I started reading this book not knowing what to expect. I absolutely loved it! Vivian has a way into your heart.

Predictable happy ending, but that is what is so fun and comforting about reading this kind of book. I loved it.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I have been married for nearly 50 years, I do not drink, an am more than 20 years older than Vivian, and have a daughter (no son). The only thing I can say we have in common is residing in a cul-de-sac. Even so, I found the story grabbed me and kept my attention to the point of staying up WAY past my bedtime so I could continue reading. If you like to read in order to escape/slow down your racing mind (but do not fancy ‘fantasy’ books), then I recommend this book. For readers of my generation who don’t want detailed bedroom scenes, this book refrains from being too graphic. For those that want church-approved language, sorry but there is some cursing (including the F-word a few times). For me, the events or situation warranted the use of strong language– even if I, personally, wouldn’t use them. I guess I am trying to say that they aren’t overused, as has become typical today.

This book was almost there. It started out promising to be actually interesting. But it slowly devolved into a corny and confusing mess. The main character turned into one those overbearing and doting mothers who feel they have to everything for their baby boy. Of course the baby is nineteen and in college but she treats him like an infant. On the verge of divorce and floundering she finally sees the light. Boring.

What a neat story and so pleasantly presented. A New York stage wife and mother and two friends have spent years sharing their stories,problems, and child rearing advice. Now, with grown children, they still want to share their lives and form Mom Scouts. The leader of the group, Vivian, finds divorce papers in her husband’s sock drawer. Totally shocked, she calls a meeting of the Mom Scouts to discuss what she should do. Thus begins the prelude to divorce and the terrible knowledge that Vivian faces some hard truth that she is worthless. Despite the success of her YOU TUBE channel, she is lost. You will love the cunning and spinning in which they indulge in go. Get the cheated to move out. Especially the ending.

Kilpatrick’s characters are so well developed it’s easy to convince myself that there is a cul-de-sac somewhere in Atlanta where every Wednesday night three friends (and occasionally a few others) gather with camp chairs, a box of Cheez-Its, and a bottle of wine – and their Mom Scout tumblers – as they discuss the ups and downs of friendship, work, love, life, and overly-zealous HOA presidents. This is a story of betrayal, new beginnings, growth, family relationships, romantic possibilities, and rock-solid friendships that may stretch but never break. It’s a fun, fast story with authentic emotional depth that had me laughing out loud and wiping away tears, exactly what I’ve come to expect from Kilpatrick.

Loved Vivian from the start making me laugh,cringe and will her on while thrust into the unexpected she found herself again. Identified with the feelings as a divorcee too and finding out who I was too.
