I bought the Sharp EL-1611V printing calculator, which was delivered a couple of days ago by Amazon. Unlike most printing calculators, this Amazon product page did not list the replacement two color print head. A call to Amazon did not locate the print head, however, did reference the depicted listing of Sharp printing calculators. Inspection of the attached graphic will disclose the EL-1611V is not listed. I called Sharp Electronics the next day.
A Sharp Electronics employee was very helpful. He initially confirmed that the printer was not yet listed among Sharp printing calculators, explaining that the EL-1611V had been discontinued. He further explained that due to popular demand, particularly from outside the US, the product was re-added to the Sharp lineup. The Sharp employee additionally indicated that the print head module was available from a wide assortment of vendors, including Amazon. He stated that the Amazon part number was IR40T. Searching Amazon for that part disclosed multiple listings including a 6 pack for $7.25 with Prime delivery.
Testing of the calculator disclosed its use of algebraic logic, similar to scientific calculators I had purchased decades ago. In effect, enter a number followed by a minus and the subtracted number. Pressing the equals sign gives the difference. Not all printing calculators work in this fashion. The unit came with a small roll of paper, which was used to test the printing capabilities. The printout was large enough to read easily and negative numbers were printed in red instead of black.
A metal paper holder flips out of back printer cavity for use with 2.25โ paper. Threading the paper through a narrow slot in the back of the calculator and into feed slot about an inch forward positions the paper for threading (see attached illustration). Pressing the paper advance key (upper left hand key) automatically threads the paper under the print head.
A 2nd key, located next to the paper advance key, together with the P/NP key (above M+) will enable or disable the printing function. The C-CE key turns the calculator on, after which it serves to clear and clear entry. An OFF key is provided to turn the calculator off. A key labeled P serves to print whatever is on the screen. Various memory keys are also included as well as two keys having to do with taxes. The LCD display is not well backlit but is easily read.
If you’re looking for an easy to use hand held printing calculator, this is the best one I am aware of. It is the only one that I found with the ability to print negative numbers in red. It has admittedly a limited market, although one that this product addressed well enough that the manufacturer decided to start producing it again. If you have any questions, I recommend referring them directly to Sharp Electronics USA. Both my wife and I very much like this product.

Very nice and easy to use. I didn’t like it didn’t come with any kind of instructions for setting up and doing things. Learned on my own or thru going to YouTube.

I bought this because it was smaller and is the perfect size but it does not give you an option to turn the printer off. Now it’s fully stopped working. Would not recommend this calculator.

This unit replaced my old Sharp printing calculator. It looks, feels, and works, exactly as advertised.
Iโm super happy with this purchase.
One Tree in the Forest –
It’s a great little calculator. Not too small that i hit the wrong keys and not too big that I can’t keep it on my desk.

Husband very happy with purchase.

What a great little calculator. I had to add tons of receipts to submit for tax time and this little guy was such a great buy! I purchased it for the main purpose of having a tape of all calculations. It takes up very little room and requires no outlet….it runs on batteries, so you can take it anywhere! Great Buy and very pleased!

This is a very compact, highly engineered printing calculator. BUT, I received NO instructions with the calculator and had to find them online. The PDF file has microscopic print that is cut off on both sides of the page (2 pages long)! Finally on a European Union Domain I found the manual large enough to actually read. BUT, the layout was in “pages” that were 8″ wide and about 4″ tall – MEH! I had to screenshot the pages I needed (10) and got them to fit 4 – 8-1/2 x 11″ sheets in an MS Word file. That was tedious and very, very irritating. If you need the manual because you too did not get it, this is the best, most readable version I found: file:///C:/Users/Customer/Downloads/libble-eu.pdf.
AND, as other reviewers stated, the “display window” is at a bad angle and reflects overhead light – necessitating making a shim to put under the calculator on my desk.
Having groused about those things, once you learn all the ways to set the computer up, it is powerful. However, as a result of compactness you have to reset the functions you want every time you turn the unit on IF you turn it OFF – or leave it on (which should not drain the battery very fast since the display turns off automatically in 12 minutes saving function choices and the last answer if not cleared).
I wanted a print function but will only need it very rarely, so the fact it prints in 2 colors – and takes either the “encased in the unit” small paper rolls (for portability) or full size paper rolls (a great flexible feature), is not of great importance to me. I just mainly needed a simple “arithmetic machine” for my desk that could run an occasional tape. This will do that. I believe that all the additional features would be more usable on a conventionally sized desk calculator with dedicated feature keys – but if you need to be able to print and to do complex functions with PORTABILITY (using the small encased paper rolls) I believe this is a very good unit for the price.
IF I find any issues with the calculator as I use it, I will update this review.

Don’t assume the “OFF” button is the “ON” button. It’s not. The “On” button is the “C-CE” button! Yep. Its role as an “ON” button is a secret that can be discovered by randomly pressing all the buttons until you hit the “C-CE” button, or by looking at the beige plastic surface between the “OFF” button and the “C-CE” button. That is where you’ll discover the word “ON” and you’ll see that it refers to the “C-CE” button. Next, I read the instructions and found the on function is the first thing listed. lol. But it is not very logical, IMO.
I almost returned the device because I could not turn it on! Other than that, this seems like a fine instrument.
