Alex is a Half Blood, a children of a pure blood and a human, her destiny has only two paths, or become sentinel, the ones who fight against the Daimons, or to be a servant. After a shocking situation Alex is saved from the Daimons by Aiden, a handsome and forbidden pure blood sentinel, Alex is taken back to the covenant where she news to fight and demonstrate that she deserves to be there and deserves the chance to be a sentinel. Aiden offers to help her and train her so she can prove she can do it. But Alex is a snarky and stubborn and she can’t stay still (still don’t know if that’s something good or bad)

This book has a lot of Greek mythology, and I love it! the vibes in this book, omg are amazing. Aiden is such a DREAM…he is handsome, he is intelligent, he is caring, and patient, but he is forbidden, and omg please help me because it only makes me want him more and more. The forbidden situation makes the story 100 times more interesting, and even more when this guy Seth arrives.
I have to admit I’m scared about a “love triangle” but I have read other reviews that say we don’t new to worry “a lot” bout that sooo Im so intrigued (#TeamAiden rn)

This book has everything, romance, action, fantasy, handsome boys, even an amazing plot twist, and is amazing (just as everything JLA writes), Idk what took me so long to start this, but Im so glad i finally did it.

Half Blood was an interest concept in a world with many different kinds of demigod stories.
I was worried it would feel too tired of a genre but I actually enjoyed it enough to pre order the rest of the series!
It’s nothing fancy, it’s a nice read, and it kept me intrigued despite a unexpected start to the book.

I’m currently re-reading this series for the second time, and I’m only now getting around to writing this down, but here’s what I remember from the day I stumbled over this series: I remember reading the synopsis for this book, thinking, holy crap, I have to read this right freaking now. Greek mythology, badass female warrior, and romance that puts the “forbidden” in forbidden romance? Count me in. Needless to say, I went and ordered every book that was out at this point and then got the eBook, so I didn’t have to wait until the books get there. I ended up going through the first three books before I ever held the paperbacks in my hands. And yes, it’s simply that good.

Half-Blood is one of those books you completely drown in. You lose your sense of space and time and return to the real world hours and hours later, still craving more. I can’t believe I haven’t read this series in years. Right from the start, there’s action. Alex is on the run, trying to evade a group of Daimons after losing her mother and having her entire life ripped apart by the seams, again. The first few chapters are fast-paced. It’s a lot to take in all at once, but Jen gradually untangles the characters we meet and then takes the time to walk you through this mythological world she’s building. Alex is, to this day, years later, still my absolute favorite. She’s fierce, loyal, and tough-as-nails. Her particular brand of sassiness completes the package and brings humor and playful banter to the story. But beyond her smart-mouth, which is more defense mechanism than anything else, she’s also vulnerable and a seventeen-year-old girl, worrying about things that seventeen-year-old girls worry about.

Don’t even get me started on her totally forbidden, sex-on-legs, pureblood trainer, Aiden. He’s mature beyond his age, loyal, protective, and everything I ever wanted in a guy. Their chemistry is off the charts from the get-go and only gets better with time. And while there’s another guy, lovely Seth, introduced to the story about half-way through, I always was and always will be Team Aiden. The stakes have never been higher; it’s forbidden romance at its best.

The plot is well-paced. The world-building is on point. There are twists and turns that make your heart race a million miles an hour, and before you know it, there’s more at stake than Alex’s dream of becoming a Sentinel. Long story short: Half-Blood is a phenomenal start into an equally outstanding series. From humor to angst to forbidden romance to action and a fantastic set of secondary characters, this book has it all. Must-read for every fantasy lover out there.

  4. Liz’s Book Bucket List

I didnโ€™t think it was possible to like a series by Armentrout more than I liked the Lux series, but this might just become my favorite series by her! It is SO good! I know a lot of people like this series and I am not sure why I waited so long to pick it up, but I am excited that I am now getting to experience this series for the first time.

