Good deal –
I bought mixer as we make all of our own bread here for the last 2 years. Our 6 qt, 590 watt bowl lift Kitchen Aid mixer just couldn’t handle it anymore. It would get overheated after only 4 minutes of neading the dough. This Bosch runs like a champ! 15 minutes of neading fresh ground hard white wheat dough and the motor is just barely warm. As I make bread for ourselves plus family and friends, neighbors, I needed a mixer that was tough enough to make several batches bread dough every week. I’ll keep my Kitchenaid mixer around for light cake batters and other light chores, but this Bosch Universal mixer will always be out front and ready to go on my baking counter

Great mixer. Sturdy and well made. Would have liked more recipes for bread making.

I am new to baking bread and cakes. I had used my Kitchen Aid in the past for random recipes, and it did an excellent job. However, after researching what more experienced home bakers were using to make dough, I bought the Bosch Universal Plus. I am in total awe of this little workhorse. It is lightweight, easy to use, and clean. I just purchased the stainless steel bowl and hooks. I am looking forward to adding more attachments in the future. Get this machine if you are serious about upping your cooking and baking game. I still use my Kitchen Aid and always will, but If I had to choose, it would be the Bosch all the way.

If you are spending this much on a mixer. You’ve hopefully done the research. This really is the best. I’ll never go back to Kitchen Aide. Flour no longer spills over the side and it works through the dough making my job easier!

We are in our 70s and needed a lighter weight mixer capable of kneading bread as well as normal mixing. An added benefit is the ease of adding flour etc while running the mixer. So far the only disadvantage is that it is not as easy to pour out mixes as from bowl mixers. We wish we had chosen stainless steel bowl because plastic is harder to keep completely grease free .

I liked it, but it was not the size I ordered, however, overall it was a really nice bread maker..

I cannot say enough good things about this mixer. The capacity is amazing and it can handle large quantities without missing a beat. It’s also low profile enough to sit out on the counter without feeling like it’s taking up a ton of valuable real estate. I also purchased some of the accessories and they all work well. I had a bowl-lift Kitchenaid before and I wish I had known about the Bosch before I got it. The Bosch is so much easier to use and can do larger batches without struggling like the Kitchenaid sometimes did. Worth every penny!

I ordered this to compare to my vintage Bosch (the original version of this mixer) from the 70s. This is pretty similar to that old Bosch with the following improvements:
-suction cup feet so the mixer doesn’t walk around (or off) the counter while kneading dough
-a bowl with a lip to surround the lid ring (this prevents the lid from popping off on large batches)
-the bowl edge is turned down like a little umbrella which gives improved gripping for transport
The motor of both the old and new is of similar power. I find it to bog down more than I prefer with large batches (above 7 lbs) of dough. I’ve made up to 5200g (11.2 lbs) of dough in this mixer and it will do it but it’s a strain on the motor.
One other drawback (or advantage depending on how you prefer to proof your dough) is that this mixer really heats up the dough. It’ll go from 65 or 70F up to 110F in 7 minutes of kneading. I personally prefer to keep the dough at room temp. A work around is to add ice to the water to knock the temp down before hand. So, although I don’t like the heating, it’s something that can be dealt with.
I will be returning the mixer and instead ordering a stainless bowl for my old Bosch mixer. I believe it may help with this heating issue. Additionally, it does away with the center column for a little more space for dough (about 200 additional grams). I ordered this mainly to compare and see if it was worth upgrading. I think the refinements are probably worth the price difference. But I instead am going to put that cost difference toward a stainless bowl and the drive/dough hook to match ($350 new just for this bowl and accessories!).
I’d used a 1981 Kitchenaid by Hobart for years and although an excellent mixer, the Bosch is also good product with a proven long lifespan. The Bosch can make 2x the amount of dough and the lid system is a lot cleaner than the open bown of the Kitchenaid.
I highly recommend ANY Bosch Universal Mixer!
