This wifi is a beast. In a 3000 Sq ft one story home, always had issues with the back couple rooms. Extenders were iffy at best. But this thing really kicks out some signals! Now I’ve been using wifi for 20 years, but am no pro. Many have mentioned about lacking options that most will never need or use. But for someone that just wants a strong signal to connect through the house coupled with a strong password, this is for you. I run my NAS hard wired to it and all my PC’s and phones are setup to wifi. Backups are done with ease to the NAS. I have 1gb through infinity. When it’s connected to 5 4 ghz my speed is a constant 500+ mbps. When on 6 ghz I hit 900+ mbps and that’s through two walls. Very pleased with this system.

I bought the Linksys MX8502 because I needed better coverage in my house. It seems to do that and all the various devices we have (computers, kindles, and printers) are able to sign on easily.

Installation was another matter. You’re supposed to use their app. I tried that and it failed. The app told me to try again. I did, several times with minor variations, and got the same result. I called the support phone number and it rang, and rang, and rang… I gave up and tried the chat option. I got a tech on the line in just a minute or two. I got worried when he told me to try the app again – but when it failed he told me there was another way to set it up. This was all controlled by pushing the reset button in strange ways and it worked. It took, overall, about two hours to get it done because the tech had other folks on his chat and sometimes I didn’t do the strange things correctly.

It was a bit of a struggle but it’s working just fine.

The MX8500 is a great router and setup was easy with the app. I am not an app person but ti work perfectly and I had my system up with three nodes in about 35minutes. Also something not shown in the Anazon pictures is all three nodes are full functioning routers with hardwire gig ehternet ports in addition to the Wifi. Again price is a little high but I can stream four Fire Cubes plus our phones and laptops with no issues. The only issue I had was when I wanted to access the Cable modem web interface it took some playing with the IP address range to get it to discover the Cablem modem. If you are not a network geek this is not a big deal and if your internet provider gives you the modem you may not have access in any case.

My goal was to get a usable signal at all areas of my property. I have spectrum 1 gig cable service and the provided router was not cutting it. I purchased the MX8502 Atlas max 6E tri band rated at 6000 sq ft 2 routers package. These routers accomplished my goal. My house is 3000 sq feet single story on a lot that is 200 feet long 66 feet wide. My office is located in the front of the house which is 15 feet from the front of the lot. My garage is separate from the house at the very back of the lot.

I did have difficulty with set up. I was unable to get a internet signal out of the modem (Hitron brand) and to the Linksys router. The set up instructions have you connect your cables then unplug power to the cable modem to reset the connection. They have you connect the internet cat5 cable from modem to Linksys before doing this restart. The trick with spectrum is you don’t connect the cat 5 cable during restart of the modem. Since I had already tried many times to set this up I had to start clean. I reset the Linksys to factory spec with the reset button then left the cat 5 cable disconnected during set up until the modem had restarted. and that was it. Both Linksys and spectrum support had me convinced that I could not use this router and modem combination. I usually don’t give up easy so I kept calling back till I got the right person which was a tech at spectrum.

I have left my channel selection on auto and have not had any disconnection troubles.
I have no 6E devices so these results are from my 2.4 and 5ghz devices. In the room that the routers are located in I get nice download speeds 650-800 mbps. At the furthest distances I still get very usable internet. I get aprox 200 mbps in my garage and office which are at the furthest ends. So far 1 month I have not had any issues to complain about. I have all the typical stuff connected plus I use internet for all my music and TV streaming. I have not had to restart the router. I like that there is a guest network option. The control panel is easy to set everything you want.

Routers started out with strong signals, but now provide minimal throughput.
Router Wi-Fi signals are far weaker than any router I’ve previously encountered.
The mobile app started out very useful, but now is only sporadically correct.
