I always heard growing up in the 80’s, “Timex takes a lickin’ and keeps on tickin!”
But I always got knock off el-cheapo versions (in hindsight VERY smart on behalf of my mom) and they always broke at the band where the pin connects, and then the illumination which was typically a half lit dull yellow incandescent looking thing- would stop working – and I’d lose them or they’d break permanently. We’re talking about $3.99-$8.99 kids watches from K-Mart here after all.
After I got older and had money to buy my own Timex, but what did I do? Started with a Movado & fell in love with Swiss made Chronograph Quartz movement watches. 92 Rolex Daytona through the 2020 Daytona. A Jacob in the early part of the 21st century. A half dozen Patek Phillipe & 2 Richard Mille. A that literally cost more than my parents house.
While I still have a very expensive and admirable collection (kept safely in a vault that would take the crew from The Italian Job to get at, get in- getting it out of my house would present their biggest problem.
So despite all the time pieces of 50K to 600K (except my Movados, they’re all $1000 or less. In fact my favorite is the 1st one I got at TJ max for $179. It is sold on here and on Movado’s own site for $500-1500, but it’s not worth that much, trust me. It’s the museum classic which made Movado. A nothing nobody brand into a stunning watch for a fraction of a percent of a Patek, and even the most expensive Movado is still less than 5% of the cost of a Rolex. A 48,000 dollar Rolex.
So my review of this watch: I never got my Timex as a kid, and strayed away to the moon on my watch collection, but I needed a digital watch that’s waterproof, sporty, has chronograph and alarms and timers indiglo and all the cool stuff a tough little watch has.
This one is better than I have been expecting all these years. Lol I know it sounds silly but I wear my Timex now and leave the trays of mansions and Ferrari’s and Range Rovers, Bimmers & Audis, Rolls Royce’s and Mercedes G-wagon AMG V12 898hp w/1576ft-lbs of torque, 0-60 in 3.1 seconds- Yeah, that is the kind of $ in watches- but they are all 100% flawless. A perpetual investment. I have jewelers offering me as much as I paid or more – considering the inflation – i wouldn’t actually make $ but it would seem as though I had – and I would have it to use for the bigger heated pool or whatever. The next condo in Breckenridge or Jackson Hole.
Where I’ll be sporting my Timex ironman!! ⌚😀
My Fav feature i discovered this morning – ok so last week i pressed down and held the indiglo button for like 5 or 10 seconds. It went beep beep. or maybe just one beep … it displayed a crescent 🌙 moon. Cool! But… what does it do? So I decided I’d read the instructions – it’s only been a month or so – might as well. They’re not instructions, just a warranty and some other information/disclaimers etc., in 500 different languages.
Okay, so I guess I won’t be doing that!
And I just forgot about it.
Then this morning I realized that with it on, the indiglo would come on regardless of the buttons I pressed. So it’s a little indiglo lock on and of hidden secret 🤫.
    Awesome though.
I have alarms set for 0530 & 17:30 so my pup knows it’s his breakfast and dinner time. And the 3rd is for my weekend nap WHICH I am missing right now! Thanks guys… JK
BUT seriously, great watch, comfortable band, easy to figure out how to make everything work, and set to your liking. And it’s only 40 or 50 Bucks. Sweet! Good — No, Great deal.
Oh and it doesn’t tick, but I have been inadvertently giving it a “lickin” and it still digits? is that a word? KEEPS ON BEEPING (But you can shut that off same with the chime for the top of the hour that’s obnoxious)
    Get Yours! 👍🏽

My 5th Timex Ironman has held up well for 2 years and 3 months, but alas…water has finally infiltrated it! This is the first time that has happened. I’ll try one more, and if that one fails, that will be IT for me. Good luck, Timex! It’s been a great run, but I DO have standards and expectations to uphold.

I have worn an Ironman watch for years. This one has a larger screen. I’ve started wearing reading glasses so it’s actually the reason I ordered it! Love it.

Watch is light weight. Has a good feel on the wrist and easy to read during the day and easy to read with the indigo back light at night. I have large wrists and this size is good. For smaller people it might be to large. The functions work well and its water tight. Its durable and keeps on ticking.

This is my third watch I’ve had in the last 10 years. I bought my first one in 2014 when I was doing triathlons. My second one just died after surfing/working in a hospital with it for the last 3-4 years. I could of just changed the battery but for $40 and it will last, I thought hmmm let’s just get a new one.

No complaints! Shipping arrived in 2 days, and the price can’t be beat. If you are looking for a simple watch to wear and not having to worry about getting it messed up this is it! I had a garmin 410xt that I had to charge etc but this watch is extremely convenient and comfortable. High recommend!

I’ve been wearing Timex Ironman watches for at least 25 years. I’m a retired plumber and I’ve always wore them for work. I specialized in water treatment, water purification and pump systems and used the timer on the watch to test many of the systems (pumping rates, etc.). I originally purchased a Timex watch as my first watch because my Dad always wore a Timex watch (like father, like son). As Timex’s old TV ads said “they take a licking and keep on ticking”. These watches would last at least 5 years in my tough working environment (dust, dirt, water, banging into objects). I purchased a Timex Ironman model TW5M48400 oversize watch from Walmart for $67.00 in August of 2022. On our flight to Mexico on December 30, 2023 the light quit working. On January 5, 2024 I was surf casting in Mexico and a large wave knocked me over into the surf (about 24″ of water) on the beach. Moisture showed up on the inside of the watch face and it quit working. I removed the wrist strap and the four screws from the back of the watch and removed the body of the watch from it’s case to put it into rice to try to dry it out. When I removed the back of the watch I found that the sealing O-ring was broken. I believe this was the location where water leaked into the watch. This was the first time the watch had ever been opened since I purchased it. When I contacted Timex they wouldn’t do anything to help me because the one-year warranty period was over in August 2023. I understood that the light wouldn’t be covered under the warranty but I could have used the watch without the light. I do not understand why water leaking into the watch would not be covered under warranty because the watch leaked from a manufacturer’s defect, that is, the broken O-ring. I really like Timex Ironman oversize watches, so I decided to give Timex one more chance. On March 4, 2024 I purchased this Timex Men’s Ironman Classic 30 Oversized Quartz Sport Watch with Resin Strap, Gray, 20 (Model: TW5M485009J) from Amazon for $90.00. As per my previous watches, I really like it! After 47 years I’ve closed down my plumbing business and retired, so I expect this new watch to last for at least 5 years. Maybe my one star ratings for the light and water resistance are unfair but that rating is for the previous Timex Ironman model TW5M48400 oversize watch that failed. I understand that some people could be scamming Timex for warranty but I did not try to scam them. I believe that Timex could have warrantied my previous watch when the back cover O-ring leaked after 17 months of use. Just saying …….!