The writing is just like all of Armentroutโ€™s other booksโ€ฆaddictive, amazing and fun. The world building is great. I like how intricate it is already and it is only book one! I normally donโ€™t find myself gravitating towards books that have Greek mythology, but it really added a great element to the story. I also liked that there were so many twists and turns I never seen coming and I found myself staying up late to finish reading.

The character development in this book was great. I really liked Alex, but she did seem like the somewhat stereotypical heroine in these types of books. She is sassy, strong, bottles up her emotions and makes rash decisions that end up putting her and the people she loves in danger. Some of her decisions in this book did annoy me, but she had other redeeming personality traits that made her slowly grow on me. I hope that in future books, she will not make as many rash decisions just to drive the plot forward.

Aiden, the main romantic interest, was also somewhat stereotypical. He was the quiet, brooding, protective type. However, that is good for me since I really enjoy those characters. However, I am really interested in Seth (the other romantic interest, maybe?). I am excited to learn more about him in the next book and delve deeper into getting to know his history.

One thing I really LOVED about this book was the growing relationships. I felt the friendship between Caleb and Alex was really sincere and heart-warming. They were there for each other and their relationship never felt forced. I also like the relationship between Aiden and Alex. There was just so much angst, which I love! I cannot wait to see how their relationship progresses. They might even beat out my OTP of Katy and Daemon (which will be really hard to do!).

This book does get compared to Vampire Academyโ€ฆa lot! When looking over the book reviews to this book, all I see is readers comparing the two books. I did read Vampire Academy about a year ago and I did not like it. I never continued on with the series (yet) even though I have all the books. I liked this book WAY better than Vampire Academy. I can see the similarities, but there are tons of books that have similarities that I like both or one of the series. I donโ€™t think that the similarities should affect readerโ€™s opinions on whether they pick this series up or not. The writing is different and from what I hear, after book one, the series move in different directions.

Overall, I think that anyone and everyone would love this book. If you have read Armentrout in the past, you will love it. If you have not read Armentrout yet, you will love it. I am really excited to keep reading this story and see where it goes. I am also really excited to be able to read the spin-off series that Armentrout is currently writing that revolves around Seth and is NA!

    4 Stars, 0 spice YA

I had a good time reading this book. I liked the characters and the overall world building. It’s an easier read and was a fast one. If I hadn’t enjoyed it so much, I probably would have rated 3 stars for a few reasons. This book felt like a cross between Percy Jackson, and City of Bones. (I haven’t read Vampire Academy so I can’t compare but other reviews state it’s pretty close.)

The foreshadowing was VERY predictable. There was a ton of foreshadowing, but it was blatantly obvious: HEY THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN, foreshadowing. So, I felt spoiled rather than excited when said things happened. I will say this is the main thing that detracted from my rating. Otherwise, it’s probably a solid 4 to 4.5 stars for me.

Alex (Alexandria is our main character.) She’s funny, sassy, and relatable for a 17-year-old girl. There’s a love triangle (Aiden and Seth), training montage, challenges, history, angst and more. She’s a half blood ‘god’ I guess is what they are? Some Greek mythology is a big part of the books. She’s at a school for the half-bloods to train to be a guard/sentinel to kill the bad guys. The bad guys are daimons, which are essentially vampires. There’s A LOT more to the story but that’s the essentials without spoiling…. again, the book kind of does that for you. (Can you tell I’m upset about that LOL)

I was captivated by the book and finished in about two days. Probably would have been one day but I’ve been busy. I tend to rate on how much I enjoyed it, how quickly I read it (the faster I read means the more I liked it and was hooked), and then later down the line the flaws. I honestly don’t care if books are similar to others or even more YA, that doesn’t bother me as long as it’s not plagiarism or boring. I don’t need mega complicated plots and theories to keep me going. Those are fun occasionally but too many and I’m out (GRRM, and even SJM lately I’m looking at you lol).

If you want a quick read, palate cleanser for another genre or simply a nice story that’s not complicated pick this one up. It’s the first in a series and does include the novella prequel.
