Kindle Customer –
I have had several scanners and printers before, mostly canon, but I was not satisfied with Canon and decided to switch to Epson.
It may be that the printer HW works fine and should provide fine printouts …
It looks very nice, the printer panel is nice and colorful…
However the software that comes with the printer is not Ok:
– The print to CD still does not work, after many times attempting to, it comes with errors like: – Printer driver can not be found … (after uninstalling, rebooting and reinstalling the app a few times. I hope I’ll get it to work soon.
– Scanner software barely works, it is suppose to provide options for scanning with particular resolution, well it does, but it does not seem to take them. And if you specify where to save the scanned copies, well it does not pay attention and keep saving to its default. No matter how many times you try. I am still not able to get high resolution photo scans.
– To get the Wireless printing to work took some time, but I finally got it to work.
– I have not tried faxing yet…
– I tried to do some high res photo printouts from my PC… well, somehow the default settings didn’t work and I got several photos in my high resolution paper that were useless as they were fully smeared… I guess it placed too much ink on the printout? But now after some playing around with the settings I got some that work better.
I would have returned it, but I still hope that it could work… I’ll see.
Update after 2 1/2 months: I updated to 4 stars…
Calling customer service was a great experience and following their instructions the printer and the software works perfect. Main problem was that the Software has to be installed in a particular order unless you use it as a local printer only.
Wireless printer works very well even from the cloud and emails: you can email to your printer with a photo attached to the email and it prints your email page and it is able to print the photo with photo paper if you have photo paper in the tray.
Update after 61/2 months: I updated to 2 stars
The printer is quite unreliable, it is hard to know when it would print Ok and when it wouldn’t. Usual problems with frequent nose clean ups… I use ink jet quality paper just to make sure. But in draft mode is barely legible unless you spend most of the ink cleaning.
Still the best part is the wireless print to the cloud when it is able to send to your emails the outputs of scans …
Overall: I would not buy it again… It is potentially a great printer for the feature set but probably the software is far from being 4 stars… maybe 1 star.
I am considering sending it back for maybe repairs depending how difficult and time consuming it would be.
Update after around 2 years…the software is very slow to perform all the operations, the printing itself is not slow. When one changes cartridges it takes more time determining if the cartridge is genuine or not than performing the operations. And printing process is lengthy and rarely reliable. After many ink cartridges spent and quite many hours of dealing with its quirks, I decided that I need to buy other brand and get rid of this one. Never to buy an Epson again.

First – A quick summary:
1. Small footprint as promised.
2. Attractive design with an actual color touchscreen.
3. Large Black ink cartridge and smaller (color sized) Black Pigment cartridge.
4. Full feature Auto Duplex Scanning and Auto Duplex Printing*
5. Obviously, it is not silent; however, very quiet.
6. Wi-Fi is simple to set-up.
7. Google Cloud Print setup was simple for me using a Chromebook (wirelessly).
8. An update was required; however it only involved selecting “Version Update” on printer.
9. Epson Connect is easy to set-up, online. Once done, scan to: Google Drive, Box, Dropbox, and Evernote is simple.
10. Crisp, deep black text printing and vivid photo prints. The guide markings makes paper handling a snap!
11. It even has a motor driven tray that extends when printing, and retracts when not in use.
*It even has reverse printing output and self automatic scanned document sorting. (Basically, if you are scanning a 40 page document with dual sided scanning – this EPSON will scan the first side of sheet one, the back of sheet one, and output the scanned sheet with page one facing down.) Therefore, when you pick up your original document, it is in the correct order. Also, if you are copying instead of simply scanning; the photocopy of the original will also be in the correct order. I know…not something that should seem amazing; however, I have had all-in-ones that can’t even scan 40 pages without skipping or jamming; let alone, putting them in the correct order. ๐
Additional Details:
Before purchasing this EPSON XP-800, I searched and researched all-in-ones…eventually, ending up with a different printer/brand before this EPSON purchase. It was the other brands “equivalent” google cloud printer with 2-sided ADF and Printing. Needless to say, it was not up to the task! I highly doubted the claims of this EPSON, but I was fortunately surprised.
I have not owned a printer (out of the last 5 in the past 10 years) that have worked this well. This EPSON is beyond simple to set up, works flawlessly, and has a great Android App. However, the app is not needed, if you simply go to the IP address using any browser. Here, you have complete access to EPSON CONNECT; once logged-in. The printer is always ready to go when you are, no matter where you are. The email address is customizable; therefore, easy to remember. You can also specify a user list, based on email address, for printing privileges. Additionally, when scanning a document; instead of selecting one of the cloud based storage programs; you can simply scan to email.
The separate drawers for paper, photo stock, and the CD/DVD print tray, are all hidden and convenient. The markings are clear and size adjustments, accurate and easy to use. The automatic, motorized, printing tray, is another excellent feature; it assists in making a smaller footprint and keeps the accidental paper flinging from happening.
Again, I am just using this printer with a Chromebook and Android 4.2 phone. I cannot imagine how simple and versatile it is for a Windows/Mac based system and/or Apple’s Airprint.
The only problem I had with set up, was the ubiquitous blue packaging tape…Wow! Printer companies sure like putting tape everywhere!! ๐ Also, the ink cartridges seemed to be a little difficult to install. It really was my own fault for not reading the directions more closely. The far portion of the cartridge, on this EPSON, goes in and down, much further than I am used to. I had put all the ink in, with the blue buttons locking in place, then tried closing the top; no joy – the ink carriage was definitely in the way. I was just fortunate that I eventually could pry all those cartridges back out, and put them back in correctly. When you put them in correctly, the feeling is definitely noticeable. —Just a heads up for those like me: I act first – then ask later.
I hope my review was helpful!
Thanks,
Michael
