LJ Shen always finds a way to amaze me with her honesty in all of her characters. I loved this book. There are themes of death and insecurity throughout the book, it was such a different and honest take on how people experience life. I cried three times but just couldn’t put the book down – ending up reading all night. Whether you like the characters or not, they all had depth and were 100% themselves. There are so many morals in this novel and it’s still making me thing hours after I’ve finished.
Spoiler:
There were so many emotional twists and turns that it was hard to keep up. Some of the twists in the plot were a little obvious but the emotionally wrenching feelings that the characters felt were completely real. The guilt and just self blame for so many scenarios that are completely out of peoples control was so real.
Leaving Seph and coming back. So frustrating that he kept taking her back. So many of the relationships in this book were so toxic of people hiding secrets and not just coming out with it and speaking their mind. That’s what makes the book ofcourse because it’s what people do in real life – hide away from their feelings, feel entitled, and give their family members a pass on the bs they do even when it’s wrong.

Due to a life altering event, Ever ends up running from the life she once had. Six years later, she lives in Salem, Massachusetts living a new life.
To describe anything else about this book would completely spoil at least one part of the book. I originally started this book a few months ago but was in a different mindset. I ended up getting about 2 chapters in and moving on to another book. It’s not that I didn’t like this book, I just wasn’t captured by it at that time. I decided to give it another go a few days ago and I’m sure glad I did.
There’s sadness, hurt, and despair throughout this book. Watching Ever heal her old wounds and find herself again was uplifting. It shows that mental health is real but with the help of others, we can face our demons and find ourselves again.

I didn’t know that I was going to cry so much reading this book. The storyline was heartwrenching, full of loss, and time spent unfulfilled. But, also love. Ever and Joe meet again and again through kismet. Her fear and insecurity cause her to run away, and coincidence brings Joe back to her.
Their love is powerful enough to get them through it all.
Ever makes decisions while grieving that change the course of her and Joe’s lives. She punishes herself for things beyond her control. Joe always has hope that they will be together in the end.

I will be honest, the beginning of the book already had me wondering if I was going to like it and unfortunately it just got worst. The first interactions were so cringe… Like taken out of Wattpad or Tumblr. Not what I’m used from this author, and as the book progressed I was wondering were she was going with this, specially when the love triangle appeared, It reminded me to teenage drama in the early 2k. Definitely not my cup of tea. I skipped half of the book but it was well written, cohesive and had great characters.

This book started like a roller coaster, or more like a cluster f***. Just bonkers everything that happens in the first half of the book, then the last half is exhausting and ending is forgettable. Written very well and the storytelling is there. It was hard for me to get over the FMC’s self loathing and “it’s all my fault, I don’t deserve to be happy,” attitude. She hurt everyone more pitying herself. Steamy parts were steamy, but could’ve been better. Ended on a good note, but I was expecting more, considering the roller coaster start, it should be more consistent throughout the whole book. Why not give everyone the happy ending we want, but also make it shocking somehow, like the rest? The “removal” of one character seems like a cop out so the other two can finally be together, like too easy. They are messy, let it be messy. One last thing, I wish the FMC wasn’t so mousey or weak. She does come into her own later and yes she’s been through tragedy, but she needed a little inner bad-assery. 🙂

There’s something’s so vividly raw and satisfying about reading how these two found the strength to pull each other out of their lowest points all while searing each others skin in an effort to cling on to what they once had. So beautiful and powerful yet dark and heart wrenching. I can’t wait to read more from Shen.

I wasn’t in the mood for romance, i accidentally opened this on my kindle, i was hooked from page one. I enjoyed this book so much, all the emotions, it’s one of these „life stories, not love stories“. It spoke to me on a very personal level. It’s very near and dear to my heart now.

I haven’t read a book in a longtime that’s made me feel so many emotions. I devoured this in 48hrs and immediately went back to re-read the beginning. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and picked it up randomly, but i’m so glad I did. If you have this on your tbr definitely dont delay reading it if you’re in need of a heart-wrenching second chance romance. Im going to be thinking of these characters for a while and definitely will do a full re-read ince my heart can take it! Bravo.
