This shredder is larger than other home office shredders I have had. It comes with casters so that it’s easy to roll around, even on carpet. It handles multiple pages at once (I think I’ve tried 8 or 10 so far), which makes the job go *much* faster. I don’t think it’s any quieter than other shredders, but I also don’t think it’s any louder. The cross-cut shreds are 3/16″ wide x 1½” long. If shredding multiple pages, sometimes the cross-cut doesn’t cut all the way through and the shreds end up being 3″ long. It has a 30 minute long run-time, which is also very nice to have.

It is described as “jam-proof”. I have not had it jam, but have had it clog with paper bits between the blades so that I could not push paper down into the machine to activate the motion sensor. To clear the clogs I removed the bin and reached up towards the blades to pull out the paper bits. I was very careful, and I did not touch anything that cut or hurt my fingers. After reinstalling the bin, I pressed the > button to spin the blades to help clear them out. Then I was able to continue and finish the rest of the shredding.

A small bottle of oil and 3 big plastic bags are included. After emptying the bin into one of the bags and tying it up, I oiled the blades as the enclosed user guide indicates. Overall, I really like this home office shredder — it’s easy to work with and the shredding goes much faster now.

This shredder will work but it is very finicky and doesn’t perform as well as the Amazon Basics one that I got for less than a third of the price. It says it’s jam-proof but what it will do is just stop shredding and not reverse. Also, it will say that the bin is full before it is even halfway full which I don’t see how that’s possible, but it does. It also “detects” that I’m touching it when I’m not and stops shredding at that point. I had high expectations for this, but it doesn’t live up to them.

If you need stuff shredded quickly, go for this. The 20 sheet at a time limit is amazing. I fed a whole magazine through it just for a test. It is very heavy, but a good solid quality machine. When you first open the box, don’t be alarmed that you don’t see the power cord. It is in the shredder bin along with the user manual, registration instructions, some extra shredder bags and a tiny bottle of oil. I used the entire bottle of oil on it at the outset. It’s very quiet but at first there was some noise from the rollers after it was done shredding until the motion stopped. After being well oiled and running a bin full of shredding, that went away.

There are nice quiet wheels on it and one of them has a lock down brake, if you need it. There are handholds on both sides and the on/off button is next to where the power cord plugs in on the side. Inside the bin near the front are some little hooking edges to hold the trash bag in place. It’s pretty amazing, but this does stop automatically when you put your fingers near the shredding entrance. This keeps your fingers and your cat or dog out of the machine. When you first plug it in a nice blue light comes on along the side of the shredder with all the buttons. As the bin starts getting full the light goes to yellow and then turns red when the bin is full. Also if you pull out the bin while it’s on it automatically stops.

I like that it shreds so much at once. NO more carefully putting 6 sheets at a time through a finicky shredder. At no time did I actually count the sheets I was putting into it. I just grabbed a bunch of papers and shred on! The only thing I might comment on is that the shredded pieces are about an inch long and a maybe an eighth of an inch wide. I would have preferred they be in smaller pieces than that, but you can’t have everything.

This shredder is incredibly powerful, especially when compared to my older less expensive unit. My older one will struggle with 10 pages. This one will not slow down with up to 20 pages.
It has a sensor which will not permit it to run with too many pages. This does not work as well as it could, which is why I deducted 1 star. When I tried to put too many papers in, if it was close to the maximum the unit would start but stop after getting about 1/3 of the way through. I then had to reverse it and take a few sheets out. If the amount of paper is way over the limit, the light will turn red and it will not try.
One great feature is a sensor which will stop the unit if your fingers get too close to the slot. The slot is fairly wide and can potentially cause a problem, but the sensor shuts the unit and requires a reset if your fingers get too close.

We have it for home use, so we haven’t done 20 sheets at a time, but it handles 5 – 8 sheets easily. It’s noise is quiet for its size, and has some weight to it. It’s large, not an under desk model.

I’ve been using this Shredder for the past month, and I have to say, it’s been helpful for managing sensitive documents.
First off, the shredder lives up to its “100% Jam Proof” claim. I’ve put it through its paces with heavy use, feeding it up to the maximum 20-sheet capacity, and it’s handled everything without a hitch. The cross-cut functionality ensures that every document is shredded well. True enough they are cut into tiny, unreadable pieces, which adds an extra layer of security that I appreciate.
One of the nice features for me is its robust build. It feels solid and well-made, capable of withstanding continuous use. The 20-sheet capacity is perfect for our needs. It allows us to process large stacks of paper quickly and efficiently. The large bin is another plus—less frequent emptying means more time focused on other tasks.
The “Silent Shred” technology is another highlight. It’s remarkably quiet compared to other shredders I’ve used. Plus, the design is sleek and modern, which fits well in my home office.
Maintenance has been a breeze. The pull-out bin makes it easy to dispose of shredded paper, and the shredder comes with a nice safety feature that automatically stops when the bin is full or when the door is opened.
Overall, the Fellowes LX190 has proven to be a dependable and efficient shredder that meets all our needs.
