I bought this adapter because the one I had laying around, a Dynex DX-BUSB 54Mbps 802.11g Wireless LAN USB 2.0 Adapter w/Desktop Stand, did not have any drivers available for Kubuntu Linux. I found that this adapter had been approved and successfully tested on Kubuntu 10.10 so I took a plunge.
Upon receipt, I physically installed the adapter, booted the box and voila ~ the card was immediately recognized and I was on my internal wi-fi network in minutes.
I have not had any issues with the transfer rate or drop-outs so far (fingers crossed), so I can recommend this adapter without hesitation for any Kubuntu users out there.
Overall, the price was a little higher than I would have expected to pay, but when it comes to working in Linux ~ I’ll pay a premium for plug-and-play.

I bought this back in 08 so I could access crappy wireless networks better. I have to say it did last. A couple VERY hot Summers, and Very cold witers, IN the elements… It is tough. Just make sure to install the files before hand. And when your useing it, it seems to slow down the connection a bit. Overall, Its very simple and easy to use, and durable. Not top of the line stuff, but it gets it done. I gave it 3 stars since I do remeber haveing some problems connecting… Its been a while since I used it to be able to tell exactly what… And Ive seen better ones out there. Ive also seen a WHOLE lot worse. 7 out of a 10.

During the last six weeks my business partner and I have had daily, often several times a day, difficulty accessing the internet. The problems began with the net gear software not being readable by Window Vista “Supports Windows Vista” drastically reducing the claim “Easy set up with Smart Wizard.” Next we’ve been on their tech support phone lines for easily three hours or more. During these phone calls, we established a problem ticket with all the pertinent information. Yet also during the phone calls, our ticket number was useless, we had to repeat all the information regarding the problem to each and every tech person we talked to. Next, the technicians would quickly tells us to return the product because it was faulty. This instruction was given shortly after the conversations began without any diagnostics being performed, and we have two devices from two separate editions, sometimes one works and the other doesn’t. Just the idea that they think the problem is with their devices give me great concern about the reliablity of all their products. These devices have been moved between the two computers without any change. Sometimes one works while the other doesn’t, sometimes they both work, sometimes neither works. Our Internet provider is Clear. We have had so much success with Clear, that my business partner called them to see if they could help. Even though this was not their problem their tech support person helped for 1 hour and 35 minutes. During this conversation, with Clear, he walked us through not only the steps that the Netgear employees did, but other Netgear pages and control panels that the Netgear employees were either unaware of or just didn’t care enough to lead us to. During the Clear support we got the proble fixed. Really, Clear helped us, Netgear didn’t. Based on the conversations with Netgear, we believe the tech support people at Netgear are using standard pre-written answers without really understanding the product. Netgear software is unreliable and their tech support is worthless. I highly recommend either using a different brand of wireless or just keep the wires running through your office or home. You will be much happier.

I am using this on my HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop with the Vista Home Premium OS. It’s easy to install and it works well (I’m not going into the details of how it preforms since I have not compared it to other wireless devices, and, because I am just an average joe with basic tech knowledge). The only problem I have is that it is bulky. My USB ports are close together, so plugging it in means I can’t plug in another USB device at the same time. If this item were slimmer, I’d give it five stars.

This is my second Netgear USB wireless adapter. I’ve been using one happily for a couple years on my desktop (Windows) system.
My neighbor offered me a few old desktop computers he was going to throw out, urging me to try to get one going with parts from the three. (I can’t turn down free junk.) The ex-corporate Compaq responded favorably to my tinkering, so it seemed like a good time to download a copy of the Linux operating system to see what that environment is like.
I decided to try the Mandriva distribution after reading summaries of the various kinds at linux.com. The installation went well and I was navigating comfortably in a short while. I plugged in the Netgear adapter into a USB port, and moments later I was informed that my home’s wireless network had been found and what was the password? I typed it in and was off and running, just like that.
My compliments to Netgear for making a good, inexpensive adapter, and to Mandriva for having its driver right in their basic installation to handle it.

This made my pc wireless with no other equipment necessary and works wonderfully!! It took no time to load the driver and I had wireless internet right away. Love it!! The price was 50 – 75% less than what they sell for at the retail stores also, so that can’t be beat!
