The bike rack is easy to setup and take off of my Chevy Volt. It takes me about 2 minutes to install and about 1 minute to remove the bike rack. It takes me a couple of minutes to load and strap in my electric mountain bike .
The bike rack is well built and looks good. My only complaint is it is a little heavy. Not a big deal.

My sons race BMX bikes, one is an expert classic with 20” tires and the other is a mini classic with 20” tires. The bike rack was so easy to install and everything seemed to be going well. I was so excited to find a bike rack that didn’t require a hitch. Then, I tried installing the bikes, and that’s where the heartbreak happened. The bikes wouldn’t fit on the rack. The gaps in the frames on BMX bikes are small, because that’s the way they’re built, and they were too small to fit on this rack. I attached a video. I had to dance the bigger one (expert) on there and I scratched the frame doing so, and it wouldn’t rest on the rubber part without much force and additional scratching the the frame. Then, the mini wouldn’t even dance on, let alone fit at all! I was bummed! I had to return it. Now I have to put a hitch on my vehicle and get a hitch bike rack so I can stand them up, since the frame gaps are so small, I don’t think any of these kinds of racks will work. Stinks! I gave it three stars because other than it not being able to work with BMX bikes, I really do think it’s a great rack!

I am not sure exactly what happened or how it happened. I installed the rack and used it twice. Everything seemed to be okay. The rack was installed exactly as stated.
I went to remove the rack because of impending rain and as lifted the hatch to remove the bottom and heard a bending noise. The piece to the rack was bent as was my car. I am not sure if the piece on the rack (TOP) had the bend when I first put it on the car. I doubt it; but I am not sure I would have noticed. If I had installed it incorrectly, (it was perfectly centered), both sides would have suffered the same fate. As to the car, the body shop cannot quite figure out what happened; but they have agreed that there is no way that I could have bent the hook on the rack. I have added pictures. I got in touch with the Seller directly who told me that they would not refund, perhaps Amazon will. Note that Yakima does have a warranty up to a year on a defective part so the Seller’s explanation makes no sense. When I first received the item it looked like the box had been re-taped; so it is possible I missed the defect when I first received the item. I am sending the rack back via Amazon returns and we will see. Yakima claims to not be responsible when a product damages the vehicle as per their warranty, the same one that should allow for a return of the rack.
I am wholly and thoroughly disappointed with this experience beyond the $900+ damage to the car. The rack seemed like it was going to be great but that is not the case. If nothing else, I would not buy this product because if it bent then there is something shoddy about it. I further am always a little disappointed when parties don’t want to honor their product returns and pass things off to others so quite honestly, if the Seller does not refund my money, I will write a separate review. As of now, my first conversation with them went great. The last email thread, not-so-much.

Our first rack had a ‘sticky’ left arm lock that stopped moving at all after just a couple uses, which was upsetting, but Yakima customer service is great and they are sending us a new one. Assuming on the new one all three locks work smoothly, I really, really like the design of this rack; it’s easy to install and feels very solid and secure. Bikes don’t move at all! Hoping the new one coming will have better locking mechanisms.

Make sure you check Yakima for the correct fit. They had photo of my car with side and rear fit showing where it should be on car. It is 35 pounds so dry fit it before you bring it to car. I took a couple of more adjustments and it fit tight. I went to park with 2 bikes it is was solid. No movement side to side and no bumping as we rode up and down. I had a Yakima trunk rack 8-10 years old and this was superior in every way to the older version. It was the recommended rack from the Subaru dealer for my car. The dealer suggested this rack over the rack for the top of the car.

We were looking for a 3-bike rack that fit my wife’s Audi Q3. This rack is a great fit, is very sturdy in relation to less expensive racks. No problem carrying 3 bikes on a long trip, the rack didn’t budge. Versatile mounting options…you can mount the rack with straps in “anchor” mode so it works on vehicles with a lift gate as well as trunk mount. Yakima’s site has a vehicle fit check to ensure it will work with your vehicle. Instructions were very clear and concise. We have also owned Yakima hitch mount and roof mount racks. Quality products.
