I just got it, so am playing around with it. I will be updating my review as time goes on with it.

Currently my first big note is that it does not use winbox. If you try to connect to it using winbox, it will load up in your browser. It will at least display its existence in winbox though, so its not completely lost on your network. It is a tad disappointing that it doesn’t support winbox, as I do love to get all my configurating done from its (winbox) easy to use interface.

Its configuration is also different than my 4011, 2011, SXT, and all my cap devices. Its almost like a ‘dumbed down’ managed switch so far.

I’m using two of these in my my network to power my CAP on the south end of the house to handle a cAP XL, and then also one of my SXT 5 ac devices. The other one will be on the receiving end of the other SXT 5 device to get the signal sent around my shop.

I’m going to be playing around with it, and will update my review as I get more experience with it to really know if its as good as mikrotiks other fantastic products.

Great little switch with PoE on four outputs. Reading some of the reviews I am not sure what people have been doing wrong. Works as expected and is powering my other Mikrotik kit just fine without the need of multiple mains adaptors. Remember this is not 802.af PoE, so will not work with those type of devices.

l’alimentation via le switch n’est pas au standard POE mais c’est du passive POE

I bought this to solve a very specific issue

Years ago I run a CAT5e line to our front door for a CCTV camera using the old school balun method. Eventually upgraded to an IP camera using POE. all fine

But recently been doing some stuff in the garden and our front door is next to the garden. Wanted some more cameras and some WIFI out there so I did the janky method of using RJ45 splitters on that CAT5e run which worked fine but limited me to 10/100 for the switch I installed in the shed.

Well now we are looking to build an office in the garden we need a gigabit link to the house and so with no easy way to power that front door camera or a switch locally I looked into a POE pass through switch

Narrowed it down to this and a Netgear model. I have a fairly impressive home network using mostly Cisco stuff so the thought of using a Netgear product was enough to make me try this out. But the is a huge catch with this hence why its only 4 stars

It only does passive POE 24v. thats all it will ever do. You have to buy a separate quite pricey (for what it is) gigabit injector to go with this too. Then you have the issue of powering a standard 48v POE device. thankfully the camera I have has a 12v input and I was able to source on Amazon a 24v POE to 12v splitter which has allowed me to use this still.

the swOS software is a tad strange to configure. and annoyingly has no option to give your VLAN’s names which will drive you mad if you have more than a handful. but once you have it setup you can just walk away and it has been running stable for over a week. Given its Mikrotik I have no doubt it will continue to run for years to come.

It has given me the required outcome of a full gigabit link to the switch in my shed. and powering an IP camera all from one single CAT5e feed that would be difficult to run again. for £50 this has saved days of work running cables for me

MIkrotik. Make a version of this that does 48v POE 802.3af and it will be a 5 star product

Super impressed with MikroTik products and this is no exception. Works great and great value. This has features normally found on much more expensive gear.

Estoy encantado.

I purchased this to replace an off the shelf consumer switch for my son to hook up his gaming consoles. After replacing the other switch, the download speeds for the consoles doubled. These Mikrotik switches are very efficient and the best bang for your buck. While you can get into them and program them, attach them to a VLAN, etc. you can also just plug and play out of the box. This is the second switch (same model) I have purchased and will buy more if needed.

I highly recommend these switches to anyone looking for a switch.

I have about 30 of these switches around a small hotel. They are small, cheap, fast, powerful and the PoE does an excellent job if you don’t need 802.3af. The case is plasticky but you can’t ask for more given what you pay for the device. These are the new generation switches, product code CSS106-1G-4P-1S. The old ones were noticeably less reliable, I had some of them flake out in various ways often related to the PoE functionality. I haven’t had problems with the new ones. I use the 24V PoE with various devices that work with passive PoE (e.g. Ubiquity G2 and G3 cameras, UAP access points and AirMAX point to point links). I also sometimes tap the 24V PoE from the Ethernet cable to feed devices that don’t take PoE but work with 24V (e.g. ControlByWeb IOT gear.) I can then power these devices on and off via the switch’s WebUI which I wouldn’t be able to do if I fed them with a wall wart type power supply. My only nitpick with these switches is that the AC adapter likes fairly stable mains voltages. We use 230V here and during storms there can be voltage spikes; I’ve lost a couple adapters in such situations (and if you lose the adapter a new one will cost about the same as buying an entire switch.)

It would be great of Mikrotik came out with an 8-port version of the switch, even if only 4 ports had PoE out.
