Very sturdy chain. I lock my motorcycle to a Kryptonite Stronghold Ground Anchor and it has been safe in my apartment parking lot for the past few months. The chain is just long enough to loop it through parts on my bike. The cloth cover is nice, but a little scratchy, so be careful when pulling the chain through any expensive painted bodywork. Have personally heard a police officer say “no one is cutting through that chain” when looking at it.
The U-lock is well built, and I appreciate the sliding plastic cover that keeps dirt out of the lock mechanism. I have had to add a little oil and graphite powder to the bottom of the U-piece due to some rust and dirt buildup, but nothing major. The included keys are nice, and one of them has a little blue flashlight built in to it.
Note, this is a very heavy chain, so probably not something you’ll want to lug around in a backpack.

Great product. Heavy, reliable. Likely very difficult for a thief to get through. Note, too heavy to bring on a cycle with you. But good to say, leave one at work or in a bike shed. Pricey though.

Likes: Very heavy duty chain and lock. Would take a lot of time to cut through with an angle grinder and could take some time to pick lock open unless one is a pro.
Dislikes: The New York Lock mechanism could be smoother and it is important to push the key in all the way in before turning or it sticks. I added a drop of Dry Teflon Lubricant to improve the smoothness. Just a reminder to NOT use thick lubricants because this will attract dust and dirt and possibly jam up your lock and you don’t want to have a lock that won’t open.
Overall, worth the money for more piece of mind.

This chain is 100% worth every penny. I’ve gone through maybe 6-7 different motorcycle locks and lock types. This is still my preferred locking mechanism over most that I use. The ONLY thing that would make this better is if the lock was alarmed. One good tip that I saw online that has been very good for me is, try to get your bike close to something solid and you can use this chain to chain your bike to a static object. I figured this would be assumed but I actually only thought about using it to lock the tire up so the tire couldn’t move. Since then I’ve been locking my bike to my car rim every night and it’s been great! I’ve come to my bike twice now where the cover has been removed from it, I’d like to assume someone saw the chain and said, fahgetaboutit.

Best news is that I still have my ebike and I’m in an area where they get stolen often. So, the lock works! But it is a project to carry and use it. It’s not particularly long so you need to be very close to whatever you’re locking to, and the chain links are so big that they will not fit through most spokes, and so heavy that you need to take care not to lock to a part of your bike that might be damaged by supporting the lock’s weight. For me, it’s all worth it, but it is honestly not an easy lock to operate.

Using for a 1600 dollar electric bike with about another 500 dollars in accessories. If a thief gets through this they deserve the bike for all the hard work that will be required to cut through the chain or the lock

I don’t think anyone can look at a kryptonite lock and want to steal what’s attached to it. It always does the trick. But it’s very heavy unfortunately. I’ll still use it since I bike in the city often. It’s what’s advertised and definitely a bang for your buck. Sometimes I don’t even need to lock it against anything. Locking the front wheel is enough to deter a thief if I’m just doing a quick in-and-out pickup. Heavy duty is an understatement however, this thing is a tank.

This lock and chain is insane.. I bought it to lock up my electric scooter but when I got it even I thought it was overkill on the security, lol. The lock opens smoothly and has heft to it. The biggest complaint I’ve read about here and have now experienced first hand is the weight, but seriously were they expecting a 10/10 lock to be light? This thing is not for everyone but I’m definitely glad I got it.

Lo primero que ves al recibirlo es que el peso está relacionado con la seguridad esperada.
Pesa mucho, mucho.
Pero cuando ves el tamaño de los eslabones y la calidad del candado, te das cuenta de que cada gramo de peso es una inversión en seguridad.
Metal reforzado, candado de seguridad y un aspecto inmejorable.
No está pensado para bicis de paseo o carrera, sino para bicis eléctricas o motocicletas, que requieren más seguridad y que van a cargar con el peso.
Poner este candado en una bicicleta que pesa 2 kg y añadirle los 3 del candado, es una buena opción de seguridad si la bicicleta es cara, pero es una mala inversión en reducir peso de la bici para ponérselo después de vuelta.
Muy recomendable, pero sabiendo lo que compras.
