Independent is right. My 9 years twins reading and speech is weak. So i started them on these word ladders. They are excellent with developing or maintaining vocabulary. The best part is they do it themselves with minimal help from me. No matter what the age start on the grade 1-2 because it gives more hints like add a vowel , the other grade levels don’t give as many hints. My kids are enjoying them, they even do them without me telling them. Who would not want that! Really enjoyed this

This is a good book that I am using at home with my 8 year old son. He is currently level 3c in English. In my opinion the book is leveled at year 4. The book is American and they use some American words such as nickel and dollar but otherwise it ready helps build up vocabulary. We try to do one or two a day but no more – to help the words sink in. My son enjoys these. I would recommend this book.

I bought these for my 2nd graders because some of them had finished the ones I had for grades 1-3. I was honest with them and told them they’d probably be difficult and take longer than they were used to because they’re intended for older grades, and they loved the challenge! I think I had 6 or 7 students that were ready for them and adored them. They would beg me for more!

Very few of the hints did not make sense, however it presents as a learning opportunity to think in a different direction than originally thought. I used this to keep my 3rd going to 4th grader sharp during the summer and am really glad I did. We did a new page 4 times a week and then I tested randomly on the words presented. We’ll probably finish the workbook this summer. Once my son got the hang of thinking critically on the context clues, it became 2nd nature to him. Now when we read books together and he doesn’t really recognize the word, he’ll review the text around to provide me a synonym, so he can move on with the story without losing the meaning. His reading comprehension scores are leveling him at the 7th grade level while being in 4th grade. Good investment.
