This group of biographies is well researched but written in an accessible style. Not only does the author collect the stories of these incredible women of history, but she challenges us to follow their example and “step out of line,” too.
Mark Orlando –
With the exception of the last two chapters I thought it was a great book. Loved hearing the stories of these women from WWII. The last two chapters were the author on her soapbox. The other chapters were the right length and we’ll written.
Jimmie L. Marmot –
Wondered why I had not read or heard much about WAACs or WAVEs while growing up? Who knew their records were capped “Secret” until thirty years after the war? Fascinating generation of women! Enlightening. Wish I had an opportunity to meet some of these outstanding ladies while they were still alive. Highly recommend!!!
Donna Hogan –
One of the most fascinating books I have read in a really long time. These women’s stories are unbelievable but as they all pretty much said “we were just doing our job”.
Bravo Mari K. Eder! Brilliantly done!
Jan Stockton –
When duty called, women stepped forward to serve their country, protect their culture, and to help assure that future opportunities would be available to the younger generations who followed them.
Each chapter, written as an individual biographical sketch of the women who served, weaves together their experiences, legacies, and gifts to America, creating a tapestry of WWII from a different perspective. The author captured the strength, courage, and resiliance of these women who helped win the war and who received little or no recognition for their service.
Thank you Mari K. Eder for bringing their gifts to future generations to light and for sharing the little known histories of THE GREATEST GENERATION!
Well done!

This book was about women who stood up and made a difference who fought anti-Semitic movement. What a great tribute to the women who served in WWII. However I took a few stars away for the fact the other list Rep. Ilhan Omar as a great woman forging for women. While Rep Omar deserves the honors listed. Its just not a place for her in this book. Maybe a different book but this one is a slap in the face of the women who fought so hard to free the Jewish people. She is on record for anti-Semitic rants. Its tragic because this was a great book. But it is disservice to those whom this book is meant to honor to have her Rep Omar listed with these women. Like I said, she should be honored for her achievement in other ways but this book isnt the place.

Heavy read- but so inspiring as a woman. This book is massive proof that women are on another level. They definitely stepped up during WWII and then when they were shoved back into traditional gender roles after the war. They went from being total no-quit badasses to the traditional housewife, then still fought for what they wanted out of life, (never letting their badass-ery flames die) clearing the way for those of us today to do whatever the heck we want.
It was so invigorating to see what women can live through and made me realize that despite our build, we are SO strong, mentally and physically with what these women lived through. For the first time in my life it made me proud to be a woman, and I think all young women and girls need to read this book to really see what we are capable of accomplishing in real life, not just fairytales. Truly an amazing read.
Thank you to the author for helping these women’s stories get out, and for her added words. (And for her military service) It made me want to join in and continuing helping the girls and women of the world see how amazing we are.

I liked that each chapter was the self-contained story of a woman who had stepped out of the traditional line during WWII. I read this book during a busy time, so I appreciated that I could take a break to read one chapter and then go back to work.
