draw a line from the port lights to the connector to know which connector is was activity light. nice!
    — The front lights are easily seen. The ports show different colors for the speed, green for 1G and yellow for 100m.
    — On other switches I’ve used when cascaded like this there seemed to be some limit to the number of cascades but with these and in my network they all operated no problem.
    — Very very light and can be easily attached to desktop using double side foam tape and it holds in place when cables are attached.
    — How about speed performance? I have all 8 ports used to include a TV, Blu-ray player, 2 home security DVRs which (all 100M ports) are all streaming video for this test. The TV and the Blue-ray are streaming 4K UHD video. In addition I have a laptop (with 1G port) and the R6700 router (also 1G port) connected plus 2 standalone IP security cameras (100M ports). The port light colors were correct, Green for the router and PC and yellow for all others. I could tell no difference in the 4K streaming user interface or video performance when connected through the 8 port switch or when connected directly to the router. Every device connected through the switch performed perfectly without any hint of data slowdown. I did a speed test from my PC for the broadband service and I hit the maximum data rate provided by the ISP.

    One thing could be improved:
    — I wish there was something to attach them to a surface. There are no mounting holes . Its a smooth small box.

Conclusion: Other than some 2 sided tape for mounting this is a perfect, fast and economical plug and play 1G switch.

It expands the number of router ports….

It does not control the subnet allocations…

    It’s fast enough.
    It’s flexible enough.
    but,
It’s dumb… which may not matter if you use it thru your router’s setup/configuration console.

Works well enough as a local hub… for interconnecting devices on a bench.
Mileage may vary if you try to use to connect to the internet.

It has LEDs that change color relative to thru-put speed…
    Orange for 10-100 Mbps… Green for 1Gbps…

    It’s small…
Doesn’t seem to generate much heat.
Doesn’t seem to gobble much power.

This switch is very compact and works right out of the box with no setup. I am using it to share a single network connection between three computers — a tower computer running Linux, a Raspberry Pi acting as a print server, and a Mac. The picture shows it with a Raspberry Pi for size comparison.

    Things I like:
    1. the network ports are on the back
    2. activity lights are on the front

    Minor things I don’t like:
    1. I would rather the power adapter socket was on the back rather than the side
    2. The bottom lacks anti-skid rubber feet, though these can easily be added

Solid product that does the job. I have recently added a lot more things with base stations (such as Arlo cameras and a Samsung SmartThings hub) to our home network, and our 4 port router had run out of LAN ports for everything.

This switch is affordable, very small, and very simple. It’s plug and play, and is a great way to add a few more LAN ports to your network.

The only drawback is that it is (yet another) transformer plug to add to my tangled nest of power cords.

With everyone working at home it was time to put a couple of our computers onto our LAN and take some pressure off the WiFi. This little switch was the right price, quick delivery and works great.
