I used this book as a topic of Unit Study during our homeschool this year. I have spent the last few weeks teaching my daughter about the Gold Rush. This book is great. It had many interesting facts and is very well written. Even younger children can understand the content. My daughter is 9 and is an above average reader for her age. She enjoyed this book very much. She learned a lot. Definitely worth the read.

I teach 4th grade, and every year we learn about the Gold Rush and then have a 49er Day. I read this book to my students so that they can learn all about the Gold Rush. They love it and learn so much!

We were studying the Gold Rush in their history class, so the kids read this book. I would say these books are a 3rd or 4th grade level. My sixth graders read it and liked it, but it was a very quick and easy read for them. My fourth grader was easily able to read it, but it wasn’t as quick for him. He, in particular, loves the “What Is..” and “Who Was…” books. Full of good information about the Gold Rush. It makes a great supplementary resource on the subject. Or a great non-fiction reading book for a kid who isn’t into fiction.
