I literally plugged it in the computer and it automatically showed the bluetooth sign at the bottom right of the screen. I was able to connect to my headphones. I tried a different brand and it did not plug and play as it was advertised. Happy with this product!!!

I brought this brand because they do have a proven record for great quality. I could have went with one of the lower price ones but I didn’t want to have to send a lower quality one back because it doesn’t work or doesn’t have good range. I bought these to work with my headphones that are Bluetooth that I use with my phone My PC did not have Bluetooth capability for some reason or another. But this worked great I just popped it in the USB port it picked up my headset immediately I’ve never had any problems with sound or range or dropping the Bluetooth signal or anything like that so I would definitely recommend this if you want to know how so great product that has Great sounds and great quality. And believe me if it was anything other than that I would definitely tell you.

I somehow lost my previous dongle that allowed wireless communcation with my Ergo trackball. Rather than ordering a new trackball, I opted for this Asus USB-BT500 BlueTooth adapter so that I can still keep using my existing Ergo. I am very pleased to report that installation of the BT500 was seamless and pairing devices via BlueTooth was straightforward. Everything works properly once again. I’m happy.

I bought this to interact specifically with ble 5.0 devices from my PC and possibly some SBCs.
This was a huge pain to install but here’s what I did which will hopefully spare someone else the agony.
The documentation on the Asus site is pretty abhorrent. It’s mostly Windows oriented, and even for Windows the documentation is awful and you are pretty much on your own. It’s a “plug and pray” situation with this thing until you get it setup correctly.

Yes, it’s supported in Linux so should work on Raspberry Pi as well.
Once it’s running it’s actually really nice so far.
Also the drivers include the source which is a win.

How I got it working (old Ubuntu 18.04 with kernel version 5.4.0):
First, download the driver from the Asus website.

Second, blacklist all default bt drivers by creating the file /etc/modprobe.d/bluetooth-blacklist.conf
    then add this to it:
    blacklist btrtl
    blacklist btusb
    blacklist btintel
    blacklist btbcm

This was necessary for me as the two devices were fighting for attention so to speak.
It may not be needed for you (you can skip this and try it later if needed).

Third, reload the kernel module settings (part of the above step):
    sudo systemctl restart systemd-modules-load.service

Note that you will probably lose your bluetooth control panel, but you can undo this later by deleting the conf file then reloading the settings again.

Fourth, install the driver after unzipping it and cd’ing to the folder:
    sudo make install INTERFACE=usb

Fifth, you must copy the firmware to the correct location.
Go into the folder /rtkbt-firmware/lib/firmware inside the driver folder and copy these two files to /lib/firmware/ on your system:
    rtl8761bu_config
    rtl8761bu_fw

Now see if the device is listed:
    hciconfig -a

    the device should appear there.

If not, unplug the device then turn bluetooth off then on.
Depending on your distro, it could one of these (Deb/Ubuntu/fedora):
    sudo service bluetooth stop
    sudo systemctl stop bluetooth

Plug it back in, run hciconfig -a again and it should be working.

    If still nothing, run:
    lsmod | grep bluetooth
and see if ‘rtk_btusb’ is listed next to bluetooth (with some others, probably).
If so then the driver is probably installed.
Now let’s see if your firmware is correct:
Type dmesg and see if there are any errors there.
If you are seeing a cryptic message in dmesg like:
    rtk_btusb: fw name is rtl8761bu_fw
rtk_btusb: This is not 8723a, use new patch style!

then the firmware has not been copied to the correct folder which will prevent it from working.
Locate the correct firmware folder for your distro then redo the steps from that point again.
Hopefully it should be running now.

Now you can play with it in bluetoothctl.
Type bluetoothctl then type scan on and see if there are any devices.
Type help for a list of commands… have fun!

If all else has failed, remember to register your device on the Asus website then you should be
eligible for support (didn’t try this, your mileage may vary).

So far no problems at all, excpt I leave it plugged into the back of my computer all the time.
I have bluetooth headphones I use for my phone, for audiobooks, music, phone calls, etc. Unless I turn off Bluetooth under computer devices my bluetooth headphones will not only connect to my phone, but also to my computer. Not a problem, except when I move into the garage or far away from my computer I get the annoying, beeping from my headphones that they are not connected to the computer anymore. My headphones are still connected to my phone for whatever I am listening to, but the constant beeping is annoying. Best solution is to go to computer devices and turn Bluetooth off on my computer until I want to actually use a Bluetooth device on my computer, then turn it on and any Bluetooth device I want to use will connect thru this nice device. So basically it works almost too good.

Installed on my PC which had no Bluetooth on the motherboard and it synced to my Bluetooth headphones immediately! Tried the same on ps5 and get the same error like I do other Bluetooth devices that are not PlayStation branded. I saw someone had success in a review I did not.

My existing Bluetooth adapters did not work properly with the PSVR2 adapter for PC. (The sense controllers would pair fine, and the buttons worked, but the tracking didn’t work at all). After spending 5 hours on this, I ordered this ASUS adapter, which was on the Sony recommended list. It solved my tracking issues. Be aware, though, that I also connected it to a USB extension cable to be away from the PC and closer to the controllers. I don’t know if this is necessary, but that was the last thing I tried with my previous adapter (per Sony recommendation), and I didn’t feel like messing with it forever, so I just installed this new adapter on the extension cable (which I run up between my monitors). So I can’t vouch for this dongle working with PSVR2 if you plug it directly in the PC because I didn’t try it, but it is working for me well with the extension cable, and the tracking is working fine.
