Very easy to setup with the cell phone app.
I now have the slave mesh units at each corner of the house.
I have every devices now connected this new router.
I only had one issue with a windows tablet where it didn’t recognize neither the 802.11ax.
It turned out, after some research that the WIFI driver onto that laptop was too old and didn’t recognize the ax WIFI protocol. It did work on the ac protocol, but not the ax. That tablet started to work once I updated windows with the latest drivers. Other than that, I am very impress with this ASUS router, as I can count on it as always available. No more router reboot required. I have 2 NAS drive connected to this router via a network switch and these NAS drives are responding very quickly. Absolutely no issues setting this router up. I strongly recommend this router.

The app is real nice, tons of customizability, features, and very user friendly. Wifi performance has been rock solid. I am on a 300 mbps down/15 mbps up connection so I have not tested the absolute limits and extremes of speeds from this mesh system. My setup is a 3300 sq. ft. home on a 50′ x 150′ ft property – 2 nodes on 1st floor (front and back) and 1 node in 2nd floor (mid). 2nd floor and main node are wired backhaul, 3rd node is wireless backhaul This offers good property coverage including my driveway and backyard. I like that the nodes are sleek and decent looking, low profile.

I picked this up to replace a TP Link Deco E4 system. The TP was my first Mesh system. Best average wifi speed I could get was 60-65 mbs. I had my cable internet upgraded from 150 mbs to 500, then to 1024. I was hoping the TP link would give me faster speeds. I tried to switch which deco was the main one and also ran wireless backhaul to all three units. I have a two storey plus basement. House is 2600 sq ft.

I decided to try to upgrade with this ASUS. I wasn’t sure that the other ASUS Zen wifi AX with 2 units, but I didn’t know if a unit on the main floor would send enough signal to my basement.

Setup was easy took about 20-25 mins for all three units to speak to each other and there was a firmware update that I also installed. Now I can get over 200mbs on the 5ghz signal on the main floor and the basement speed test on my firestick I’m getting 159 mbs.

The app is easy to use, similar to the Deco app. Price point is good for the performance.

It is June 2023, Asus release huge security advisory with tons of bugs fixed, but AX Mini gets no updates and no updates since July 2022 – meaning it is completely insecure. Don’t buy, don’t use. Asus dropped this router support completely, too bad I wasted my money on it.

These only have a single 5 ghz band and thus do not do well with a wireless backend. They work great when connected via ethernet. In fact they are excellent for this as they draw 12v power thus it is easy to power them with power over ethernet with a splitter. Also it is easy to get mounting brackets so that you can end up with a clean looking installation.

I have six of them running in such a manner and they work great. However if you wanted a true wireless setup I would get a more expensive model that includes 2 x 5 ghz connections so that one can serve as a dedicated backend.

I have been using this for the past 3 weeks, got this on sale for $350 Cdn tax included. Previously, I was on Asus RT-3200 (merlin firmware) + N66u as an backhaul extender. The signal of the AX Mini cover my front/back yard using the 5GHz signal which wasn’t possible in my previous configuration (have to rely on 2.4GHz before on the yard). The initial setup is generally ok, except for the fact that the mobile app is a bit dumb (my wifi password format as an example is 1234 word1 word2 word3 word4 **%% , it’s not an accepted format in the app…. probably due to the space in between the password but is obviously fine when setting through the browser. These are obviously just minor obstacles.

What’s not ok about this product as of firmware 9.0.0.4.386_41994 (Apr2021) is that this can crash multiple times per day without any major download/upload going on. The longest time it manages to stay on was 3 days before it auto reboot. Right now, I have disabled all kind of features that may potentially stress the unit such as QoS=disabled, AiProtection=disabled, VPN=disabled, Alexa/IFTTT=disabled. The number of Wifi devices are at most 10 with a few Ethernet devices. This is basically just a dumb router with Wifi running PPPoe on a 500/500Mbps line. Note that the crashes do not happen when downloading linus ISO through torrent/newsgroup. It’s not the stress but a random general instability issue. My Asus RT-3200 may hard crash once every few months on the FTTH line. I gave up on this as a router at this point as my FTTH line act line dial up when my gaming experience disconnect randomly…

I did capture the 24hrs feedback log which include the crashing behavior. Asus can take its time and get it right.

Does not keep good connection. During the day I have noticed it will constantly blink and the only one of the 3 that stays connected is the one sitting in the same room as the router. This was not cheap and was highly recommended but the truth is….it’s not worth it.

I have used a few different systems to try and get proper coverage of our home. It’s an older building, with some interference from the layout so we’ve had trouble with dead zones and hard to cover areas. In the past, we went with 2 routers connected in a mesh network but it wasn’t getting us the speeds we paid for. Switching to this system, we’ve had no issue getting full coverage and even having our wifi reaching outside to cover our entire front and back yards. I’ve had some troubles with devices connecting in the past, but in the app you can reset everything and use the optimization feature to have it balance back out, making it really easy and quick to troubleshoot. Overall, I’d recommend this to anyone who is looking for wide coverage and might not feel so confident navigating their router to try and fix issues.
