Maybe if we start listening when we’re young enough we’ll keep listening all our lives.

    Beautiful book. Well said. Listen.

I LOVE this book and bought it to share with my 2 (almost 3) year old twin grandchildren. This is a sweet story about what happens when something difficult happens. Different animals show up to offer their ‘unhelpful’ help … but rabbit just SHOWS UP to be WITH. And that’s enough. And that’s just the right thing needed most. I’ve already bought two more copies as gifts for friends.

This amazing book has become a part of our daily reading routine. My 3.5-year-old toddler adores it, and when I read it to his class, all the kids loved it too. The illustrations are beautiful, and the pace is slow and gentle. While reading this book, we engage in a lot of discussion as I explain to my son the meaning of each page and its beautiful lessons about various emotions, the importance of listening, and how to handle difficult situations.

This is a great story for children who are experiencing big emotions or who want to help a friend going through a difficult time. It is also a sweet reminder to adults. I gave two copies away to adults in difficult circumstances. I love this story, the illustrations, and the many messages you can take from it! Well worth getting for your collection and gifting to others!

It’s rare to have an absolute favorite picture book that surpasses every other children’s book, but this one has been my favorite for over a year due to it’s thoughtful and poignant message for kids dealing with disappointment and failure. I have ordered many copies of this book to gift at baby showers, birthdays, holidays, and also to give to kids and adults struggling with grief. This book is a masterpiece. It deserves all the recognition in the world for distilling a hard concept into an animal-filled story that’s engaging for kids and meaningful for adult readers. I literally cannot sing enough praises about this incredible book.

This is a lovely book with lots of scope for discussion of emotions and how to understand sad and/or angry emotions. The text and illustrations are very good. I shared it with a seven-year-old who is having some difficulties with controlling emotions and asked for her view about the book and what age they felt it was suitabile for. She decided it was too upsetting for 6 year olds or younger, because it would make them feel very sad when the birds knocked down the beautiful building – it made her sad but she said she could deal with it because she was seven but could not have dealt with it when she was even a bit younger. She liked the rest of it but it did unsettle her a bit as she identified closely with the emotions that are still, for her (in different circumstances) still hard to manage. A useful book to have on hand for a range of children who are at that 5-8 stage of development.
