I have long, medium thick but fine hair. I am TERRIBLE at putting my hair up with Bobby pins (I dance professionally so I have lots of experience…and still suck). A friend did my hair for a show last year with these pins and I was sold. Finally bought my own and WOW! These photos show a style held firmly with just 3 pins! Would probably need more for dancing (but maybe not) but this is plenty for a normal day in the world. So take it from this hair dummy and buy some already. I can’t speak to the durability since I’ve only had them for about a week, but so far so good.

I’ve always wanted to achieve the messy bun look or a French twist, but I lack the skills and hair type. I often need to pull my hair out of my fair and look professional at the same time. I’m 48, and I’m told I look like a student when I put my hair in a ponytail. Sure, it’s great to be mistaken for a teenager at my age, but what it really tells me is that I don’t look polished. I can whip my hair up instantly with these hairpins and not look like a kid. I even managed a French twist on my first attempt. It only takes two pins to secure my collarbone-length fine hair. I can shake my head around any it stays secure as long as needed without making my head sore.

I’ve used metal u-clips in the past and those arepte effective at keeping hair in place. Based on the reviews I had high hopes that this product would work well for my thick hair, but after many attempts, I cannot recommend this product.
Sturdiness (not a match):
The hold is top floppy and lightweight to keep thick coarse hair in place for more than 2 seconds.
The clips are made of smooth plastic, making it nearly impossible to hold onto my hair. Even if I took the smallest strands (1/4 inch diameter bundle) and clipped these into a bun with hairspray reinforcement, my hair falls out after tilting my head down or any movement.
Versatility (poor):
The color is a pretty tortoise brown, and the length is too short to tuck away long hair. Maybe for chin length hair this could be used to tuck hair behind the ears, at most.

I have baby fine hair, and these clips hold better than any other clips I have tried! They hold all day, and do not slide out. They are also very gentle on my hair, and do not cause breakage. Easy to use.

I do think this style of clip works well, but the quality of this specific product is poor. These clips held well the first time I used them, but the next day when I tried to use them again they snapped in half.
My hair is thin and fine, so it’s not like I was trying to hold too much. I was actually impressed that they held quite well. I think the stress of using the clips once before was too much, though and the material is poor quality and won’t hold up to repeated use, which is disappointing.
I’ll be looking to replace them with a higher quality version of the same design clips.
