I used this on the freeway for the first time and it held up very well. I had a mountain bike on it and it did not come off at all. Folding it away is a bit tough so I keep it as it is in my trunk. I have yet to put two bikes on it. One of straps came undone so that is a bit of problem you might have.

I bought a bike in June and that was hard enough to find, given the global bike shortage during Covid-19, but nobody local had any trunk/hatch mounted bike racks at all, and no idea when they’d be in stock again. I found this one online and for less than what I would have paid in store. It took a while to arrive (not the seller’s fault – Covid has disrupted everything lately and the initial shipment estimate was accurate) but I received it yesterday and set it up with ease in minutes & was off for a ride soon after. It is very sturdy and seems good quality. Highly recommend!

This bike rack seemed a little intimidating at first especially since it was the first time that I ever installed one. Although, I did have to ask for help with putting the pins in, but after that, it was easy to configure to my car. I was a little nervous at first to hold 2 bikes up, but it proved to be sturdy.

Really great rack for occasional use. Goes on and off Honda Civic easily. It folds down for storage/ doesn’t take up much room when not being used.
It can be easily taken off or stolen off car so it’s not good for leaving unattended. It is perfect for what I need it for

I bought this bike rack a few weeks ago and was kind of concerned it wouldnt be very good since the price was so low, but it is great actually. It definitely does the job it is intended to do without any problems. It is insanely easy to set up – just unfold, insert the pins that hold it open, two hooks on top of the trunk, one hook on the bottom of the trunk, tighten the straps to fit and youre done! Loading the bike is easy too since the nylon stablization strap are easy to loop and easy to tighten (easier than the rubber kind that I dont think tighten as well). The rack is very stable as I drive – even 80 mph on the freeway and over bumps. Turns are my only concern since this rack lacks alot of side-to-side stablization I take turns a bit slowly. I also do not know if I would trust two bikes on this rack – more because I would worry about the weight the rack would apply to my car than because I think the rack couldnt handle it. The way this rack is designed, the more weight it is carrying, the harder it rests on and presses into the trunk. too much weight and I would be afraid there would be damage at the contact points. But for one bike it is great and I havent had any damage to my car. The peddles do not scratch your car like some other review said and the rack does not swing. I would suggest 3 or 4 bungie cords to help keep the bike in place on the rack and to keep the front from rotating back and forth and to keep the wheels from spinning as you drive. If you just need a simple bike rack for getting your own bike from point A to point B, this is a great, handy little rack for a great price! If you need to drive very long distances, very curvey distances with lots of sharp turns, or you need to be carrying two bikes all the time, maybe invest in something heavier duty.

Before I get into the model specifics here’s some of my general insight.
1. Seems to be a high-quality product. Well constructed and sturdy. The two top brackets that attaches to the car are NOT coated with anything other than paint. I think I’m going to have to come up with something to help protect my car’s paint where it attached to the area just above my back window. Maybe some tape or some of the rubberized spray you can find at local hardware stores.
2. The only area that come in to contact WITH THE BIKE ITSELF are the two rubber brackets that the top bar of the frame sit on. I’m not sure if that rubber will FULLY protect the bike below the bar. It’s not very soft and I think I’m going to have to wrap by crossmember with something to protect the finish on my bike. The brackets that tighten around and hold the bike to the carrier is nothing more that a manual pull strap. While it seems to hold the bike well I don’t really care for the strap mechanism and is another reason I need to come up with a wrap for my frame. It’s made of plastic and although it’s not metal, it looks like it could do some damage to the frame if going on a longer trip.
3. The metal bars that comprise most of this unit seem to be more that strong enough to handle the weight of two bikes.
4. It holds the bike securely and is pretty quick to attach to the vehicle.
Now the vehicle specifics. I read different reviews and couldn’t determine if this rack would work with my Prius. The Mfg. web site said the only one that would fit was the 3 bike model. (another $40+ dollars) Others, who have tried to use this claimed success. Well, I claim success as well with an asterisk. Why?? The bottom bracket that rests on the back of the car is adjustable up and down. When I tried full extension down part of the metal bar came way to close to the painted plastic/fiberglass area just above the license plate. I adjusted the bar above that area but, like others mentioned, it rides on the Prius decal….but just a little bit. I don’t think this is a deal breaker and this part of the car won’t be damaged. For one…It’s one of the anchor points that has a very soft and pliable foam covering. And, it only touches the outer edges of the decal.
For the initial install I attached the bottom strap to the bottom of the car even though there is no metal down there to attach it to. (a bit flimsy) I plan on using one of the alternate methods described in the instructions that utilizes the bottom of the hatchback instead of the underside of the car. This change should also allow me to open by hatchback without taking the rack off of my car. I think. 😉 (I hope)
I have a few trips planned and I’ll post an update down the road and adjust my rating if need be. I think this is a very solid rack and it will provide years of reliable service. Cheers.
