Best book I’ve read in a long time. Cried several times and ached for the little girl, the Aunt, The Doctor, the brother in law…termite. This book did an amazing job giving information and transmitting feelings from the mind to the heart. Thank you Mr. Martin for a well written read.

I’ve read so many of Charles Martin’s book, almost all. When Crickets Cry is so touching, endearing and informative. The characters attach to your heart immediately. The twists and turns keep u from putting the book down. I loved this book, love this author. I’ll miss the characters.❤️

It’s been a long time since I’ve had a book affect me like this one. I finished it in a couple days, and then started it all over again from page 1. I just didn’t want to let it go. Clearly this will be one of my top ten of all time. Not only are the characters compelling and the prose exceptionally beautiful, the story builds with little hints along the way of what is to come. I was totally gutted at the ending, in a really positive way. I will be thinking of this one for years to come.

If you like good literature then this book is for you. Charles Martin has the ability to use the written word to describe a person’s inner feelings and fears. The main character has suffered a traumatic experience and has retreated and rejected his former life and friends. His emotional climb back to his former self is beautifully described. We begin to understand his dilemma and his inner demons.
His writing reminds me of the style of James Lee Burke. Whereas the latter describes crimes and their consequences, the former describes personal failures and how they affect, not only your own, but other people who are close to you.

I seriously did not want to put this book down, but I had to because it was so emotional. I had to read it in little bits, pray, and digest all of it.

The characters are so real that I had no problem keeping them straight, even though the story went from present to past quite frequently. It unfolded in a way that you could never be quite sure where it was going or how it would turn out and leaves enough unanswered questions that you would definitely read a follow-up!

A very good book about an extremely talented and caring doctor and how he finally learned to hear.

I couldn’t stop reading until hours after I should have been asleep. The ending was such a surprise! I felt like I was right beside the characters.

Once you’ve read a novel by Charles Martin, you know 2 things: you’re going to cry, and you’re going to laugh! When Crickets Cry is the story of a man haunted by his past, and a little girl who needs him to let go, and let God! As always, there are very colorful characters, with a few surprise drop-ins, and this was no different. The topic isn’t nearly as dark as The Water Keeper, which was my first Charles Martin novel, but this one hits the heart just as hard! Now…which of his books will I read next???

Would’ve given 5 stars but, I felt the end was a bit confusing. Still, greatly enjoyed this book. The characters and story will stay with me for a while.

I read this book many years ago. I read it again. One of the things that I always remembered from the first time I read it was “The Well” I love that place. This book is so good. I relearned about the heart. I couldn’t put this book down.
